Chapter 9:

The Legendary Dragon “Tiamat”

I'm Basically The Strongest

The legendary dragon known as "Tiamat" was once a fearsome force to be reckoned with in ancient times. Tiamat was said to hail from the distant east, a creature of immense power and terror, whose very name sent shivers down the spines of those who dared to utter it.

Tiamat's legend spread far and wide, and countless stories told of its cataclysmic battles, where it would summon the elements themselves to unleash devastating storms, earthquakes, and tsunamis upon the land. It was believed that Tiamat could shift the very tides of the oceans and turn mountains into ash with its fiery breath. The legendary dragon's power was said to be unmatched, and entire kingdoms would tremble at the mere mention of its name.

However, as the ages passed, Tiamat's power waned, and it grew weary of the endless conflict. Seeking peace and solitude, the dragon embarked on a journey westward, eventually arriving at the library, where it hoped to find solace and redemption for its past deeds.

Now, stripped of its former might and hiding behind a mask, Tiamat had become the masked man seeking refuge within the library's mysterious confines. Though it retained the memories of its fearsome past, it now longed for understanding, acceptance, and the opportunity to shed its legendary status and find a new purpose amidst the library's secrets.

Tiamat, the legendary dragon, knelt humbly before Ryūken, the guardian of the library. Despite its imposing past and the immense power it once wielded, it now appeared as a subservient figure, its massive form gracefully lowered in a gesture of respect.

In the library's dimly lit chamber, Tiamat's masked visage gazed up at Ryūken, its eyes hidden behind the mask. It had witnessed the astounding capabilities of this being who had caught the blue fireball with ease, a feat that had left even Tiamat in awe.

In the depths of Tiamat's consciousness, a voice echoed with pride as it reminisced about the days of old.

"Ah, I am Tiamat, the legendary dragon," it boasted to itself. "Legends were spun around my name, and countless mortals quaked in fear at the mere mention of my presence. I was the embodiment of power and dominance, a force of nature."

But as Tiamat knelt before Ryūken, a different voice emerged within its thoughts, one laden with humility and awe.

"Yet, here I am, humbled by a mere mortal," it admitted to itself.

"This guardian possesses power beyond comprehension. He caught the blue fireball with ease, a feat that not even I could have imagined."

The conflicting voices within Tiamat's mind reflected the profound transformation it was undergoing, from a prideful entity to a being willing to seek guidance and redemption from someone it once considered beneath it.

"I must tread carefully," it thought to itself, a tremor of unease rippling through its being.

"I have witnessed the true extent of this guardian's powers. The consequences of crossing his path are beyond comprehension. I will do anything to avoid his wrath, for it is an enigma that I cannot afford to unravel."

The aura of Ryūken weighed heavily on Tiamat's mind, and the once-proud dragon was now all aware of the power dynamic between them.

As Ryūken observed the stranger, he couldn't help but wonder about the man's true identity. His mind raced with thoughts and questions, trying to piece together the mysterious puzzle before him.

"Who is this guy?" he pondered, his curiosity piqued.

"And what's with the blue ball thing? Is that some kind of norm around here?"

Ryūken, trying to break the awkward silence, cleared his throat and offered a polite greeting to the masked man, as if he were just a librarian dealing with another visitor.

"Uh, hey there," he said casually, "Welcome to the library. Is there something specific you're looking for?"

Tiamat, still shaken and ashamed of his earlier display, stuttered as he handed the book to Ryūken.

"Here's a b-b-book I c-c-cannot d-d-decipher," he managed to say, trying to regain his composure.

"Why am I stumbling over my words like this?" he thought to himself, frustration welling up. "I am Tiamat, a powerful and revered dragon. I should not be showing such weakness."

He berated himself for his inability to speak fluently. After all, he was Tiamat, a legendary dragon with a fearsome reputation. Stuttering in front of someone, especially a mere human like Ryūken, felt like a disgrace to the entire dragon race.

Ryūken looked at the book and then back at Tiamat. "Of course, I'll do my best to help you," he replied kindly, trying to put Tiamat at ease. "Let's take a look at it together."

Ryūken extended a welcoming hand and invited Tiamat inside the library to shelter him from the relentless rain. With a friendly smile, he motioned for Tiamat to follow him.

"Please, come in," Ryūken said, trying to put Tiamat at ease. "You can wait here while I take a look at the book you've brought."

Tiamat, still feeling a bit flustered, followed Ryūken inside and handed over the mysterious book. Ryūken carefully inspected the book's cover, curious about its contents and the reason why Tiamat had sought his help.

As Tiamat sat down and observed Ryūken's behavior while he inspected the book, he couldn't help but question the nature of the man before him. In his inner monologue, Tiamat's thoughts raced with uncertainty.

"Why would a mere librarian exhibit such power? Is he truly just a librarian?" Tiamat wondered, his thoughts filled with doubt. "And why is he so calm and collected while examining this book? Is there more to him than meets the eye?"

Tiamat couldn't shake off the feeling that there was something deeply about Ryūken, and he found himself growing increasingly curious about the man who had so effortlessly caught his blue fireball earlier.

As Ryūken inspected the book handed to him by Tiamat, his eyes widened with recognition. The manga in his hands was none other than "Ethereal Chronicles," a title that had been a staple in his once-boring life on Earth.

"'Ethereal Chronicles'... I used to read this novel to escape the monotony of my mundane life back on Earth,"

Ryūken thought, a faint smile playing on his lips.

"It was a world of adventure, magic, and endless possibilities. I never imagined I'd encounter something from that manga here in this world."

As he flipped through the pages, the memories of late-night readings and the excitement of each new chapter flooded back. Little did he know that this seemingly ordinary manga would play a part in unraveling the mysteries of the library and his own existence.

He smiled warmly at Tiamat and complimented him, saying,

"Your taste in literature is quite commendable." He then continued to inspect the book, immersing himself in the familiar world of "Ethereal Chronicles."

As Tiamat watched Ryuken's reaction to the book, a spark of hope ignited within him. Could this seemingly ordinary book hold the key to his regaining his lost powers and ascending once more to rule the heavens? His mind raced with possibilities, and he couldn't help but imagine the return of his glory.

"Could it be? After all these millennia of searching, have I finally stumbled upon the one thing that can restore my divine strength? The legends spoke of a golden book, a tome of unimaginable power, hidden away from the world of mortals. Could 'Ethereal Chronicles' be that very book?

"For centuries, I have wandered the realms, my powers diminished, my stature reduced to a mere shadow of my former self. The humiliation of being cast down from the heavens still haunts me. But this... this could change everything.

"If this book can indeed restore my might, then I shall once again rise to the heavens and claim my rightful place as the ruler of all. The gods who betrayed me will bow before me, and I shall rewrite the very fabric of existence. No longer will I be a fallen god; I shall become an eternal and unstoppable force.

"But I must proceed with caution. The librarian must not suspect the true nature of this book. I will need his trust and cooperation if I am to unlock its secrets. Once the power is in my grasp, I shall reveal my true identity and seize control of all creation.

"This library, this stranger, the unknown book... they are all pieces of a puzzle, and I am determined to solve it. The fate of the heavens and the mortal realms hangs in the balance, and I, Tiamat, shall be the architect of destiny itself."

As Tiamat contemplated these thoughts, he couldn't help but feel a renewed sense of purpose and anticipation for what lay ahead.

Ryuken's eyes gleamed with excitement as he continued to inspect the book. He couldn't contain his enthusiasm as he explained to Tiamat the sheer wonder of the novel's magical text.

Ryuken began with a wide grin. "This book is something truly extraordinary."

Tiamat's eyes widened as he observed Ryuken's boundless enthusiasm for the book. He couldn't help but smile, his thoughts racing with possibilities. In his inner monologue, he pondered:

"Could this book be the legendary relic I've been searching for all these millennia? Is it the key to restoring my lost powers and ascending once more to rule the heavens? The way the stranger describes it, the text is imbued with a unique magic, a magic that brings words to life and allows the reader to experience the story as if they were living it."

Tiamat's heart raced with excitement and anticipation. He had been in search of a means to regain his former glory for countless years, and this library had unexpectedly brought him to this remarkable discovery.

"But," Tiamat thought, his excitement tempered by caution, "I must not let my eagerness blind me to the potential risks. There's so much I don't know about this book or this library. The librarian seems genuine, but there may be more aspects to this than meets the eye."

Tiamat resolved to learn more. He would patiently await more information and take every necessary precaution to ensure that his newfound hope did not turn into a disaster.
