Chapter 1:

Do ya really not wanna die?

Do ya really not wanna die?

"Let me ask you something, do you really NOT wanna die?" the reaper asked.

"Why yes, I want to live, and that's why I'm doing this all to cheat you!" Nagi laughed.

There are two types of people in this world. Those ruled by Eros the goddess of life, and those ruled by Thanatos the god of death. I am the former. My name is Nagi Mizuhara, and I want to live. However, I know not how to continuously extend my lifespan, that was until I carefully analyzed the state of the world and realized something intriguing, the world is full of terrible people. Not just that, but said terrible people tend to live very long lives despite the atrocities they commit. In comparison, those that do little to no wrong tend to die off quicker. Therefore, I surmised that the key to extending my life is to commit so much wrong, that even the afterlife will reject me. The greatest wrong I could think of committing was murder.

As for my mass murder plan, I lured many to the top of the building where I'd play a suicidal maniac. The fools would come to try and save me, then I'd blindside them and launch them over the edge instead. But that's not all. If I saw a chance to get away with wrong doing whether it be shoplifting or an on the fly murder, I'd take it. Oh the innocents I've killed  and the misdeeds I've committed; all in exchange for extending my life.

                                                                           ...

After a successful day, killing innocents, Nagi turned to find a skeletal reaper standing on the roof.

"And what? Are you supposed to be my Thanatos? Well tough luck, I desire life, and therefore seek Eros," Nagi sneered.

"Indeed, I'm here to ask you if life is truly worth living for you," the reaper replied.

"Well duh, the answer is yes! I can't do all the stuff I'm doing now in the afterlife now can I?"

"True, but I am here as an act of mercy. You've killed far too many innocents for human society to forgive you. You've upended too many lives, all because you ironically reject death so much."

"Well lemme ask you this! Why don't you just kill all the bad apples instead of the good ones?"

The reaper paused, then sighed.

"All things must die eventually."

"Then I will be the first not to. Heck, why are you even bothering me? Shouldn't you be thanking me for sending so many innocent souls to hell?" Nagi asked.

"True, I do seek to drive souls to their deaths, yet it is as simple as a lion killing an antelope. You are a human attempting a genocide, all on the grand delusion that doing so will make you immortal."

"Exactly what I want."

The reaper shook his head and swung back his mighty scythe.

"Let me ask you something, do you really NOT wanna die?" the reaper asked.

"Why yes, I want to live, and that's why I'm doing this all to cheat you!" Nagi laughed.

"Cheat death you say?"

The reaper sheathed his scythe and grabbed Nagi by the neck.

"In that case, I'll break the rules and give you life, but I ask once more, for the last time, DO YA REALLY NOT WANNA DIE!?"

"I wanna outlive YOU!"

The reaper scoffed and hurled a shocked Nagi off the building. Nagi screamed in terror and anger as she plummeted to the concrete below.

*Crunch*

Nagi's vision blurred for a bit as everything ached. All her bones had been broken and she couldn't move, yet she was alive, embedded in the concrete. The reaper then flew down and stood atop Nagi.

"There, you are now incapable of dying, yet you will forever remain here embedded in the concrete, forced to gaze up at the masses that unknowingly trample over you, forced to gaze up at those falling to the release of death, and forced to wither in pain, knowing it will never stop, and that you can't even die. You had your chance, 3 times I pleaded, yet you scoffed and disrespected death at each passing moment. You viewed death merely as a tool for your own selfish means, now you will suffer a fate worse than death."

Nagi's eyes swirled around in anger, yet her broken bones prevented her from uttering a protest.

As the reaper foretold, people began walking over her like she truly was just a piece of concrete. Even when jackhammers pounded down from above, or cold snow obscured her view, Nagi remained in the state she had been in since she first fell, forever and ever, much to her despair.  Worst of all, many people fell to their death right on top of her. The smiles on these people drove Nagi mad.

"NO LET ME DIE! WHY MUST I SUFFER THIS PAINFUL HELL! THEY ALL DIE, AND THE PAIN ENDS. BUT ME? Me? Why can I not die!?" Nagi thought.

"Because you disrespected death, but also life as well. You are also ruled by Eros, therefore you get life. Well, I guess even you will perish when the very planet itself does, but that will take at least a billion years in your time," the reaper said as he visited Nagi a few thousand years later.

"A billion!? LIKE HELL I'M STAYING HERE FOR ANOTHER BILLION YEARS!"

"Perhaps you should have accepted my offer when you had the chance. Now you must wait until the end of the world for the end of your punishment. Then you shall die like everything does. I hope you can accept this."

Nagi could only glare back as she suffered in hell.

                                                                             [End]
