Chapter 30:

Soul destruction! (2/3)

Rebirth of the mighty overlord

ROOOOOAAAAAR!

The painful roar of the frost dragon resounded. Its entire left eye was completely gouged out, showing nothing but destroyed flesh. Cole observed the damage state of the frost dragon attentively.

Dragons all had extremely hard scales. Normally weapons and low-level magical attacks wouldn't even put a scratch on their scales. However, spirit weapons were different. They all carried the will and powers of each spirit.

While the body of dragon's were mostly covered in defensive scales that were even more durable than the best armors forge by human hands, there were places on the body of the dragon that was much weaker and more vulnerable. Their eyes and throat. Cole's eyes glinted coldly as he formulates various methods of approaching the frost dragon closely.

Blood slid down the length of his sword as he got into a stance. "U-Unforgivable! Human! You will suffer the worst death!" The frost dragon roared in fury!

Swoosh!

In one smooth motion, it spread its wings outwards, releasing a powerful windstorm of cold air. The powerful air current kicked up a cloud of dust which completely got frozen in frost and snow one moment after.

Sensing the immediate danger Cole leapt away, avoiding the cold air by a hair breadth! However, some of the others weren't so lucky.

"Ahhh! M-My arm!"

"Shit! The ice is spreading!"

"Curse this fucking dragon!"

Those from the dragon clan, sun clan and the royal knight who weren't able to move away in time were slowly turned to blocks of ice that shone splendidly beneath the radiance of the golden sun.

Cassidy's dome shaped barrier was also hit by the cold wind, but fortunately, the cold air did not penetrate her barrier.

Her onyx black eyes shone faintly as she observed the state of the battlefield. 'That frost dragon is going to be a problem.' She thought as she observed the white dragon that kept roaring in both pain and fury.

She then blew out a puff of smoke as her lips moves. "Cover the surrounding in your raging inferno! Burn all those who wish to do you harm, flaming vortex!"

A bright crimson magic formation appeared; the formation shone with a dazzling light as crimson flames shot from the center of the formation in a spiral shape!

The crimson flames burnt intensely as it made its way towards the frost dragon. However...

Whoosh!

Just as the attack was about to make contact with the frost dragon, a breath attack came from the red dragon! Promptly intercepting the trajectory of the crimson flames.

BOOOOOM!

Both attacks collided and exploded dramatically upon contact. Cassidy's eyes narrowed coldly at the red dragon who sneered at her, as though mocking her efforts.

"Do you think I will allow you to kill another one of my kin, human?" The red dragon said, despite being a flame dragon its voice was so cold it could easily freeze the north pole thousands of times over.

"Oh, are you ready to talk now?" Cassidy asked, however, despite her calm attitude she hadn't lowered her guard at all. Suddenly, the dome shaped barrier began to flicker slightly. 'No good, using so many high levels magic attacks while maintaining the barrier for so long is not easy.'

It wouldn't be long before the barrier disappears, that much was obvious. Upon noticing that the red dragon increased the density of its attacks.

Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang!

Fire breaths rained down in continuous succession causing the barrier to rumble fiercely.

"Tch, as if I'd let you!" Cassidy gritted her teeth as she transfers her magical energy inside the barrier. The barrier strengthens after receiving her magical energy. However, it was clear she couldn't maintain it for long. Sooner or later she would run out of magical energy.

...

Swoosh!

A cold breath was fired towards Cole. However, with indifference he calmly moved away from the range of the cold breath. The attack collided with the earth, freezing the soil beneath his feet.

The frost dragon gaze down at Cole with its right eye. "Give up, human! Your puny body is nothing compared to the body of a dragon!"

With a single flap of its giant wings the temperature began to plummet. A storm of frost and snow was raised obstructing his vision. With his vision obstructed it was impossible to tell from where the frost dragon would attack next. However, a dreadful feeling suddenly assaulted him as three beams of icy breath came flying through the frost and snow. There trajectory locked towards him!

'Shit.' Cole moved around nimbly, dodging each icy breath that targeted him. However, while he was running around evading the breath attacks, he was gradually closing the distance between them.

Sensing that the frost dragon narrowed its right eye dangerously, before slashing with its sharp claws. However, Cole deflected its claws using his sword. And while twisting his body 90-degrees Cole moved around to its rear, slashing at its tail.

Tink!

'Tch, it's no good, that damned tail is just too hard.' The blade of his sword only manages to cut a few meters inside the tail before stopping. "As I said before, your inferior physical bodies are nothing compared with that of a dragon! Why don't you save yourself the trouble and go die already!" From its mouth it fired a breath of cold air. Cole promptly ducked and moved away from that spot. And while approaching the front of the dragon.

"Haaah!" Cole leapt high into the air and while taking advantage of the downwards momentum of his fall he swung his sword vertically downwards! Spiritual energy surged on the blade of his sword. He aimed his attack precisely towards the neck of the frost dragon attempting to decapitate it quickly.

However, the frost dragon predicted Cole's movement and slash with its claws. The blade of Cole's sword and the claws of the frost dragon collided, creating the sound of metal as Cole's body was pushed back and sent flying.

However, Cole had already predicted this outcome as his expression remained indifferent. The frost dragon swung its claws towards his head.

While being midair Cole was naturally unable to move with complete freedom. However, he didn't panic instead he gathered his spiritual energy inside the blade of his sword. The blade of his sword lit up with a faint radiance as he watches the frost dragon approaching figure.

Whoosh!

Soon, the claws of the frost dragon collided with the blade of Cole's sword!

BOOOOM!

A tremendous shockwave erupted with Cole and the frost dragon as its core. Cole frowned as his sword rebounded against the frost dragon's draconic skin. "As I thought the only way to damage this thing is either its head or its neck." With that in mind Cole kicked the face of the frost dragon and leapt back.

The frost dragon flapped its wings! Pursuing Cole's figure that kept getting more distant in its gaze.

Swoosh!

[Hey, old man now is your chance!] The spirit sword said.

At the same time Cole twisted his body midair. A powerful spiritual energy surrounded the movement of his body as he spun. Just as the frost dragon closed the distance and was about to open its maw to swallow him whole. Cole held his blade in a backwards grip and thrust the blade of his sword downwards vigorously, subsequently piercing the head of the frost dragon.

ROOOOOAAAAR!

A roar filled with agony echoed before it gradually became weaker. Soon, the large body of the frost dragon fell heavily to the ground with a thud.

A few seconds later Cole stood on top of the body of his fallen enemy. His sword was still pierced deep into the head of the defeated dragon. "... I'm getting too old for this Shit." He mumbled weakly to himself.

Under normal times killing a sub-dragon would be simple but this type of dragon was especially troublesome to deal with.

The frost dragon could manipulate cold air and a single flap of its giant wings could create whirlwind. Not to mention its draconic skin was quite resilient to weapons such as sword, daggers and even magic wasn't quite effective against it.

Dragons really were a troublesome species to kill. After taking a deep breath Cole yank his blade out of the head of the frost dragon and quickly searched for his next target.

ROOOOAAAAAR!

ROOOOAAAAR!

ROOOOOAAAAR!

The dragons in the surroundings roared in fury upon seeing the dead body of their own allies. Their roars reverberated through the surroundings stinging the ear of those from the sun clan, dragon clan, and the royal knights currently fighting on the battlefield.

Cassidy's expression grew stern as she noticed the red dragon's body was gradually beginning to heat up.

Its body was covered in smoke as it's red scales gradually started to turn an even lighter shade of red. All of its injuries also started to heal at an absurd speed.

ROOOOAAAAR!

"You! Killing my son wasn't enough for you! You also killed my friends as well! Every one of you humans, if death is what you seek then I shall send each and every one of you to hell!"

Swoosh!

The red dragon flapped its giant wings and ascended high into the sky! Cassidy broke out into cold sweats as the temperature began to rise. "Tch, I have a bad feeling." Cassidy quickly extended her hands outwards and was about to used all of her remaining magical energy but. 'It's not enough.' She quickly deduced.

"Mages used defensive type spells and block that attack even if you have to use up all your remaining mana!" Cassidy bellowed. Hearing that the mages all glanced at each other before using their spells.

"Wind shield!"

"Earth shield!"

"Fire wall!"

"Electric cage!"

"Water prison!"

One by one multiple magic formation appeared as defensive shields appeared in the surroundings. However, the red dragon gazed down indifferently and slowly opened up its maw. From within its jaws flames of annihilation appeared. Furthermore, the red dragon created six meteors that orbits its body as though it was their planet. "This is magic.... Just how old is this dragon it can even use magic." Cassidy doubted her eyes.

Cole who had just decapitated a lesser dragon sighed; he wasn't surprised the red dragon could use magic. He had a lot of experience dealing with dragons after all. The older the dragon the more powerful they are. Dragon that could talk could also use magical energy; in fact, the magical energy of a dragon was far stronger than that of a human. Even if the dragon's here weren't true dragon's they were still formidable. Cassidy clicked her tongue.

"Oh, holy mother of the light protects your children from all adversaries. Become an impenetrable shield that blocks all that wish to do harm. Mothers embrace!"

As soon as the spell was finished the illusionary image of a beautiful maiden appeared behind Cassidy. The woman was so large that even the dragon's look tiny in comparison. The woman used her body as a shield to protect those on the battlefield.

ROOOOOAAAAAR!

The red dragon released its breath attack towards the battlefield, while the meteors all descended at once, causing the atmosphere to shudder fiercely under their fall! The remaining dragons also fired their breaths towards the battlefield.

BOOOOOM!

The figure of the heavenly maiden was swallowed up and engulf in crimson flames and frozen breaths!

...

Meanwhile, back inside the dragon clan...

Alan and Trisa both made their way towards his mother's room. Upon entering they were immediately greeted with the sight of Amelia drinking tea with a troubled expression.

"Alan!" Amelia promptly hugged Alan as her previously gloomy expression instantly brighten up. "Ugh, mom I'm not a kid, you know." He complained as his face was pressed between the soft mountain of Amelia's chest.

[... Technically, you are.] Akane corrected.

As usual he chose to ignore her. "Mother, can you tell what's going on, why did grandpa leave?" Alan asked, despite already knowing the answer.

Amelia reluctantly released Alan from her embrace and stepped away before explaining gloomily.

"This morning, an army of dragon's suddenly appeared in droves and launched an attack. As for what reason they attack unfortunately, we have no clue an investigation has yet to be made. But members of the sun clan, dragon clan and the royal knights were sent to battle."

"Eh, the sun clan and the royal knights too." Alan widens his eyes in surprise he thought it was just the dragon clan.

[Yeah, I forgot to mention I sensed some other figure there too. I thought they were all insignificant and not worth mentioning, my bad.]

'You... Sigh. Forget it.' Alan shook his head. "We were all ordered by the king to stay inside our home until the battle has ended so, please do not go off on your own." She cupped Alan's face with her hand as she said that.

"Y-Yes. Understood." Alan replied weakly, sensing the forcefulness behind her tone.

After seeing Alan nodded his head Amelia glanced at both Trisa and Suzu indicating that they both should keep an eye on him. Trisa and Suzu both nodded in understanding.

"As much as I would love to stay with you, I have some unfinished paperwork to take care of." Amelia kissed Alan's forehead and left. The door closed with a soft sound. Alan was left alone with Trisa and Suzu.

"So, young master what would you like to do in our free time?" Trisa asked with a faint smile. "Yes, we can play as long as it's within the estate of the dragon clan." Suzu replied. After thinking for a while Alan made a slightly awkward expression before adding. "Would it be okay for me to use the bathroom first!"

Both Trisa and Suzu looked at the other before nodding, "Of course."

...

Five minutes later...

Alan now stood before a mirror that showed his reflection.

"Akane, can you use imitate?" He asked.

[Are you sure? Using that technique is going to cost you a lot of spiritual energy, you know? You don't even have fifty percent of what you had in your previous life.]

"It's fine. Just do it already!"

[Ugh, fine.]

Soon, Alan's body was covered by a faint light until the bright light gradually receded. From deep within his soul a speck of white light left his body and carefully took shape. In less than a second another Alan stood before the real Alan.

[.... There you go. Just know that I can't maintain it for long, so you have to kill those dragons quickly before time runs out.] Akane warns.

However, Alan's lips curved upwards as he spoke.

"A piece of cake."
