Chapter 57:

S-class meeting

Hacker Class

"The S-class Sbusiso Khumalo?" Alden felt surprise flow through him.

"Yes, I hope I'm not disturbing you?"

"Of course not!" Alden said. "What could possibly make you call me?"

"Don't try to be humble. You're now an S-class ranger yourself."

"Oh, I'm not used to the feeling of it yet."

The ranger chuckled.

"hahaha, Of course it might take some time before you get used it. Well you will eventually. Well, let me not waste your time and tell you what I called you for."

"Of course. I'm listening."

"Since you've officially become a new S-ranked ranger, there's a lot of procedures that need to be undertaken. Not paperwork, you've probably done that already. These procedures are more on the monetary side."

"Monetary?"

"Yes. I don't know if you've been told yet, but newly awakened S-class Rangers recieve a starting payment. And for you, the amount granted to you by the association for every month will significantly increase."

Alden swallowed spit to moisten his drug throat. Slowly, he asked.

" May I ask how much this increase is? "

" Firstly, for the starting bonus, you'll receive a total amount of R20 million. Thereafter, you will receive R2 million every month."

Aldens heart skipped, he was stunned into silence by the head of Rangers reply.

" In fact, we've just sent the amount to your account." the chairman said.

Right on cue, a notification made Aldens phone tremble. He took a look at the screen, and he was overwhelmed with joy.

"Oh, and remember, you can recieve more of such bonuses if you stay within the association."

Instantly, Alden caught on. This was the heads attempt at recruiting him. He probably wanted to lure Alden into joining the association, thereby increasing their power and influence. Alden knew he'd recieve many similar offers from guilds, which was why he wanted to announce his intention of establishing a guild early. That meant he had to reject the head.

"I'm deeply sorry Mr Khumalo, but I will have to think about it."

"Very well. Take your time then. There is is however, one more thing."

"I'm all ears, chairman."

"There is going to be a meeting for S-classes tomorrow night, and I wished to invite you. You can bring a partner along if you wish. This will be the perfect opportunity for you to familiarize yourself with other S-class Rangers."

"So, will all of South Africa heroes be there?"

"Yes."

Light McKing would be there, then. So would Sarah Foster, but she didn't matter. Not as much as him.

It wasn't time to crush him, but after a little wait the time would come. But it would be good to meet the bastard.

"Send me location."

~~~
"So, we'll go collect your Ranger's license today," Alden said to Blake.
"Already?" Blake was understandably surprised.
"Yeah, I made arrangements while I was there. It won't cost much too."
"When are we officially establishing the guild?" Lily asked.
"Tomorrow we'll announce it, and next week we'll officially set it up."
"Announce it? Where's the need for that?"
Alden smiled.
"I've been invited to an S-class ceremony. You'll be coming as the as my plus one. I'll announce that I'm joining your guild, boosting the guilds popularity."
"We'll have to get ourselves a place, and resources. Also, when will our first dungeon mission be?"
"After I finish my monthly mission with the association and we set up the guild, we will have to gain a few members. We've got to be selective with who we choose, however."
Lily nodded understandingly.
"Then this event, it's tomorrow, right?"
Alden nodded.
"I'll be there." she answered.
Alden watched her for a few seconds before speaking to her. She seemed to want to say something, but she was hesitating.
"What do you want to say to me?"
She looked up at him, her eyes wide with surprise. She thereafter looked at her fidgeting fingers and spoke.
"Ever since I'd met you. You... You've always been hiding something. Your true powers, you hid it. I witnessed a portion of it but after you've made it this far as an awakened, I am dying to know what the secret is..."
Alden glanced at Blake Foster, who seemed to listen to her words in interest. Alden sighed. Could he speak in front of the old guy? Should he even tell her the truth? He didn't know, but if they were going to work together to achieve so many goals, like running the guild, avenging her siblings and finding out the story behind her parents. He couldn't hide from he then, they needed to trust each other.
"After I return from my mission, I'll take you somewhere. I won't just tell you, I'll show it to you. So be patient."
That assurance was enough to make Lily nod in understanding, deep in her eyes, Alden could see that she would patiently wait until he was ready.
He was fine with that.
~~~

" Sir, are you ready to go to the S-class meeting?" A female assistant politely asked Light McKing. She stood next to a room door in the corridor. Before her, was none other than Light McKing.

"Yes. Where is my father?" He asked, a green suit atop his fit body. An expression of pure, unbridled rage sat atop his face.

"He is busy, young sir," the woman replied. Within her eyes, there was no sign of fear or insecurity. She seemed calm, and confident.

"I need to speak to him, let me in," Light said, walking towards the door.

"The chairman will speak to you, only when appropriate." She said, stepping inbetwe

"I wasn't asking," He narrowed his eyes, and energy began to whirl around his body.

Unpeturbed, the woman simply gazed at him with uninterested eyes.

Suddenly, the door opened. Out walked a tall and muscular figure. Long green hair fell to his shoulders, and a neat beard, black in color, grew from his jaw. An intimidating aura sat around him, and it would intimidate most S-class Rangers.

"Is there something of the matter here?"

The appearance froze Light where he stood. He felt a shiver through his body, as he heard the voice of the man he most feared.

He clenched his jaw, steeling himself.

"Where is she!?"

"Where is who?" His father asked, an expression of ignorance coming over his face.

"Don't mock me... You know who I'm talking about! Where. is. she."

"Taken care of." was the brief reply.

"No, you didn't..." An angry storm of energy began circling around Light, and instantly, the walls of the building began to crack. The ground beneath him broke into a puzzle of pieces, and gusts of powerful winds formed from his sheer power. "How dare you!"

He tore through the air, his fist aimed at the man's face. He held back nothing, and because of that, the entire venue was getting destroyed.

After his fist made contact, a gigantic sonic boom formed, causing the building to cave in. Smoke filled the vicinity, and the thunderous sound of the building collapsing filled the air.

Slowly, the smoke cleared. As soon as it had gone, Light McKing came into view. An expression of helpless anger sat upon his face, as he glared at the man before him. A single finger was outstretched, holding back Lights fist. There was no sign of dirt or wear upon his father, let alone a bruise. He just stood there, unmoving, unhurt.

"You even dared to raise your hand against me?" He asked, his words slow and careful. He dropped his hand, before it blurred, smashing into his son."It seems I'll need to discipline you."

Light flew through walls and rocks, until he landed in a pit. The house was situated on the side of a cliff, and he's flown out of the houses boundaries.

"Our family cannot be distracted by anything materialistic. Be it wealth, fame..."

He appeared before the crater and picked up light, his hand grabbing the front of his shirt.

"Or women."

BOOM!

He slammed him into the ground, forming a large crater.

"You thought you, the future head of the Mcking family could be distracted by a woman? Now, I want you to listen, and listen close."

He lifted up McKing by the collar.

"If something like this happens again. I will make you regret it."

He slammed light McKing into the ground, before turning around.

"Anne."

The assistant from earlier instantly appeared at his side.

"Get him a healer. He should be ready for the Rangers meeting."

"Yes, chairman."

~~~
A cloak of darkness spread over the world, and upon it, were a thousand glimmering crystals. A sweet melody could be heard as a gentle breeze blew throughout the land, so that it made leaves whistle.
Under the starry sky, flying through the breeze was a small, black car. Within it, was a man with long hair freshly trimmed, and neatened facial hair. His eyebrows were sharp, as were his facial features. His almond skin glimmered as light reflected off of it, and his dark eyes studied the road before him.
A sigh escaped his lips.
"Feeling nervous?" A woman sitting alongside him asked. She wore a suit, just like her companion, and her most prominent features were her green eyes. Surprisingly, one never noticed them until they spent more time around her, since they could be mistaken for black. But once seen, they were unforgettable.
Alden nodded in reply.
"Well, understandable." She murmured.
Alden drove on in silence, soon, he reached the venue.
After finding himself a parking spot, he jumped out of the car. Both him and Lily went over to the buildings entrance. As he was going up to the entrance, he heard someone call his name.
"Alden Hall."
He turned around, to see a familiar face. His eyes widened with surprise.
"Oh, captain Sarah Foster."
