Chapter 1:

Rebirth into the Light of Night

Rebirth in the Shiny Night

From the top of this building, Thanar watched the city spread out before his eyes. The night breeze caressed his face as he clung to the railing. Every time he looked into the abyss, he felt Thanatos, the god of death, whispering convincingly in his ear.
“Life is a sigh, Thanar. Why prolong the inevitable? Is there anything that makes you take a step back? »
But somehow, Thanar always found a reason to look back. Perhaps it was a survival instinct, perhaps a ray of hope buried deep within him. However, each attempt left an uneasy feeling in his mind, like the persistent echo of a gloomy melody.
One day, when his thoughts were hovering on the edge of the abyss, a gentle, almost melodious voice spoke to him.
"Why are you doing this?" That was when he met Elysia. There she was, on the same roof, sitting and eating instant soup, looking at the horizon as if searching for answers to the same questions.
Thanar shrugged, his eyes reflecting the shadow that resided in his soul. "Sometimes life seems like too much of a burden. Don't you think?" Elysia said as she smiled. “I find it…”
Elysia smiled, with bright eyes. “I find it fascinating. Full of possibilities and surprises. You just need to know where to find them. »
Thanar sat next to her, captivated by a curiosity that made him want more answers.
"I get it. You look… quite happy. I guess something good has happened to you? »
"Hmmm... I can't think of anything particularly good. I have my favorite soup, a great place to see our wonderful city... and I think I'm going to make a new friend."
For the first time, Thanar felt a new connection. A non-Thanatos connection. After a light laugh, he and his new friend looked towards the horizon.
“Yes, the view is truly magnificent.”
As their conversations became more frequent, something changed in Thanar. Elysia radiated an energy that challenged the darkness that surrounded her. A constant challenge between the worthy of life and Death. Together they explored the philosophical questions that haunted them, and bonded in a fateful landscape. Time passed and Thanar found in Elysia a reason to live. It was not about avoiding death but embracing the life they could n build together. They became a couple, and each day the shadow that haunted Thanar receded.
At the same time, they went to different places in their city. "What if we go to the circus? I will pay. " "Listen, a play, at the theater, sounds like fun, don't you think? ""Can we go see a movie? Please." Elysia preferred more casual outings, while Thanar liked to see her happy.
However, upon returning home, Thanar once again felt pressured by Thanatos. “No one will see you now, it's time.” Thanar just found one way to avoid it: He was always accompanied by an old friend, nicotine. Despite the happy moments shared with Elysia, cigarettes still left their mark in Thanar's lungs. When they were not together, he was once again tormented by Thanatos and his thoughts, using cigarretes as a means to escape from Thanatos Will.
Over the years, the relationship between Thanar and his two companions grew closer. Trying to keep it a secret, Thanar often endured his cough so as not to worry his people. He smoked behind her back so as not to scare her. He always had mints to cover the smell.
Unfortunately, respiratory and cardiovascular problems were now his reality, a cruel irony in the new chapter he discovered with Elysia.
The need for a transplant becameinevitable. Thanar feared that the shadow would weigh heavily on Elysia's life, so he decided to face the musicin silence. He didn't want to see the fear in her eyes or feel his love fading in a fog of worry.
The surgery was successful and Thanar woke up in the hospital room with a new life. But hearing those words from the other side of his bedroom door. "The donor will be happy to know everything went well. She asked us not to tell him, but... she wants to give him everything he would need." Hearing that, sadness quickly turned into joy. Now he could spend time with Elysia and give up his addiction. As he left the hospital, he remembered his first conversation with Elysia. It was dark and they continued talking.
“What made me like this… good question, big guy. When I was young, my father was an alcoholic. And... you know what usually happens. My mother attacked me and my brothers. My brothers always thought it was my fault... Many years later, my father passed away from a coma... Before he died, he said something that was an eye-opener: . “Life will always be difficult. We cannot be the family you deserve, let alone the family you need. You have to find a way to be happy... if you don't want to end up like us. That's when I understood what I had to do. » That was the only time Thanar had seenher cry. however,it wasn't because she was sad, she looked happy as her tears fell into the abyss from that roof.
“With everything she's been through…I'm grateful to still be alive” he thought.
The days passed and Elysia's absence became more and more apparent. Unanswered calls and unsuccessful searches of his home made him increasingly upset. One day, he instinctively returned to the roof where their lives had gotintertwined. Thattime he woulddefinitely visit Thanatos.
As he climbed onto the roof, he remembered how their conversation continued.
“It's ironic…I don't want to brag, but my life has never been that painful. Parents love their children Although mine were a bit picky. They always demanded excellence from me and when I achieved it they would ask me "it's just what you're capable of".
I always have to follow their rules when they don't follow any rules... More times they make me walk than times I do it on purpose or due to lack of attention... Is there anything that... unpleasant..."
Already at the top, with the moonlight reflecting in his teary eyes, he stood on the edge of the abyss. "These years have kept me waiting, Thanar. Please join me."
As he took the final step, he felt a warm breeze coming from behind him. Around him, he could see a few pink cherry blossoms, illuminated by the clear night.
Turning around, his eyes widened as he caught sight of a piece of paper flying towards him.
“If you are reading this, it means you are saved. If you're wondering where I'm at, it's not to brag, I'm doing it out of love so you can move forward. Our time together was a gift that I will always cherish. Live, Thanar, and be happy. Follow me. For you. For us." When he turned back to look at the flower petals, they formed a familiar silhouette, seemingly looking at him with optimistic, loving eyes, bidding him goodbye.
Tears mixed with the rain that had begun to fall as Thanar kissed the paper. Elysia's gift is not only a new heart but also a lesson about the true meaning of life and sacrifice.
Instead of wallowing in sadness, Thanar chose to honor Elysia's memory. He stuffed the note in his pocket, a tangible reminder of their love. He decided to live, not only for himself but also for her, bringing with him beautiful memories of the days living together on that roof, where despair found hope. So Thanar stepped forward, carrying Elysia's gift of life and generosity. With every step, he felther presence, an ethereal force that lead him to a future where the darkness would fade and the sun of life shine brighter than ever.
