Chapter 6:

City Outskirts

My Other Half

It felt like a stab into his heart. This couldn't be true. How? Why? NO! Ivaylo swallowed his pride and fell to his knees begging his Boss. The Chairman didn't even move. "My decision is final... now LEAVE!" With his head pointing to the ground he packed his belongings from the office and left.

At home, he lay on the bed, his hands wide from his body looking with an empty gaze towards the ceiling. Nothing makes sense. How could this happen? He knew that humans are pure evil. He avoided them, not even wronged them so why?

A notification email interrupted his hopelessness. He slightly turned his head and grabbed the phone which lay next to him. The location and role of his new job were revealed. The stupid outskirts is like a one-hour drive from his place one and a half maximal two during traffic jams. He threw the phone back on the bed.

It will be a hassle for him but he needs to come to terms with it. His only hope for now is to hope and believe that the truth will be revealed and he will get his job back. Technically his chances looked bad because of his outburst and also well-known opinions. But the hope dies last...

A new ping echoed in the bedroom. It was a message from his mother. The mixer will take place on Saturday at a specific time and place. He couldn't believe it. With an ironic chuckle, he placed his phone on his chest and covered his face with his palm. It will be on the same outskirts as his new job. Fate was laughing into his face.

On a chilly Saturday afternoon, he was walking the streets of the outskirts. The summer was long gone and he needed an extra layer to not get sick. Damn human genetics. Why am I so hairless? Ivaylo huddled up in his clothes. A lot of humans were walking all around him. I have to get used to this horrible place. This is HELL! He thought to himself.

"LOOK! A new pretty boy face!" Ivaylo got spun by some random stranger hybrid. "Aren't you a haaandsome one?!" Bear-core Beastmen began to annoy Ivaylo. From time to time it happened to him. Well, it didn't for a long time, but still... He will teach them a lesson very fast.

One of the bear guys reached out to pat him on the head. He grabbed it, twisted it, and spun him around looking straight into the eyes of the others. "DON'T touch me!" The others backed off. They didn't expect him to be this strong and skillful for a Half-blood. That thug gang was notorious in this part of the city. They loved to pick on Half-bloods and Humans.

Ivaylo pushed the leader to the ground and was on his merry way to the bar where the mixer should take place. In front of the building stood a sign. "Humans are welcome!" He couldn't believe his eyes. Ivaylo really dreaded entering.

He took a deep breath and went straight inside. An animal type of a Beastman stood behind the bar polishing a glass. Ivaylo said his hello and the owner nodded. A mix of Beastmen and Humans sat at the bar. Ivaylo rolled his eyes and found the guy who organized the mixer. The bar owner saw it and narrowed his eyes at him as he passed by.

The organizer was sitting there with another one. Both of them were hybrids. Later one animalistic and a half-blood joined them. The ladies on the other hand took their time to come. Ivaylo bored leaned on his left arm and stared into his glass. Occasionally taking a peek at his surroundings and glaring at the human customers.

The owner noticed it and was cautious about Ivaylo. He didn't want him to cause any trouble. From time to time, came in Beastmen like Ivaylo to stir problems because of the human customers.

Ivaylo needed to use the bathroom and stood up walking around the bar. The Doberman owner cut his way. "I warn you to not cause any disturbance in my bar! I saw how you look at my human customers. I know your type. You Beastmen should finally get over your egos!"

Ivaylo was disgusted. How dare he reprimand him? Despite him being an animalistic Beastman with a bigger size difference, Ivaylo was positive he could beat him with ease if needed. In the past, he spared with bigger and stronger animalistic Beastmen.

"Are you trying to control my thoughts?! I can think whatever I want and have any opinion I desire, even when they don't match with yours..." Ivaylo pushed past him and shut the door behind him with a loud thud. Everybody inside turned it.

When Ivaylo returned the Beastwomen were already present at his table. Two animalistic one half-blood and two hybrids came. They all were quite pretty but didn't really catch Ivaylo's fancy. He even didn't know what he should search for in a woman.

He loved his freedom, job, and alcohol... Of course, the females were into him right away. He was the most handsome one of the other four, hell, I guess even from the whole bar.

Ivaylo sat down and took the drink into his hand. The organizer leaned into him. "Don't take it personally. The bar owner is in reality a nice guy, who just looks out for his customers, no matter the species. He is in kind of debt to a human. A girl helped him to keep this bar alive when he got both legs broken a year ago. He said they were childhood friends..."

In disbelief, Ivaylo looked at the organizer and then at the Doberman man at the bar socializing with some customers. Should he believe that fairytale? A human helping a Beastman and specifically an Animal type? Bullshit! Someone made that up for sure. Ivaylo bottled up the drink and ordered more.

The boring night continued... In the end, he was mentally drained and wanted to just go home. He called a cab and left the ladies in the dust. He had no intention to meet them ever again to their disappointment.

He somehow survived the weekend and then Monday early morning sat in his car and drove to his new job. The parking was a little bit far from the building. "Great!" He just arrived at the outskirts and he was already annoyed and he didn't even get near the building where the new job awaited him.

Suddenly a very pleasant smell infiltrated his nostrils shifting his attention and mood. It was a female scent. He blushed and did something that he hadn't done since his teen years... He wagged his tail. Quickly he grabbed it, so nobody would notice. What was that scent? Ivaylo looked around but couldn't find the source. A mix of different Beastmen types and Humans walked all around him. Snap!

His mood improved from that. He didn't expect it and was surprised by that. Maybe he did need someone next to him, just he didn't have the chance to meet the right Beastperson? Maybe he will meet her in the near future.

He smiled to himself and then began to walk to his new job.
