Chapter 14:

O5: Demon King and Idyllic Country Life

This Elf Became a Trucker to Return to her World

Yara and I have obtained a house! That being said, we are "renting" the house, whatever that means. Yara has avoided telling me the town name for some reason, and since I can't read any of the signs, Ihave no idea where we are. Regardless, we managed to get a small house to serve as our base of operations here in the countryside. It was much nicer here than in the city, none of those loud machina making so much noise, and none of those giant buildings that make my neck hurt to look up at. Note to self, I should destroy a few floors of my castle when I get back so that I can ensure it isn't too tall...

Regardless, Yara and I are now living together as wives! Er... Wife and King! I've been getting more used to my body as well, even if my magic hasn't returned yet. We haven't heard anything back from those goddesses either... Still, that brings us to today.

"Yara! Let's go shopping!"

Yara looked up from her rectangle and stared me in the eyes. "Why?"

"I want a table we can eat at. We always eat sitting on the couch, and I think that seems beneath our status. I'm the demon king, after all. And You are my queen! We should have a table worthy of such titles!"

"Yes, because royalty should eat take out at a table instead of watching TV."

"Precisely! I know you have been swayed by the pretty pictures and sounds of the magic light box, but you must not let them overwrite your sense of self! We need a table!”

“Do you hear the words that come out of your mouth? Fine, we’ll get a table. But we are getting a cheap one. I can’t get a job without a computer and I don’t think you can work either, so we need to conserve our savings.”

“Right!” Persuasion check successful! Now I can finally achieve my true goal.

We were being watched.

I noticed it some after we arrived in this town, but there seem to be more eyes on us than normal. Sure, we were two cuties coming up to a small town and renting a house, but it wasn’t that kind of look. I sensed malice.

Hmm? It’s vain to call myself cute? Nonsense! This is Ceatha‘s body, so if she’s cute then I’m cute as well!

Still, a trip to a market should draw out the enemy. If I could at least catch a glimpse of their face...

“So, what are we waiting for!” I grabbed the purse on the end table and quickly went to head out.

“Hold on! Geez, you’re so impatient. You don’t even know where we are going.”

“Eh? But the store we buy food at sells furniture too, right? The supermarket or whatever. It’s wild that they have shops here that are as big as a wing of my castle back home! Well, the bottom floor of a wing at least.”

“Just how big was your castle? This must be quite the downgrade.”

“It doesn’t matter that much. I haven’t been in most of the rooms in my castle anyways. I really only visited my room, the rooms of my wives, and the dining hall.”

“Your wives, huh...”

“Speaking of visiting their rooms, we haven’t consummated our marriage yet, have we?”

“Oh I uh...” Yara’s face seemed to redden a bit. Was she embarrassed? “Anyway let’s go furniture shopping!”

“Hey now...” Well I guess that is something I need to address later. For now, the enemy...

It was a short walk to the store, maybe 15 minutes? And about 7 minutes into the walk I saw their shadow. Whoever this mystery follower was, they were trained well in what they were doing. That’s why I had a plan.

“Here we are!” I quickly walked in through the doors which opened automagically. Machina in this world are super advanced in more ways that just the trucks and light rectangles! For instance, it’s thanks to machina that the door opened, no runes or anything! The inside and outside of the building are also lit up day and night with this same power! Imagine if we had this technology back in my castle! I could have... uh... stayed up all night? Oh, I did that anyway sometimes. Hmm...
Regardless, the store was massive. If we compared this super market with a regular one, that would make my castle be like... a super mansion!

"Oh hey! look at that!" I ran off towards something that caught my eye.

"Hey, you can't just leave me like this!" Yara begrudgingly ran after me.

Now, you may think that I was being easily distracted, which I was. But that wasn't the only case.

I had to lure our follower into the store. Once I got a good look at him, I could begin to go on the offensive.

Hunting humans who try to assassinate me... that might as well have been my part time job when I was the Demon King. It felt almost nostalgic...

Wait a minute! I still am the Demon King!

I quickly went from aisle to aisle, moving further from the furniture section as Yara got more frustrated with me. I was heading for a specific part of the store. The medicinal section! Not only did they have lots of things that I could easily use to counter attack, they also had those television boxes hanging everywhere! And these were special boxes that reflected back what they were looking at like mirrors! Which meant that...

Bingo!

An old human man wearing a black robe and a cloak... He was only there for a fraction of a second before he figured out what I was doing. But now that I had caught sight of him... oh!

Now that I had caught sight of Him!

It wasn't even going to be a contest anymore.

"Yara, you stay here!"

"W-what are you? Wait!"

I quickly cast invis and ran as fast as I could after the guy. He seemed to realize I had spotted him, as he was fleeing fast! Damn fast for an old guy! But it wouldn't be long now, I was closing in fast.
Even as we made it into the open, he was no match for me as we ran. I would close in within the minute! Gah! If only I knew that light form technique thingy Ceatha always used, I could have had him already!
The man ran into a building, probably trying to hide from me. It was a fairly small but ornate building with a bell tower. This was probably my first time seeing that kind of bell in this world. Was this a watch tower of some kind? Weird that they would put it in the middle of the city.

"Alright, it's time that I met this bastard face-to-face."

I stepped into the building.

Little did I know just how big of a mistake that would be.
