Chapter 2:

A Gorgon and a boy

ASTERIA'S TALES

The next days passed pretty quickly, where the new routine for Petra barely change with one exception. An exception she anxiously waited every day since she first talked with Yun. For the first time in her life, she had something to anxiously wait to happen. It was new and exciting for her.

This is fun, she said to herself while waiting in the same spot he met him for the first time. Even if she was doing nothing, it was fun for her. The chats she had with him would vary from asking him about his day or routine to simply talk about her discoveries.

"There was this time when I found a baby dragon in his nest" she explained to Yun once "He also run to the outside of his cave to go on adventure, but I managed to sent him back home safely before his mother returned"

She also enjoyed the boy's tales about his life, despite him considering them boring and mundane in comparison to hers.

"I just don't think that a chat about the prices in the market are as exciting as any of your stories" he claimed once.

"I don't care. I've had enough excitement in a whole lifetime. I can use a bit of calm and relaxation"

"You sound like an old man, Petra. Just like my grandpa"

"How dare you say that to a lovely maiden such as myself!" she jokely replied while making an overdramatic pose.

"Deepest apologies to you, milady. I just thought you could whistand the brutal honesty of this, your humble visitor" the young man replied while making an exaggerated bow.

They both burst into laughter.

This is fun, the Gorgon thought once agian. What they had is was others called friends? It sure was nice.

"Yun, don't you have some friends?"

"I have you now"

"I'm a Gorgon, you know"

"So? I don't care. Humans, Demi-Humans... We're all the same to me"

"That's because you can't see me"

"I can't see your physical form, but your soul is all over the world to me"

Like taken aback by some instict reaction, Petra inmediately cover herself, feeling naked all of the sudden.

"Don't say it like that!", she shouted.

"What's the fuss all about?"

"I don't like it! I feel like you're violating my privacy or seeing me nude or something"

"Your soul now tells me you're upset"

"Because you're making me uncomfortable, obviously!"

Something in those words provoke a reaction in the blind boy, who suddenly became tense and had a sad expression in his face. "I'm sorry, then" he stand up "I have to leave. See you"

As the boy retired slowly like a big burden was put on his head, Petra inmediately felt remorseful for her actions. Her way of life taught her that being so open with other beigns was a way to end up dead or hurt, so being that open to someone else was something completely new for her. It made her feel defenseless and her instintcs acted up as a result.

I'll make amends with him tomorrow, she told herself. After all, Yun was the only friend she ever had before. She didn't want to lose him.

However, several days passed after the friend's quarrel and after that he didn't came back. Petra felt like she had made him mad and couldn't stop thinking it was her fault despite her knowing it was his' for not knowing his limitations or boundaries. Is he trying to make me feel bad? she thought Well, he has it coming if he belives I'm going to apologize or anything like that! If something, HE should be apologizing to me!

Days still passed and he was still not returning. Petra started to get worried. Then the thought came to her mind; Why am I still waiting for him to come? I've been alone my entire life, it's not like I need anyone! But deep down she still missed her friend dearly. She had grown accustomed to having some company after being alone for so long. She was too stubborn to recognize that she hated to be alone but got used to it.

The boy made her forget about how her self-imposed isolation was chosen by her to protect herself against them. All of those who aren't Gorgons that wanted her dead. He made her vulnerable. Weak. Too risky. It was better like this.

But I hate the loneliness... I don't want to alone... For the first time I've found someone who isn't scared of me. Who doesn't hate me... Yun... I want to see Yun...

Maybe... Going to the village and take a quick peek? Check on him? Seeing him in his house...? No. No, no, no. No. No. Too dangerous. Too dangerous. Someone else could see her. Someone could find her. If the others find her, a raid will ensure and then she'll have to move away or turn them into stone. Which will also make her move away. Plus, she didn't knew were his house was. If she tried to track him using her smell, in such a crowded place it would be too complicated.

And even if the goes under the cover of the night, there are patrols at night to watch over monsters and bandits. Not to mention that at night there are always some kind of magical barrier that triggers an alert to the whole town when traspassed by at curfew time pass midnight, when the businesses are closed and all people except guards are sleeping. She knew this because very well because in other times she had tried to steal from them and almost didn't count it. Almost. And tried. Too dangerous. It's a bad idea...

Dammit, you're going to do it, right?

Don't. Only an idiot will do it. You're still on time...

However and despite all the warnings her mind gave it to her, Petra was still going to do it as she followed Yun's smell till the nearby village.

She was an idiot.

A big idiot.

But she didn't care. For once in her life she cared for something that wasn't just surviving and it was worth doing so.
