Chapter 1:

Sneaking a beer with your little sister

Laru sat atop his parents house looking to the sky that was filled with strokes of vibrant blues and greens. These bright colors contrasted greatly with the abyss of night that stared right back at him. He cracked open a beer taking a drink of it causing him to recoil a bit then he looked to the can.

“God that tastes awful.”

Luckily it hadn’t been the only beer he had snuck out of his parents fridge. He had a Pina Colada flavored beer that he was unbelievably excited to drink it. This scene was more than perfect for him. The beautiful sky, the wind blowing through his hair causing it to frolic. Fara looked up from the window she was crawling out of to see Laru’s silhouette watching her big brother spaced out looking to the sky made her heart soar. She stayed there for a second speechless staring at him imagining all of the things he could be thinking about. Wishing that she was a part of his thoughts. The idea she could populate such an important part of her big brother made her jealousy slowly melt away. Fara’s pale blue hair gave off an almost silver appearance being a dead give away to Laru who had been aware of her presence for some time. She was always behind him no matter what he did. He hated the lack of privacy but he would be lying if he said he wouldn’t miss her if she stopped. No matter what Laru did he could never commit to anything cause he knew about every possibility it made it hard for him to make a decision. He knew that if one day he told his sister to stop following him for the day she might find someone else to follow and that thought made him resent everyone around him. Even their parents weren’t safe from this treatment due to the thought that they might break them apart if he showed any sign of disliking his sister. No matter what he couldn’t relax, there were simply too many possibilities to keep in mind to ever rest. Except for on top of this roof, thanks to living in the countryside there was no way anyone could do anything that he couldn’t react to in time. No foresight was ever required while he was on top of here a safe space wouldn’t be the right term cause he knew that he was the most vulnerable here all it would take would be a gunshot from one of the bushes. He took another drink.

“Hey Fara, you wanna come up here?”

Laru made sure to say this rather quietly to make sure not to startle her and possibly make her fall off the roof. Fara slowly while quivering a little made her way to the top of the roof, sitting beside him. He handed a beer to her, the one that was flavored with Pina Colada that he had been so excited to drink. She looked at him and then went back to her drink. She held the beer with two hands as if it was a coffee mug. She investigated the bottle to find a way to open it without prevailing. Of course she tried to open the top with her hands but she just couldn’t do it. She leaned forward to Laru and asked while still holding the beer as if it was a mug.

“How am I supposed to open this?”

He just stared at her and laughed.

“Wow, you really can’t even open a bottle by yourself!”

His body was loose, eyes fully closed. Fara quickly yelped back.

“What do you mean by yourself, I can do plenty!”

Laru leaned back using his legs to hold onto the roof.

“Yeah, yeah sure you can.”

“You know I could push you off right!”

Laru didn’t change positions but his face went straight.

“Actually I haven't thought about that one.”

Fara went quiet and leaned back with him despite the risk. Though even with the risk the view it provided of the vast night sky was well worth it. He grabbed the beer from her hands and opened it for her, giving it straight back.

“So why are you giving me this?”

“To be honest I don’t really know, maybe I just wanted to show you the scenery?”

Fara looked to her big brother in disbelief.

“For what purpose?”

“Does there need to be a purpose?”

Fara looked back into the starry night responding to her brother in an unfaltering tranquil voice.

“With you there does. I mean you do everything strictly for efficiency's sake. You don’t buy treats, you don’t talk to people outside of me, you don’t even watch any entertainment unless it's with me. It would make more sense to me if you're making me drink to get something out of me.”

Laru looked at his sister distressed.

“Have I ever used you for anything!”

Fara chugged her beer a little and looked at her big brother.

“No but you're worrying me big bro. I worry that if I leave your side you won’t ever take a moment for yourself.”

Laru drank the rest of his beer.

“What am I doing here then?”

She looked her brother in his eyes with tears flowing down her eyes.

“I guess you make a point. Does that mean I’ve lost my purpose?”

Laru put his hand under her drink making her drink a little more of her drink.

“That's for you to decide I guess.”

Fara quickly chugged her drink all the way through. You could see her face pucker with the disgust her first drink of alcohol gave her. Then she quickly stood up and threw her glass bottle into a field. Laru calmly asked.

“What are you doing?”

Fara buried Laru’s face into her chest.

“If I cause enough problems then you can never leave. If I stay a mess then you will need to stay by my side!”

Laru got out of her sister's embrace and said.

“I guess you're right.”

He turned his back to her and said.

“I guess that means my hands are tied.”

They ended up both going into Fara’s room to sleep together with Fara being embraced into her older brother's arms.
