Chapter 26:

Choral Spell

Voice Academy Diaries

From Akira's Perspective

"Pepper is tough. You students, hold off the monsters outside," Salsa commanded.

"But—" Alegris started to interject, but Sonata stopped him.

"There might be disagreements, but disorder in the chain of command leads to death," she reasoned.

"Good point!" Elise agreed.

Indeed, it made sense to listen to the seasoned professional.

We four hastily made our way outside.

"Even if it’s just holding them off... It’s not like monsters can be easily defeated," Alegris grumbled, to which Elise promptly offered a suggestion.

"Have you guys ever cast 'Combi-Around-Throw'?"

Their expressions suggested they were caught off guard.

"Why didn’t I think of that?"

"You’re quite smart, aren’t you?" she praised.

Combi-Around-Throw.

I remembered seeing the name of this spell in the text. It's a choral spell sung by a tenor and a soprano.

It slows down an enemy’s movements with a female voice spell while a male voice expands its range.

"I’ve never done it, but I know the score," said Alegris.

"Me too."

With that, Alegris and Sonata started chanting the spell, and the space around us seemed to warp, the colors around us twisting strangely.

Was the magic taking effect?

The movements of the monsters in the distance slowed down.

"Now, let's cast it too. Long Fire," Elise announced.

"Long Fire? I’ve never cast that before."

"Just cast Basic Fire as usual. I'll harmonize with you. Just make sure not to get distracted by my pitch."

"Got it."

I wasn't sure what was happening, but I did as I was told.

"First, face 90 degrees this way."

"Like this?"

I pulled out the compass provided by the school and faced east.

"Casting Basic Fire!"

I chanted the Basic Fire spell as instructed.

Elise harmonized with me, and I focused on not getting distracted by her.

Then, the flames that usually traveled only 5 meters morphed into a fireball that shot far into the distance.

"Screech!"

It hit a Mage Goblin, and the flames spread to the surrounding trees.

"Nice! Well done! Next, face 75 degrees."

I turned in the direction she indicated and chanted Basic Fire again.

"Crackle!"

It hit again.

Could this work?

Then, they shot a fireball back at us.

Are we going to get hit?!
