Chapter 7:

Rika and Mimi

Spice of life [Remake]

Rika laid down on a booth and pulled out her phone. "I hope Stitch is done, it's been hours," she thought as she remembered the conversation they had a few hours ago.

...

Shiori put her gloves on and stared at the frozen girl. "Huh, a pod from that fancy cryogenics place. So how do you open it?" she asked Rika.

"Uh..."

"Ri, I'm a doctor not a hacker."

"Uh, I'll ask my partner," Rika nervously chuckled.

"Seriously, think things through, will you!"

"Oh, he said the notes will be up for sale on the dark web's black market shortly."

"Hie Cryogenics... Hie Cryogenics... Found it! HUH!? THIS SHIT COSTS A TON!" Shiori shouted as she gazed at the price on her phone.

"Ugh! Please Shiori, I need you to save her!" Rika desperately pleaded.

"Is she that important?"

"She's the reason I became a chef," Rika stated as she began to tell her tale.

...

A nervous cryogenics lab worker trembled as he stood before a frozen man he found inside a hidden room. He was unaware that a young 10-year-old Rika was sneaking up behind him.

"No, isn't this guy the former president of- GAH!?" The worker felt a sharp pain in his back as his vision began to get blurry. Rika had charged at him at breakneck speed, leapt, and stabbed a knife cleanly in his back. However, the man wasn't killed instantly.

"Shit, it must not have stabbed it through his heart all the way," Rika thought.

"No, I have so many questions. This room, who are these people? Why is there a young girl fully clothed in foreign attire? Is she someone important?" the worker groaned as he stumbled towards a pod containing a girl with platinum blonde hair garbed in foreign attire. He unintentionally deactivated the freezing device for the girl as his head slumped into the control panel connected to it.

"Well, guess I can stick him in this one then, though maybe I should have let him deactivate the president's freezing device so I wouldn't have to hack it," Rika thought as she pulled the knife out of the worker's back.

Suddenly, the girl that had been frozen opened her eyes and stared at her surroundings. "Hvor er jeg [Where am I]?" she asked as she stared at Rika.

Rika immediately charged for the kill, but the girl was able to dodge and restrain her with ease. "Hvad er din tilknytning [What is your affiliation]?" the girl asked.

"What language is that?" Rika asked.

"Huh? You're Kabutoan? I know Kabutonese, so does that mean I'm in Kabuto?" the girl asked.

"Kabuto!? What do you mean? We're in Tokyo."

"Tokyo? Where's that?"

"Um, Japan?"

"Ja-pan? Never heard of that place."

"Then why are you fluent in Japanese!?"

"I'm speaking Kabutonese."

"Again, what are you talking about. Who even are you?"

"Codename: Laks. Are you friend or foe?" the girl asked.

"No clue, don't even know who you are you loon," Rika growled as she managed to slip free and run for the exit.

"Wait! Don't just leave me!" the girl cried as she gave chase.

She managed to catch up with Rika easily once the two were outside.

"The hell!? D- Did I unseal a monster!?" Rika cried.

"Monster? No. I'm Codename Laks of Danablu. Ah, here! I forgot I had my ID on me," the girl smiled as she showed Mimi her ID card.

"'Government of Danablu: Mimi Gravlax, born January 20th, 1952'... Huh? Where'd you get this card at?"

"Why from Danablu, my home country. Oh, and just call me Mimi. I trust you," the girl smiled.

"You really are an odd one Mimi; well, I guess you can call me Ri. So, what are you gonna do now?"

"I'm gonna explore this place."

"Really? You're not gonna kill me?"

"Why would I kill an up-and-coming young spy like you?"

"I'm not a spy, I'm an assassin."

"Many top assassins are also spies."

"Ugh, well whatever, might as well tag along and be your guide. I'm not exactly in a rush to return home."

"Thanks for guiding me, Ri-chan."

...

"Kabutonese tech really is cool. It advanced so quickly since I was last here. Hylda would probably like a souvenir," Mimi smiled as she gazed into the window of an electronics store.

"Hylda?" Rika asked.

"Oh, she's a friend from Danablu- HYLDA! I forgot! She was in danger, quick take me to your spy agency!"

"Spy? I told you I'm not a spy I'm-"

"Then I'll just head back to Danablu. Where's the airport?"

"Hold up, where even is this Danablu?"

"Europon!"

"Europe? Hold on, come into this bookstore for a second."

Mimi followed Rika into a bookstore and was led to a globe. "Recognize this?" Rika asked.

"Yes, it's a globe of the world," Mimi smiled.

"Correct, see this, this is Japan," Rika stated as she pointed to Japan.

"Huh? But I was taught that was Kabuto. Did you guys change your name?"

"No. Now where's Danablu?"

"Right here!" Mimi smiled as she pointed to Denmark.

"Denmark? You're Danish?"

"Denmark? Is that how Kabutoans refer to Danablu now?"

"Could you pull out your ID again?"

"Uh, sure," Mimi nodded as she handed her ID to Rika.

"It says you were born in 1952, how old are you?"

"I'm 18."

"Impossible! It's 2007!"

"2007!?" Mimi gasped as tears began to well up in her eyes. "This is just a joke, right? It's almost 1971, right?" she trembled.

"No, it's March 16th, 2007," Rika sighed.

"Then, I was frozen for over 30 years!? So, is that why nothing's the same? Did Crimgulag do something?"

"What's Crimgulag?" Rika sighed.

"It's- huh? I thought it was much bigger, but now it's smaller," Mimi said as she pointed at Russia.

"Oh, the Soviet Union collapsed in 1989. I wasn't born yet, but I do know it happened."

"Well, that's good news. Guess that means we won."

"I think I have a somewhat clearer picture of who you are. You're a Danish spy that fought against the Soviets in the Cold war. This Hylda you mentioned, how old was she?"

"Same age as me."

"Then she's probably old and retired now assuming she survived."

"Ri-chan, do you think you could help me search for my old team?" Mimi asked.

"Might as well. I agreed to guide you after all," Rika shrugged.
