Chapter 5:

Psycho Killer Part 2

Karitori: Kyodai

Note: This is the 2nd half of Chapter 4, while considered as Chapter 5 by Honeyfeed I still consider it as Chapter 4. It is merely broken up because I went a bit overboard and made the chapter a bit too long, but consider this as a little gift for my extended leaves, I'm sure it'll make all three of my readers happy.

Part 1: Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap

Sometime earlier.

Sam stands in front of Reitcher and Son’s bar again, this time with a silver drinking glass in his hand. He pushes the door open and steps in again, being met with disdain from Leo. “What are you doing back here?”

Sam once again sits down at the counter and places the silver glass on the table. “Talked it out with the bosses. They said, ‘It’s Christmas go right ahead and drink.’”

“Sure.” Leo says with doubt as he looks at the glass. “I have glasses for you to drink from.”

“I know! But I like that one, family heirloom.” Sam puts some money on the counter. “Pour some in, would ya?”

Leo grabs a bottle from the highest shelf and opens it up, he tilts the bottle to the glass without touching it.

Sam stops him before he pours in. “Say wait a minute. Can you clean the glass for me a bit?”

“Why?”

He places even more money on the counter. “Why not?”

Leo seems reluctant to pick up the glass, tapping the counter and looking around.

“Well, I paid you, didn’t I?” Sam says, leaning in and slowly reaching for his gun.

Leo opens the tap water behind him and carefully picks up the glass with his bare hands, only for nothing to happen as he cleans the glass and ultimately pours a drink for Sam, giving him a sense of relief as he lets out a deep breath, he then places the drink down.

Sam downs the entire drink.

“How’s it taste?”

Sam twirls the last bit at the bottom of the glass. “Like cardboard… but, well! What doesn’t?” He places a coin on the counter on top of the money and stands up heading for the door. “A small tip.” He briefly stops at the door to check his phone as it rings again, but he puts it in his pocket.

Leo picks up the money on the counter and when he touches the coin, it sizzles and burns his hand causing him to scream and drop it. Sam instantly pulls out his gun and fake ID and fires a shot into the air, shocking several people in the bar and making many scream and cower. “OFFICIAL P.S.I.A. BUSINESS!!! CLEAR OUT NOW!!!”

He keeps his gun trained on Leo as everyone runs past him out the door. “And don’t report this to the cops you hear!!!”

“Well… officer.”

Sam slowly moves towards Leo after everyone has moved out. “Well, Night Breaker. Or should I call you Wolfie?”

Reitcher continues to clean his glasses. “You got me. How’d you figure it out?”

“Context clues. So, what’s your deal? Kidnap and eat people? Turn them?”

“Something a little bit more complicated.”

“Where’s your son?”

Reitcher tosses the glass away and folds his arms. “I assumed you killed him.”

Sam starts lowering the hammer. “Not yet. So, is the Breaker some sort of generational thing? Or is everyone in here involved with it?”

“What do you mean?”

“Do you dye your hair, beardo blanco?”

“Of course not!”

“That explains a lot.”

Leo turns his back to Sam. “Just shoot me already if you keep asking these pointless questions.”

“Gladly.” Just as Sam starts squeezing the trigger he gets hit in the back of the head with a metal pipe, knocking him to the knees and before he can react, he is again hit on the head and knocked out by Hikaru.

“You took your time.” Leo turns back around.

“Apologies, father.” Hikaru drops the pipe as Leo walks towards him and grabs Sam’s arms trying to lift him up, Hikaru follows by picking up Sam’s legs and carries him towards a door in the corner of the room. “What does he weigh? Only a kilogram?”

Leo kicks the door open behind him, leading down a flight of stairs they both carry him down into a cellar, brewing machines and distilleries lining the walls of the dark room, they place Sam against a wall in the back of the room, next to a corpse and attach shackles to him.

“Shoulda just stayed away like a good little officer.” Leo says spitting on Sam and grabbing Hikaru’s shoulder.

“What do we do with him, Dad?”

Leo looks at the decomposing corpse sitting next to Sam. “We have been running out of supplies recently, you know what to do.”

“Are you certain? He’s different from our usual ingredients, older.”

“Yeah, besides every good restaurant needs to innovate, and something about him… isn’t right, I want to see what’s inside him.”

The two of them start walking away from Sam.

“Oh boy, oh boy…” They face Sam as he raises his head up to look at them. “By the way Hikaru, I weigh 55kg.”

Sam looks around, the only light from a candle standing on a table in the middle of the room, turning his head next to him he sees a decomposing person with all her flesh removed and only her muscles and a few organs left behind. “Dinner, I reckon?”

Leo stomps to Sam, angry and annoyed. “What do you want here?!”

“You know today I was planning on staying at home, reading, until my brother dragged me into this, and well plans change. So right now, my plans are to kill a pair of serial killers.”

“Pair?”

“Yeeaahhhh.” He looks at Hikaru. “Someone’s been a bad boy and eaten their meal early. Tell 'em.”

Leo steps towards Hikaru. “What does he mean?”

“I don’t know!”

“Hate to budge into this family feud. But let me give you my little story here. 1968, East London. A break-in occurs, two men dead, the wife missing, the first ever attack of the Night Breaker. A short while later, a new bar and restaurant is established. ‘Reitcher’s’ it became famous for its brew and of course, the meat used in almost all meals. Which is said to resemble and taste like veal, although just a tiny bit off. Like… human flesh. Wherever Reitcher’s went, the Night Breaker soon followed another woman missing, another family dead. Eventually Reitcher’s rebrands to Reitcher and Son’s when the owner’s son started participating in the work, well not really, right boy? Now for today, the Night Breaker made a fatal slip…” Sam laughs. “He left the main victim behind!”

Leo looks at Hikaru with disappointment in his eyes.

“Now I wonder which one would make an oopsie.” He turns to Leo. “The world-famous bartender slash cook, with years of experience in cleaning up and handling a knife.” He turns to Hikaru. “Or the son, emotional and sad that his daddy doesn’t like him, so he tries to make up for it, but he lacks a bit of patience and eats from the plate a bit too early.”

Leo picks up Hikaru and throws him across the floor while Sam enjoys this spectacle. “I TOLD YOU THAT I’LL HANDEL GETTING THE VICTIMS!!! ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS CUT THEM UP!!! But, no!!! Clearly listening to your own father is that hard!!!”

“I just wanted to impress you! Get your attention!” Hikaru pleads as he scrambles away from Leo.

“You continue to disappoint me by the day, boy!!!” He slaps Hikaru across the face.

Sam looks at Hikaru. “Should I call CPS?”

Leo points at Sam. “SHUT UP!”

Upstairs someone walks into the bar and shouts “Hello?! Anyone here?”

Leo stomps the floor. “You, boy! Cut him up, I’ll go deal with this.” He walks over to the stairs and starts walking up. “And don’t eat him, we’ll talk about this later!”

Walking up the stairs, Leo sees a man sitting at the counter, none other than Kane. “Bar’s closed.”

“That so? Sign says open.”

Leo stands against the counter. “Listen, pal if I say the bar’s closed, IT’S CLOSED!”

Kane puts a bit of money down. “Can this change your mind? Heard a lot about you, always wanted to try one of yours.”

Picking up the money, Leo leaves the coins on the counter only taking the notes. “Glass or bottle?”

“Bottle.” Kane looks around the bar, noticing the bottles and glasses on the floor, the full plates of food, and the hole in the roof. “What happened in here?”

Leo places an open bottle of his beer in front of Kane. “Party got out of hand.” He walks over to the hole in the roof and picks up the revolver beneath it. “One of the patrons had a bit too much to drink.”

Kane notices the revolver and stops Leo as he passes him. “Hey lemme see that.” He takes the revolver and inspects the engravings of roses running along the barrel and to the frame, forming a beautiful pattern of flowers and leaves. The barrel and frame are made of iron and the cylinder is black steel. The grip is made of Bubinga wood with a carving of Gustave Dore’s illustration of Death Sitting on the Moon etched onto it. “For a drunk patron, he sure has an artistic vision.” Inspecting the cylinder, he takes out a silver bullet from inside it. “Very artistic, I bet he called it Santa Muerte.”

Leo tries snapping the gun from Kane, but he quickly puts it in his jacket pocket. “I’ll be confiscating it.

Down in the Cellar.

Hikaru stands up and punches Sam across the face, knocking out a tooth, but Sam can’t stop smiling even with blood dripping out his mouth. He tries to get a better look at the room as Hikaru stands at the table with surgery instruments and he notices a small window in the corner of the room, he opens his hand up wide to try and summon the Scythe through the window.

“You know I’ve dealt with some bad puppies in my time, but you two oohhh, you were born on the wrong side of the litter.”

“Shut up.”

“You know it’s got me asking, you’re Lycans, right? Lycan tend to have absolute control over themselves, turn whenever they want, eat whenever they want, but Akari last night, you couldn’t stop yourself, could you? Turned right there on the spot. That was your little mistake, so I gotta ask why not wait and drag her away?”

Hikaru stays silent.

“Come on I just wanna know before I chop your head off.”

Hikaru keeps working on the tools.

“Oh, wait a minute… daddy not been feeding you?”

Hikaru gets agitated.

“I saw the way you grabbed the food off my plate, your skinny build you haven’t eaten in a while, have you?!”

He slams the instruments on the table. “No!!! My father has this stupid little rule of his, we eat the leftovers!!!”

“Just like a real dog! You’re hangry!”

Hikaru kicks Sam in the stomach. “Day after day, we feast off of dead humans, sometimes rotten beyond compare while you, all of you get to feast off the finest meals, steak, lamb, pork chops.”

“Yeah, cursed one biology isn’t the nicest, those foods would tear your stomachs apart.”

“So, we thought for the longest time, you should finally get a- well a taste of our world, literally.”

“You sick little labradors.”

Hikaru turns around. “I don’t imagine you know it.”

“So Akari, how’d you meet her?”

“I asked her out, she…”

“Don’t lie to me, she didn’t reject you.”

Hikaru picks up a knife from the table. “You’re right! She took me home and you know the rest from there.”

“Guess the vet is going to have to put you down, you’ve been getting aggressive boy.” Sam tries his hardest to get the scythe to him. “Puppy been biting too much.”

“I wouldn’t be joking if I were you.”

Sam looks over at the table of knives and surgical instruments. “You’re going to eat me, are ya?”

“Cook you.”

“Oh no-no-no, I can see past those greedy little glutinous blue eyes. Right now, you’re thinking ‘which part should I eat first?’”

Hikaru gets right up in Sam’s face. “You know what maybe you’re right! Maybe I should eat you right now!”

Sam headbutts him and grits his teeth. “You want to eat me, then go ahead, AND HAVE A BITE!!!”

“Gladly.” Hikaru has a smug look on his face as he takes off his coat.

Sam repeatedly hits the wall with the back of his open hand trying to get the scythe. “Stop talking Samuel!”

Meanwhile back at Reaper Hunting Co.

Annah is sitting at the kitchen table, doing absolutely nothing, and waiting for them to come back, bored out of her mind. When she hears knocking coming from the living room, she springs up. “That must be them! Or Michael!”

When she enters the living room, the first thing she sees is Sam’s scythe hitting itself against the door repeatedly trying to get out. She slowly approaches the door the Scythe making way for a second as she cautiously pulls it open. When the door is open the Scythe flies so fast that it knocks Annah back a bit.

“What the hell?”

As the Scythe flies towards Sam, Hikaru starts his transformation. His bones penetrate out of the flesh, spewing blood everywhere, the skin barely holding together in several places along the arms and legs, his elbows grow beyond his upper arm, forming sharp spikes barely held together by tendons and flesh. His spine elongates pushing his head up, stretching and pushing his ribs out, giving him a slouched and lanky physique, standing nearly as tall as the cellar they’re in at 6’7ft (200cm) tall. The flesh around his neck boils and grows thicker, combining his lower jaw and chest into one His nose grows smaller and becomes one with his upper jaw as both it and his lower jaw grow outwards, the teeth growing sharper and longer, his canines not even fitting withing his mouth anymore. His ears grow pointier and draw back into the back of his head. The black hair on his head grows longer and fur of the same color covers his body. Like an overgrown, yet unfed black wolf standing on its hind legs.

Sam feels his scythe getting closer. “Oh, I’m gonna enjoy this.”

Track Recommendation: “Stricken” – Disturbed.

As Hikaru steps towards Sam in his hulking form, the Scythe comes crashing through the window and strikes him in the back before landing in Sam’s right arm. He cuts his left hand loose, grabs the Scythe with it then cuts the other free and throws it back to the right hand. He then stands up and rolls his shoulders, throwing off his suit jacket.

“What are you?!” Hikaru screams, his words barely audible due to his form.

“A professional.” Sam says as he readies himself, spinning the scythe and taking a combat stance.

They charge at each other, Sam is towered by the Lycan. Hikaru makes the first attack by biting Sam in the shoulder, but his teeth are instantly burned by the Silver in Sam’s blood, forcing him to let go.

“Like I said take a bite.”

Sam kicks him back and slashes him across the chest twice, forming an x over it and splashing blood all over his face. He follows by sinking the blade right through Hikaru’s stomach, using the curve of the scythe to hook him and drag him around, scrambling Hikaru’s inside with the blade, eventually he pulls the blade back out, leaving only a massive gash in his stomach.

In retaliation, Hikaru throws his claw at Sam, but he blocks the strike with his left arm, holding him in place.

“What’s wrong doggy? Play with your food too much?”

Try as he might Hikaru cannot overpower Sam with his strike. Sam throws back Hikaru’s arm and kicks him in the legs, making him trip and while he’s falling, Sam hooks the scythe into his chest, piercing his right lung then using raw strength he raises Hikaru above his head and slams him back into the ground with twice the speed, shattering several bones. Then while still hooked in Sam flips the blade around and drags it out of him, slicing open the right side of Hikaru’s stomach and a piece of his left.

Sam takes the Scythe out once again and holds it with both arms, he then screams as he plunges it straight into the heart several times, each hit with more force than the last, he tries his best to hide his laughter and adrenaline with his screaming. He doesn’t stop until he sees the blood covering his gloves and lets go of the scythe, leaving it in Hikaru’s chest and after taking a few deep breaths, walks away.

As Sam goes towards the stairs, Hikaru raises up one final time, Scythe still in his chest. He tries one final sneak attack on Sam with a bite, but he quickly grabs the Scythe out of his chest with his left hand then grabs onto it with the other hand, raising it above his left shoulder and quickly spins around, in the motion chopping off Hikaru’s head.

This ruckus catches the attention of Leo and Kane upstairs.

Kane looks at the door to the cellar in the corner. “What’s that?”

Leo hides the situation with an awkward laugh. “Hmm probably just some rats messing with the brewery.”

Kane nods. “I see…”

Leo turns around away from Kane, trying to hide the lie on his face. “They’ve been a real problem these last few days. I should go see actually!”

Kane whistles for Leo’s attention and when he turns around Kane immediately smacks him in the face with the bottle, shattering it. He grabs Leo by the throat. “Where is he?!”

The door creeps open, only making a slight sound, Kane points his gun at it.

“Who’s in there?!”

Out of the darkness comes the head of Hikaru rolling on the ground as it slowly turns back into his human form, swiftly followed by Sam, Scythe in hand and covered head to toe in monster blood. This sight makes Leo scream at the top of his lungs.

Even Kane is astonished by this. “Sam? Where-?”

Sam simply walks past Kane towards the outside, grabbing his gun out of Kane’s hand. “Kill him.”

Kane lets go of Leo as he drops to his knees, covering his screams with his hand and picking up Hikaru’s head with the other. “WE WERE GOING TO DO SO MUCH MORE!!! OUR BUSINESS- OUR FAMILY.” Leo looks up at Kane tears streaming down his face accompanied by rage and an ounce of fear. “BUT NOW-…” Gritting his teeth he slowly stands up again to begin the transformation process. “NOW I MUST START AGAIN!”

Hearing the distant sirens Kane quickly takes out his gun and shoots Leo right through the head with a silver bullet, killing him instantly. “I’d like to, but I’m in a rush!”

Quickly running out and getting into the car, Kane turns on the ignition. “We gotta go before the cops get here!”

“Right.”

He drives away just in time for the cops to arrive. “What happened in there?”

Sam looks at Kane. “What?”

“The whole laughing and screaming I heard all that you know! And then the head and-!”

“It’s been a long day Kane. This…” He tugs at his shirt. “…suit is uncomfortable.”

“Listen, Sam, I’ll always be with you, but there are just days where I-“ He slams the steering wheel. “I worry about you.”

Sam almost touches Kane’s shoulder but pulls back. “I just had one of those days man. I just need a nap, a bath, and food. It’s getting late.”

“It’s three-thirty.”

“It’s late.”

Kane turns his attention back to the road. “Alright.”

A brief silence follows between them, and Kane speaks first. “Oh and… Merry Christmas, Sam.”

“Merry Christmas, Kane.”

When he turns back to Sam, the very first thing Kane sees is Sam licking the monster blood off his face. “Oh, come on!”

At the bar Agent Mononaki and a group of police officers step inside met by the body of Leo and the decapitated head of Hikaru, he readies his gun and walks into the basement, the first thing to catch his eye is the rest of Hikaru covered in blood and slices and then the other rotting corpses in the room. “How can two men do all this?”

An officer approaches Mononaki with a case file in hand. “Sir here’s everything we could find on these two, no names known, no identities, no nothing, they’re basically ghosts.”

Mononaki grabs the file and flips through it, looking at all the bodies left behind by them, all equally mutilated, some even burnt. “Damn.”

“They’re basically wanted for every type of crime under the sun, we got them for speeding, murder, trespassing, grave desecration, property damage, impersonating an official, speeding. Name it, they’ve done it.”

“Any leads?”

“Sort of. A detective Masayoshi has been on their trail for quite a while, yet he hasn’t come close to them yet. Like I said, ghosts.”

Mononaki hands back the file. “Ghosts aren’t real, officer. Get me in contact with this Masayoshi.”

Sam and Kane arrive back at Reaper Hunting Co.

Kane leans back and puts his feet up. “You go in, I’ll sit here and listen to the music for a bit.”

Sam wipes the remaining blood off his face with a towel and gets out, Kane swipes the towel from him as he leaves.

Sam walks into the living room and sees Annah sitting at his desk, eyes wide open, her hands clenched and kicking it while Solomon also sits on it. “Sam!”

Sam unbuttons his shirt and grabs a black one from the coat hanger. “Yes, Annah!”

She turns away from him for a second while he changes shirts, still kicking the desk. “Oh, relax you’ve seen more.” Finally, he throws his coat back on. “What’s wrong?”

“So, uh M-m-m-Michael was here with your ‘gift.’’

“Huh, where is it?”

Solomon speaks for Annah’s part. “I think you’ll find… her… in your room.”

“Huh?”

“Just go see.”

Sam rushes up the stairs and through the corridor to his room, stops in front of the door, and carefully pushes it open. On the other side, a girl, not much shorter than him, but much younger, the first thing to catch his eyes is her long scarlet hair.

“Are you Samuel Reyes?” She asks him.

“Uh-uh-huh.” The only thing Sam can think of.

“So… you’re my father?”

He turns his head away. “Suurrreee-“ He immediately darts it back when it processes for him. “HUH?!”

Chapter 4: End.
