Chapter 4:

Beginning of Chess

Kaneko: The Golden Child

I run out the tunnel exit with a strong breeze coming from above. A man appears from the sky and impacts the ground creating a small crater. He’s aura seems strong. Wait, have I seen him before?! He has a black hood, jeans and sneaker shoes. Shit, it’s him.

“I have finally found you, Kaneko.”

“What do you want!” I yelled in fear.

“Now that you have consumed the crystal, I guess I must force the power out of you.” He says while laughing and smiling. Such an evil spirit he has.

“I am not giving you the crystal! And how did you find me?!”

“Well, you can say I sniffed into some information about you. You know Rin, don’t you?”

“RIN?! WHAT DID YOU DO TO RIN?!” I yelled while hardening my fist.

“Oh, relax now Kaneko, I did nothing that is not hurtful.” He giggles and laughs.

The sarcasm of his, I can feel it. As my emotions flow through my spirit and move my body, I feel anger. He must pay. I take a deep breath and focus my eyes on him as I walk towards him, my hand becomes covered in gold and I prepare to charge. I leaned my upper body forward and began sprinting towards him. All of a sudden a lightning element flows through the ground coming from the hooded man. I prepare to attack, but he launches up like lightning. Shit, he is fast. While he is in the sky, he strikes a lightning barrage towards me. I swiftly by instinct block with my golden hands and the lightning does not affect me. All the electric energy runs through my hands and ignores my body.

“Tch, you must be kidding me.” The hooded man said, while slowly landing.

“I guess, you cannot hurt me with your power.”

“You are right, Kaneko. But with my speed, I can still flank you.” He says, while swiftly making a move that the blink of an eye cannot see. He makes his way behind me and punches me right on the back. The lightning goes through me and I drop to the ground while getting burnt alive. This is not the time to give up.

Near the outskirt of the park, I hear sirens coming towards us. I must catch him, so the police can take him. After the millions of volts going through me, I finally manage to get myself to stand up straight, full of sorrow I stand there. The hooded man looks at me, making a charge straight towards me. As he is 2 meters away from me, I rotate around him in a flash with my bare strength and hits a punch, landing right on his chin. He flies back a couple of meters away from me, as he hits the ground, I feel the inner strength of the Golden God. My eyes become two bright yellow glowing orbs.

“FIRST STAGE, KOGANE NO UDE.”

Both of my arms become fully covered in gold and my strength, speed and spirit increases. The hooded man gets up from the ground looking at me in shock, but he proceeds to do something himself. He rises from the ground and takes his hood off, exposing his face... A scar on his left eye. A lightning sphere summons and he absorbs all electricity around him. From the air he vanishes right in front of me, laying his hand flat on my chest. All the electricity goes through his hand and creates an orb that explodes. He sends me flying to heaven.

What am I doing here, why was it me? As I fall from the skies, he grabs me and lands on the ground. The police arrive and quickly act, they point guns at him but within a second, he flees from the scene. As I lay there, looking up to the skies I faint.

“Kaneko!” someone says. A familiar voice. Ah, my mother. “Kaneko, where have you been?!” She asks me in tears, while the police help me into my home.

“Miss Kaneko, before we leave, we still have to investigate the scenario. So, Kaneko is going to speak with one of our officers in the duty of crystal users.” One of the officers says.

“Crystal? But Kaneko holds no crystal?” My mom asks confused, but still in tears.

“We saw Kaneko with crystal power, we never have seen before. But let him rest for now and one of our officers will come by tomorrow.”

Next day.

I wake up in my bed, feeling very hurt. I stand up but nearly falls, my vision seems a bit off. I head downstairs and see my mom sitting with a man with a brown coat. He must be the officer.

“Goodmorning, I take it as you are Kaneko.” The officer says and smiles. I say nothing, as I feel quite dizzy and sick.

“Well Kaneko, come sit with us and we can talk about what happened. So, the incident was a rough one, wasn’t it? From the reports, the other 2 officers who came to rescue you, reported the incident as classified. As it contains not one crystal user but two, then we must take precautions of what we do.”

While I talk to the officer, my mom still wants me to go to school, so she packs my backpack for me. As times goes by, the officer and I finish the conversation.

“Kaneko, here is your backpack. And be careful now, report anything you see to officer Kenzo Christian.” Says my mom while handing my backpack to me.

“Miss Kaneko, if you do not mind, I can drive Kaneko to school!” He says and smiles in a loud way. My mom, think it’s a good idea so she agrees.

“Sure, Kaneko goes to the school right down the block. 10 minutes away.” My mom proceeds to answer.

“Oh really? My daughter Rin Christian goes to the same school.”

For a moment I stop. What did he just say? THAT'S RINS FATHER?! I panic inside of myself and hope for the best as he drives me to school. We arrive at school and Rin is standing outside, waiting for us. As I exit the car, Rin runs towards me and hugs me.

“Woah, what’s wrong Rin?” I ask, while nearly falling.

“I saw the news this morning, dummy.” She mumbles, almost bursting out in tears.

After all the watering eyes, we head to the entrance and head to class. As I enter the class everyone stares at me. Time goes by and I feel tired in every class. Finally, at lunch, I sit at a table with Rin and one other guy. Who is he? Tch... Probably someone that likes Rin too.

“Oh, Hi Kaneko, have you met Daichi?”

“Heya Kaneko, my name is Daichi nice to meet you!”

I look at him with disgrace and jealousy, but I should not overthink. As I force myself to smile, I greet him. We sit at the table discussing homework and learning more about Daichi. I should probably ask Rin out before Daichi makes a move.

“So, Rin, Wanna hang out today?” I ask while drinking and hiding behind my cup.

“Oh sure, that would be nice!” She answers, smiling and tilting her head.

Daichi bothers in the conversation and asks if he could join, I simply could not refuse because I did not want to be rude to Rin. When school was over, we prepared and headed towards the local anime section of Tokyo. As we enter the anime section, me and Rin walk side by side and Daichi runs around like a little brother behind us. Daichi seems immature but funny. It’s now or never, I grab Rins hand and pull her to the mirror maze. We run through the mirror maze and I accidentally run into a mirror. She laughs, while I fall.

Just as I get back up Daichi bumps into us all, making me fall again. We all laugh and smile. After having such a great time, we head back but something is in the way. Eight people surround us, and the Hooded man appears from behind. I panic, as they grab Rin. I try to pull her, but the hooded man knocks me out with a punch and Daichi runs away.

“I can't steal your power in the open, so let's play a game of chess.”
