Chapter 56 - going back to the hood (Part 8) - a Chinese takedown (Another detour)

It's a beautiful morning in Los Angeles, with haze and traffic. I wake up on my sofa, Amin is on the floor, and Mariam is in my bedroom. It's a typical morning in Los Angeles, where the hazy traffic is more crowded than my living room! Meanwhile, Mika dragged Ying to her house so they could sleep. I guess it's true what they say, Los Angeles is the city of dreams - even if you don't have a place to live, you can always sleep in the traffic! There was something really sadistic about Naomi's way of having fun. It was scream-filled mornings with those girls, however. I guess it's true what they say, Los Angeles is the city of dreams - but if you want a good night's sleep, you'd better bring your own earplugs!

“Bitch!! You know there is a limit in getting yourself naked in bed!! The fact that I lived next door and could hear through the walls of this apartment made me hear the shouting of Ying. I guess Ying was not aware of the fact that their neighbours could hear her! Maybe she should have taken her own advice and kept it down to a whisper.

“What the hell are those girls doing there?” Mariam said to me and waking up with bad bed hair because her curls puff out, almost looking like afro. While Amin slept peacefully, I realized that I forgot to pray for Fajar. Mariam suddenly sleeping next to Amin, and she said to me again

“Wake me up when you done making breakfast…” she went to sleep cuddling with Amin, that’s a bit annoying though. What the hell are you thinking just because we are in the States?! Well how about I’m going to make an even playing field. The morning sounded by shrieking sound of Mariam and Amin together waking the whole neighbourhood, pissing everybody off. I walk out knowing that I manage to beat the heck out of them. I headed to Naomi’s home, where they prepared breakfast. Nothing like a coffee in the morning.

It's just that I don't know how the hell I'm supposed to accomplish this. Damien is targeting the family when Ying does not want to return home. An unexpected phone call rings, and I pick it up. I can hear Damien on the other end.

"Hey Homie" Damien seems calm. As much as possible, I responded in a neutral manner

“Morning, aren’t you a little early as usual...getting the same shit coffee again?” Definitely sarcastic, but at least a way to start a conversation with Damien.

"Oh, you know me, can't resist the taste of that liquid gold. Keeps me fueled for the day, just like your witty banter." Damien responds quickly, voice jousting, kind of remembers his manner of starting fights, words then fists. But every time Damien tries to throw a punch, he ends up tripping over his own feet and landing face-first on the ground. It's like his fists have a mind of their own and prefer to engage in a comical dance routine rather than a fight.

“You’re not talking shit now, right?” I’m gonna ask him why he’s calling.

As a knight saving a damsel in distress...homie just a warning homie...Jerado won't get quiet, and with your stunts, I'm pretty certain the other party is being careful....” It's hard to figure out what he is trying to tell me, is he just making me panic or is he really telling me something?

“Okay…so what is your point then homie?” Damien only chuckles which annoys me

“Is that funny?” I really need to end this conversation now.

"Don't forget homie...just because you have a shield does not mean you can protect everyone...homie...just remember that..." I could only hear one voice from afar, is this Nat? Is Damien at UCLA? Why the hell is he there?

“Homie.” My hand shakes with anger, I feel as though I am about to explode.

“Since you're playing hardball, I'm going to play this card.” Will he do the same thing again? Wait a minute, what? Hold on a second, Damien warned me about Ying before. To save them from harm, a sacrifice was about to be made, that was the last time that me and Damien tried to save that family. Ying related to elder because she is the direct line to the family.

“You telling me that Ying is a time bomb?”

“Now you catching eh homie, I don’t care but she is getting really deep and I don’t trust her at all homie that is why Darrel always warn us about her…” now I’m really confuse which side is he on?

“You're now with Nat, is that you trying to tell me?” Now I’m really started to boil.

“Homie…you girl is doing the same thing you are doing now…I ain’t your baby sitter to look after her… but at least she manage to get me closer to what I want”

“Then…you know what happen right if anything happens to her, homie…” I really don’t like threaten him like this but he started first.

“Well then, she is in Gale’s place…” Fuck!!, that is the last thing I wanted to hear, my heart begun to race and I instantly change my clothes and speed through with my bike. One thing I did not realise that someone is sitting behind the passenger seat of my bike. Which is Mika. How the hell she is behind me?.

“Aren’t you early going for a workout…” what kind of respond or words I’m going to say about this

“uh….” She suddenly close my mouth

“I heard from the phone, you ain’t going solo this time…” she load her gun. The only thing on my mind as I speed towards Gale's strip club is Nat's safety. I have to get there quickly and make sure Nat is okay. I just hope I'm not too late. As soon as I reach the strip club, I see a group of men waiting outside, armed just like soldiers of fortune. I don’t give a damn about what happen right now, because the only thing in my mind right now is Nat.

“Mika this ain’t gangster or whatever you facing right now…” I just wanted Mika to understand what is going to happen now. But she suddenly smile at me.

“Babe…all those guns blazing, explosion, and even mayhem in the last few weeks is nothing right now, you think that I’m going to back off?” Damn she is right, at least she has experience that crazy thing right now.

“alright…back me up” Is went out from my bike, and slowly head towards the front of the strip club, I know that in front of me is the De Santo gang, but there is something familiar with this kind of grunt, a vibe like Darrel’s.

Now in my head, I could just slow entered the place without these guys noticing. Through the toilet. I signal Mika to follow me, and entered through the back side of the strip club, and its only guarded by only one man and he is only arm with a gun. Talk about lucky.

“Wait up..Mika” Mika wondered what am I doing now.

“So, what kind of approach you want to take that ?” I slowly approach the guard and taken a choke hold at the neck of the guard while closing his mouth, blocking his trachea until he is unconscious.

“Is that how you guys handle things in the old days?” Mika doesn’t know about me though, because If a real brotha in the streets while really loud kind of way of handling stuff, things is going south real quick. But Darrel taught us about being tactical.

“Nope, Darrel taught me about this. Most jobs is just about having things getting it done with discreet rather than being a loud, among those of the 102’s, me and Damien is the only one that operates like a hitman…”

Mika look as if she understand “Naomi told me about you and Damien….but I really don’t believed it myself seeing how you handle things here”

“Yeah” after we took out the guard and manage to stand him without noticing. The only thing that I’m worried is that the camera because is facing at the door but not at the guy, I hope they haven’t notice this.

I slowly open the door, and entered which is a kitchen area, funny thing is that no one is cooking now, only some guards enjoying their meal. I ask Mika to cover her face with a hood and face-mask. We slowly crouch avoiding any unnecessary contact with the guys here. Kinda funny though, this is not Gale’s men but somewhat I gone familiar with, but they look kinda legal like some policeman or CIA related government agent things.

I’m impressed with Mika right now because she just obediently follow my instruction without having any problems. Mika then hold my shoulder and signal me with her head towards the kitchen. I slowly look on the side, they literally armed with M4 assault rifle?

“Not AK’s eh? That is really funny how the hell De Santo get a hold of these guns?”

I make a head count in the kitchen, which only had at least 10 people inside. Shit, this ain’t a street gangster but a real soldier. I don’t think Mika could handle this. I hold my pistol; the M9 and Mika PPK are not enough, and I need to find ways to reach inside without them noticing. I saw something that I could avoid; through a blind spot and weaving through them, I finally reached inside the strip club. It’s a bit quiet now, but I could hear a commotion now, like someone shouting.

“Hey Kal! Aren’t you supposed to bring her dad with us?” I slowly look its Nat and she is sitting at the sofa and this guy that Nat dated here somewhat.

“Hey!! That’s not part of our deal, you said that just bring her here and I get what I want!!” I continued to listen this asshole that dated with Nat.

Mika slowly talk to me “looks like they on to something”

“Just wait up…” I really need to do something about this.

“Then, what are you trying to prove something?! My dad is not someone that could be pushover?!”

“Aren’t you forgetting something right now? You are right where I wanted to be, but a looker like you is really interesting… hey Kal? How about let me have fun with her…?”

“Hey I don’t even took the merchandise yet! I’ll take first then its your turn!” Their dirty hands is hold her, the only thing in my head right now I just trying to save her and rip them apart. Then something or someone inside me trying to calm myself down

“Hey….just focus on saving her…” I asked Mika to slowly call Detective tracy about this and our location. Mika make the phone call…

“Yes its 246, Micheal Street…Gale’s Strip club…they armed and dangerous..” Mika suddenly pass to me

“Alex…just focus on saving Nat and do you know anyone else there?” I look around and there is another guy who is unconscious but why the hell he look the same as the guy that tried to hold on Nat? I respond back to Detective Tracy

“another one, and he is unconscious….”

“Got it….hold the fort for us we coming…” it will take them at least an hour to strike here. And once they reach here, god knows what when they going to take her. I had no choice and I look at Mika and ask her.

“Mika…I need you to save her and that guy while I taking them down, just focus on getting them out of this place…got it” I hold her shoulder and she looked at me and suddenly kiss me

“Just like in the movies….” Shit what the hell is that for? She nod back and we getting ourself an opening.

I saw one of them is trying to attack Nat I took a shot at the guys arm and he went down in pain

“FUCK!!!!!”

“WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON?!!!”

I shouted at Mika

“GO!!!! GET THE HELL OUT OF HERE!!!!” Mika slowly head towards the confusion, she took a beer bottle and smash at one of the guys head. Mika manage to reach her and I took a shot at most of guys at her zone. Mika does the rest by knocking them down. I only had 2 clips (24 bullets). I took a deep breath, and jumps at them. Aiming either their legs or hands without killing them. But I realise something, their movement is really slow, I could take my time to decide how to take them down.

Bang! Bang ! Bang! Looks like most of the guards is going in. I shouted at Mika

“Head towards the back!!!” I saw one of the guards had a flash band, and pull the clip and throw at the kitchen where the bunch of guys there.

“Mika !! Fire in the hole!!”

Mika then instruct them to close their eyes and ears.

A loud explosion and screams from the others side. Looks like a window of opportunity, I shouted at Mika

“Get the fuck out!!!”

“BABE!! Come on!!!”

“Alex!?” Nat is trying to get closer to me but Mika pull her out while pulling another guy out of the place. I took a smoke grenade and throw again and joins them. But I’m really pissed off now. Once I saw Mika manage to get out from behind. I look at her and Nat, I know that I ain’t getting her involved again. I close the door, and turn around where still a dozen of these men inside, I need to get that guy again, and Gale.

In the confusion still from the flash bang and smoke grenade, I jump over and knocked them over. I took a gun and M4, and looks like they have body armor, I wore it and started to attacked them. Shooting again. In my heart right now, is not emotions but something deeper, it's not like those feeling that I face before but a sense of getting things done.

Their movement is even slower than before, I could see bullet trail through my sight. I could not believed it. And I could see some sort of a path in my eyes. In each path points at the each person’s body, I took it. I touch the light trail its guiding me. Each point leads to a point where I wanted to go. One by one I took them down. This is nuts! Its like I’m not myself!? Then another path where is it asked me to hold the trigger and aim at the guy, I took it and it slowly towards the legs of the guy. Something is changing within me now, something powerful, and its scary, I could see Mika entering back, including Nat. Shit I gotta settle this. I took a shot and it leads behind Nat, Mika countered back and shot another guy, I could hear Mika shouting at Nat, pulling her away from the cross fire. I took another pistol. Its time, what I learn from Mr Marcus and what I have been practicing into a reality. The Gun-fu, or Mr Marcus said to me Gun Kata ‘martial arts with pistol’ I took two pistol and jumps and dance as if I’m in a trance, I could manage to shot them without having a lethal blow at them.

One of the guards shouted at me “what the hell are you!!? I never seen anything like it!!?”

“That is Alex, Darrels hound dog!!!” One of the guards terrified at me, backing off towards the exit.

“This ain’t what I know about Alex!? This is not something a walk in the park!! Gale!!!”

One by one of them retreating out from the exit only leaving Gale and Kal including one of the De Santo gang member. I could see Gale soiled himself looking at me

“Yo….Alex…shit…that is something….”

“This ain’t what I know about Alex….” Kinda pissed off right now, something is strange growing within myself. As if awaken after Damien warn me about it.

“So tell me Gale…” even my speech I lost my own hood style speech. What the hell is going on?

“Huh?” I pointed the gun at his face.

“Shit!! Look man….I’m not the only one that wanted LA!!” I look at another guy who is called Kal

“He never told me about Alex at all…” I wonder who is ‘he’ is about? I started to get deeper.

“Who is ‘he’ Homie..?” Kal shaken in fear while one of the De Santo gang member could not look at me.

“So…hombre… is this Don’s order?” The guy only look down, I could see his pants and piss is flowing down towards the carpet, that fucking smell..he could not answered it. I could hear a police siren, I walk out from the place. And head towards Nat and Mika. I was worried about Nat, is a bit traumatic for her. But once I open the door, in front of my eyes two girls is having a cat fight.

“Who are you bitch!?” Mika is eyeballing at her

“You better wash your mouth with antiseptic, its smelly” shit they really eyeballing at each other. Mika is 5’7 while Nat is 5’4 about the same height as Sylvia. Shit this ain’t something but at least she has the energy. I called Mika

“Mika…”

“Babe…” she suddenly approach me and Nat suddenly pulled her away.

“Get away from my boy…!!” Mika look at her,

“Bitch!! Who is you boy!? This is my man!!” Who decide that ? I don’t… this is getting nowhere and I need to stop this.

“Back off Babe!! this bitch need to know who is boss…” shit!! This is getting bad to worst by the minute.

“Alex…looks like she need to learn manners…” she is locking her arms between her body while Mika is gunning at her. Shit is need to stop this, but once the guy wakes up, Nat suddenly turn around.

“Well talk this later Mika…” there is something is going now suddenly Nat

“Bitch….” Mika ain’t backing off

“Its Nat….Mika…..” She is cute when she is serious….shit….

“ugh….Nat?” Nat crouch down and hold his head.

“Mike…threaten me and dad again….” Shit she is ruthless, but I need to find out something from Mike I approach him closer.

“Hey…do you know the mayor?” I directly asked him

“…….yes….” So it is true that Boulder betray us.

“So…anyone else.?”

“….you don’t know what kind of deep shit you and Damien going now….its scared the heck out of me…”

“Surprised me….” I look at him. But he look down and said

“Its was all a setup…everything was a setup….you and Damien is too dangerous to be alive, everything that they had tried to do taking down Darrel destroying the 102…a stepping stone…” Nat suddenly respond back

“I know about that case…I read it…” Nat seems to know more than me and she suddenly apologise to me

“Alex…I know all about this…sorry…” I hold my head at her and smile at her. Mika however had other plans.

“Now with all is good and cool, Bitch….we dig right? It's all good right?” Nat suddenly hold Mika

“That’s my boy there…you watch it…its that right horny dog…” shit I could see a yandere expression from Nat here.

“uh….well…look as long you safe. That is fine with me….” She suddenly smile at me.

“This is my babe, you’ve should see the doctor for it then…bitch…” Mika is really taking things to the next level. Dammit!!

Nat suddenly hold my arm and tried to pinch me really hard “uh huh…you know what….I started to like her, she reminds me of someone…” shit she is smiling or trying to make something out of this.

“Uh…whatever…” Detective Tracy found us from the front.

“geez….Nat that is some crazy stuff you doing here…” he is looking at me and Mika

“Detective Tracy…looks like my hunch is true then…” Nat seems to know something here.

“About this whole scene?” Detective Tracy is wondering about it, he is not the only one

“What do you mean Nat?” Mika suddenly interrupt

“Do you know this bitch!?” Shit I have explain everything to her yet.

“Later Mika, I’ve got to know this..” I look at Nat though she avoiding something from me.

“……….Damien and you are stupid about this….this stupid revenge….” Nat holding herself. And looking at me and holding my cheeks, damn man, she is really cute!! I had to control myself. Nat only smile but I know that she is pain looking at me.

“Is it true that Damien shot you…not once but thrice?” How the hell she find out about this? I reluctantly respond to her query but I tried to look away and change the topic

“Look I need to know about Damien Nat….” She suddenly hold my cheeks again, I could see her eyes..she is holding it. Dammit!! I could hear just noises between Mika and Detective Tracy; I could see only her, the real reason that I’ve deeply fallen for just like Sylvia and Frederica.

“dumbass…Alex…you forcing me to this….” We both just gazing at each other, there were no words between us but only looking at each other is enough to share something to each other.

“Asshole!!!! Bitch!!!!” Suddenly someone from behind Mika a guy with a knife in an instant Nat give a really sharp kick to the guys face, and he flew off to the big bin and instantly went in. That look of hers that fierce look.

She took a deep breath “huh….that took out of my system…right…Alex…” shit I forgot that Nat is no pushover that Savate style fighting. She is showing to Mika

“I’m a yellow glove…a gant jaune…” shit I’ve got to pull them away.

“Bitch…” shit Mika is really gunning for it I have to stop it. The two girls that I really don’t want them to meet again. Now it’s really like between Sylvia and Priscilla.

Detective Tracy said to me “well this is your problem kid, but at least they both are safe, I’m going to take this guy to my office for investigation, Alex take this ladies out.

One of the officer called Detective Tracy.

“You were write Detective, they all are former feds….”

“shit…this is going deep, Darrel…what the hell is going on…?” Detective Tracy look at me wondering what have happen. I have explain about the situation and the others were shock to hear it.

In my head right now, is trying to figure out where would Damien will be. I look around and think the word that said right now. Shit!! Mr Hawk!! I called the phone

“The bride is here….he is looking again…” Fuck!!!!! That was a fucking diversion!!!

Suddenly another call, which has no iD and it’s Soro

“you and your antics….” I could hear a loud commotion coming from the other side. And another word.

“Fuck you!! Who the hell are you!!!?”

“You’re worst nightmare!!” Fuck Soro!! Mika and Nat suddenly getting closer to me and Detective Tracy suddenly said to me

“Its covered….Maruk called me, Mr Hawk is safe”

“Soro….” Nat look at me and ask me

“Who is Soro?” I respond back to her

“No one that you wanted to remember” Maya suddenly appeared out of nowhere

“Hey big brother…” she is smile while taking a lollipop.

“Still the slow head eh….little nephew…”

“Uncle….” Its Maruk

“As long he is there, even Damien wanted to avoid any problem…” he suddenly look at me again.

“You have awaken again…kid….something really interesting within you” Nat and Mika suddenly protected me from Maruk

“Ah…the ones that you wanted to protect…”

“hey big brother…stupid Soro is at it again….” Detective Tracy called Maruk

“Hey surprising again eh Maruk…no casualty”

“Just like before….I wonder when are you going to break…but I seen in your eyes is much clearer now, the last time I seen it, its just pure rage…now its like pure and calm as the clear ocean itself, not the raging waters of the storm…” fuck does he know about it.

“About the streams….” He close my mouth and whispered to me

“That….is a gift…embrace it kid….it will help you in this kind of situation, Soro has it as well, there are only two other people in this world who has it….my grand daughter and now you…”

“Don’t ask your mom, she will never tell you that…you have to find out yourself kid…just like you find out in Kudat…” fuck how the hell that he knows… I approach him. Only to see Soro suddenly appeared out of nowhere again.

“Hey cousin…” shit that look really scared the heck out of me. Soro look at Mika and Nat

“Having fun eh playboy…”

“Easy now…Soro….he has it…” Maruk seems to know a lot right now

“Gun-fu….bullshit kind of way of fighting….I told you just kill them….” Nat suddenly approach him

“He is not going to be a killer!!” Mika suddenly approach him as well “asshole!! Babe is not going anywhere!! Shit Mika don’t!! I could in my gut right now, Soro is going to hurt them!!

“What are you going to do now kid…?” Fuck this!! Maruk is testing me again in front of them. Detective is taking a smoke and Maya then back off. I push the two away.

“Fine!!” Soro and me gaze eye to eye, as if we going for the kill. He started with a knife strike and suddenly his gun is point at my body, fuck!!

I pull his gun away from them. Mr Marcus lesson is now going in to practical use now. Punch after punch, he is dodging it, I could not think anything right now. Neither both of us is backing off.

“Hey you could beat Damien single handedly but why the hell you could knock you out…”

I could not answer it and respond to Soro

“Its because……he is an ASSSHOLE!!!”

“No….you are hesitating!!!” He punch right at my gut, fuck that hurt, I suddenly vomit blood and he said to me

“If you don’t hesitate…you won’t in this kind of mess…bro….” He kick me and I block it with my arm, I took his leg and throw him out. But he headbutt me and I knock back and punch my legs and lock me on my head, an elbow to his gut and he knock back again. I push him to the wall. I could hear Mika and Nat tried to stop me but Detective Tracy and Maruk is holding them back. Thanks

Soro took his gun and aim at me again, I push it down and he shot it and I push it aside and disable his arm to throw his gun and I took my gun he instantly took it out and drop kick me knocking me back. He did a tornado kick and knock me off, and I push him down with a cobra hold.

He knock me again. Its like neither of us is going down, instantly Maruk shot the gun signalling the fight its over.

“So Soro, how he is now?”

“Still the same…just only a bit quicker…” damn many face is filled with bruises and this time Mariam and Amin with Hardware is here as well. Mariam was about to explode as well but Amin hold her back

“Asshole!!” Soro look at me

“Seems like you’ve got a rowdy bunch of buddies eh…”

“Uh huh…” Soro suddenly walk out and said to me

“If you still hesitating, I’m the one going to take it got it….” He suddenly disappeared, damn man he is like a ghost. Maya approach me and said to me

“That dumb head never get well with people…” anti social type eh?

“Yeah….”

“So at least everything is under control…Alex…Soro is right….better think other ways got it…”

I did not respond because I’m still trying to figure out, but the one that scares me the most was when I face with the clone.

“Hey Maruk…” i had to ask him

“Yeah..?” I explain the situation with him personally while Nat and Mika could not hear it. During the time in Kudat. How I was unable to control myself and nearly got myself killed in the process.

“……that…..I don’t know…” damn even Maruk could not answer to that.

“If it wasn’t for Sylvia and my buddies there to help me, I could have died…” Maruk started to think and look at the skies and one word come out from his mouth.

“Survive….” He suddenly walk out with Maya while Maya wave good bye to us. Now this part where I’m going to have a long explanation with them.

Mika and Nat approach me closer. Nat started first

“Alex…what is going on? That move, as if….” I wanted to explain more but its still complicated for me to say it then Mika interrupt me.

“Babe…that is something really deep is going on here but….at least they are buddies here…” yeah Mika is trying to cheer things up here.

“yeah…for now…”

Detective replied to me back and explain the reason why Maruk is here.

“I’m the one that hired him, Marcus told me about Maruk, the legendary Vietnam war veteran, to one that give the American’s GI a run for their money” Amin interrupt

“You mean the one that help my dad and me is that guy?”

“Yep…you should be lucky kid…he’s a legend in this parts…but I heard from Faruq that a bunch of high school kids taking down terrorist in the jungles eh?”

Mariam were startle by this and Nat suddenly pull her arm.

“Are you okay!! When this is all happen?” Mika were impress as well “Mar I never knew you had experience!!”

“Kukuku, just to tell you the truth if it wasn’t your boy here including Priscilla we could not knock them down”

Amin then asked Mika the situation just now.

“Yeah homie!! He did some sort of kung-fu with a gun style fighting!!” Damn Mika, but one thing that I realise, I taught they will be scared of me but they only getting closer to me.

Mr Hawk finally arrived and Nat immediately embrace him and she started to cry for him

“There..I’m good…thanks son…” I could feel an ominous aura behind me which is Mika she suddenly hold my back

“Babe….is she just suddenly wanted to marry you babe….” Mariam then suddenly pull her away she is whispering to her. Fuck!! Is she trying to make it worst. I could only see she suddenly approach Nat even closer.

“Bitch….” Fuck!! This is getting worst. Mr Hawk only smile at Mika and thanked her

“Thank you young lady for saving my daughter…”

“Its cool, is just that….she’s pissing me off right now.” Mr Hawk wanted to explain but he realise something from here, where Nat could not socialise normally because of his regime training her to be quick with the academics.

“Well then Nat…go for it…you not just some book worm…”

“Got it dad…Alex leave this to me….”

“Babe, let me have a little chat with her for a while” Mariam is giggling right now as if she wanted it to happen. Amin just scratching his head right now, while Hardware is enjoying the show. Mr Hawk called me

“Hey kid…” looks like he wanted to talk to me personally. Why the hell its getting a lot of attention right now.

“I heard from Detective Tracy and Maruk that you have something going on, do you have the same dream again?” Mr Hawk is finding out what have happen.

“Did that guy….told you something?” I just wondering what Soro said to him.

“Oh hahahah that guy I wonder if he did test you before?”

“Darn it, yeah he did just now was the 2nd time he did that but at least I didn’t bleed from it”
