A Night at My House Part 1

“I don’t know that Marina-neesan is a friend with niisan!” said my sister excitedly.

“Me too! I don’t know that your brother is this man,” said Yamauchi-san.

“Do you want to know something? I am also quite surprised by this situation. Why I am the one who drives right now? Keiko, I thought you should be the one who drives. And why both you sit at behind?”

“You should understand your standing niisan! You are the only man here. You should accept your responsibility as our driver today. You are gentleman, right?” Keiko is trying to persuade me.

I swear I will left both at the roadside if possible. Who cares? I feel tired to counter their argument. If I can arrive at home safely, that only matters for me.

“Finally! Here is our home, Marina neesan! Welcome to our home!”

“Thank you for accepting me!” said Yamauchi-san.

I don’t know what is really happening right now but it seems Yamauchi-san will stay at my house for two days. I wonder how and when did my sister know Yamauchi-san.

“Kouta! Its been so long you are home! Wait, is she your girlfriend?” My mom said while pointing at Yamauchi-san.

“My name is Yamauchi Marina. Nice to meet you, obaa-san!”

“You are so polite! By any chance, are you still single? I really hope that you can marry my son!”

“Mom! What are you saying just now?!” I am shocked with mom’s sudden request.

“Sorry but I already have a boyfriend. Your son also seems to have a girlfriend now,” Yamauchi-san said while smirking at me.

“Really?! Why you don’t even bring your girlfriend here, Kouta?”

“Mom! Can we stop talking about this?”

I want to relax. I want to sleep. I feel tired right now and I just want to rest. Only that is my wish.

After dinner, I go directly to my room. I will spend my night playing my guitar. It has been a long time I have not touch this guitar. Usually, I try to not strum so hard to avoid noise especially during night. What song should I play tonight? As I was still pondering what to play, I can heard someone knocking on my door.

“Can you let me in?”

Its Yamauchi-san. What does she wants from me tonight?

“Come on, please answer me!”

“Okay! You can come in.”

“You can sit on my bed, Yamauchi-san.”

“Thank you.”

“So, what do you want from me?”

“I just want to have a talk with you.”

“About what?”

“Everything.”

“Everything? Can you specify a bit? I am quite busy tonight.” I am trying to chase her away so that I can watch anime peacefully.

“Busy? Did I disturb your privacy? I know that man always do that kind of things every night,” she said while smiling toward me.

“Not that one idiot! Come on! Can you tell me what you want talking about with me?”

“I just want to know what you are doing these days.”

“Why?”

“You know, after that night.”

“Just trying to adjust my life to the normal state.”

“Really?”

“How about you then?”

“I am trying to move on from that time. After that night, I feel like everything is over for me. I don’t even know what I am doing. But I don’t want to go through the same things twice. That’s why I am trying to think positively every day. I want to believe that my life always has its own meaning. My life starting to become more brighter when I met him, my boyfriend now.”

“So, you come here just to brag about your boyfriend?”

“No! Can’t you listen to me first?”

“So can you straight to the point?”

“I just want to say thank you,” Yamauchi-san said in soft voice.

“Why? I don’t remember I have did something that deserve thanks.”

“Of course. When I remember back that time, you didn’t really do something that amazing but just your presence in my life enough for me to take new step to new life.”

What is this? Why is she suddenly saying this?

“Are you fine, Yamauchi-san? Can you repeat again?”

“Of course! And don’t make me say that again, idiot!” she said while blushing.

“I understand. Don’t be so mad,” I tried to calm her down.

“How about your life now?”

“My life?”

“Yes.”

“There is nothing too much change as it just a year has passes since, we last met. I’m still remember that night until now.”

“You should forget about that! Why am I saying that to you that night?”

“The most unforgettable things that I can’t forget is that you said that you like me because I am resemble your ex-boyfriend a bit,” I said to Yamauchi-san while giving her a smirk.

“Forget about it now! let me use that guitar to knock your head , so you can lose your memory!”

I can see she looks so serious to knock my head.

“But what you said to me that night is enough to give me a push to have a confidence in myself.”

“Confidence?”

“When you said that you like me that time, I realized that although I don’t have anything special or talent, there is still someone who likes me. Since then, I trying to improve myself so that I can look better than before.”

“I don’t know that my word is being so helpful to you.”

“Yes, although I don’t like to being compared with that your sh**ty boyfriend.”

“Sorry about that! But sometimes, you act so like him that time,” she said while laughing.

I don’t know but I feel happy to see her enjoying herself like this. She has really changed. Before, there are times that she faked her laugh to make people around her not worry so much about her. Now, she is laughing so hard without worrying much about her surroundings.

“What are you thinking , Kouta? “

“N-nothing. I just thought that our meeting was changing our life.”

“Right? Maybe its our destiny to meet with each other so that we can change our life.”

Yes. And there is one thing that I regret after our destiny cross path with each other.

Why can’t I say that word during that night? Its not that I don’t like Aika-san but at least I can let out my past feeling to her. But again, as time passes, it feels so hard to say that. Maybe this is better for us.

“Do you feel happy with your new boyfriend, Yamauchi-san?”

“Yes! I think he is the one for me! He really loved me and treasured me. I feel so appreciated.”

“That’s good to hear.”

“How about you, Kouta?”

“It feels like a dream to have a girlfriend like her. I have always liked her since we first time met. I still can’t believe she confessed to me first. What can I say? She is my ideal woman for a long time,” I can’t stop bragging about Aika-san.

“I can see that you have found your own destiny woman. Kouta, can I make a song request for tonight?”

“Sure… wait! You call me Kouta?”

“Of course! Everyone in this house is Homura-san. To avoid confusion, it’s better to call you by your first name. You can call me Marina too if you want although I think you don’t dare to do it,” she said while looking at me.

“If that what you want, I gladly to call you, Marina.”

She looked surprised to hear me calling her name confidently.

“I didn’t think you will change so much like this.”

“Yes, and what is your song request, Marina?”

“Can you play Dry Flower? You will playing guitar and I will sing.”

“Roger.”

That night filled with Marina’s melodic voice and my relaxing strumming guitar. I hope the sun will not rise early so tonight will not end quickly.
