Chapter 11:
Kingdom of Light
It turns out none of my weapons have any effect on it, infusing them with darkness made a slight impact. I thought of attempting to increase the output of darkness, maybe that would inflict more damage. Having fought people like Agrai and Onyx you’d think I’d be better at dodging heavy attacks, apparently not as I was lost in thought the demon was able to land a hit knocking me backward, regaining my footing, my vision had decided to double. Its hits were comparable to Onyx, they had impact, just not as hard, I only noticed after my eyes readjusted that I was next to the spear which was unfortunate cause before I could reach for it the demon lunged forward with tremendous speed, forcing me to throw up my arms to tank the hit again. I conjure the dark power, I was right. I was able to push back against the demon, I had the edge until I saw what looked to be a person standing on top of the pile of gold, the demon took advantage of this and struck back, quickly regaining my footing the figure was gone, “Quit daydreaming and focus on the fight, I’d very much like my stuff back in one piece!” shouts Aurum, very encouraging. But I was starting to understand the attack pattern of the demon, being able to evade its attacks with somewhat ease as I came up with a new plan, turns out using too much of the dark power puts a strain on my body. The obvious plan would be to use the spear too although I don’t know how it works; I take advantage of the demon's powerful swing to push myself back while putting distance between the two of us, I was able to land near the spear. It seemed to understand what I was aiming for, regaining its composure its path was straight for me, fortunately for me I was closer to the spear. Before I could grab hold of the handle its head which was shaped like a rectangle shifted in shape to resemble an actual spearhead, its material looked like the strange black stone but opposite in color, it was white and warm to the touch, almost as if it had been freshly forged. The spear bore no response after it woke, I roll out of the way, to dodge the meaty hand of the demon before it probably took my head off clean, I swing the spear managing to graze its arm leaving a cut that gave off steam, the demon roars in anger. " You must feed it energy! The more the better!” Yells Aurum from the sidelines which she seemed to be great at doing, but she was right as soon as I poured my energy into it the spearhead began to give off a faint glow. I rear my arm back and aim the spear close to where I assumed the heart to be, I had to act quickly before the demon reached me, both energies worked within my body, I can feel every muscle in my right arm strain as I threw the spear at full force. The spear pierced the demon’s side, blowing a hole wide enough to kill it, It staggers on its feet until the wound heals, enraged it lets out a bellowing roar, Im playing defense again as I try to pour energy into the spear. My vision blurs, " I know I said the more the better but that doesn’t mean you feed it all your energy or you’ll pass out idiot!” Aurum yells over the demons thrashing. Unbeknownst to Caelus, another strange power began filling the spear, it was so little in amount he doesn’t notice. Just then the Demon is restrained by gold chains sprouting from the ground, over on the sides Aurum is seen having her hands raised poised at the creature, “ Go on, finish this so we can move on,” she says, Caelus understands, its do or die now, he positions himself a good distance away from the demon, aiming at its heart again he lets the spear fly. The demon breaks free from the chains as it runs straight for him, this time it blows an even bigger hole, the demon now had a large hole in its right side from the blow, it falls over after the impact had broken its momentum, the spear had left a crater in the wall. I head over to retrieve the container, it had stuck it inside its pocket which was surprising I didn’t know it had one, but it also spoke, and I understood it. " The demon’s body will decompose on its own in due time, let's get these back now,” Aurum explains walking around the corpse, " It spoke, something about a world and eating, what does that mean?” I ask Aurum who let emotion show for the first time I’ve known her, for a second, before regaining almost as quickly, her face faltered for a second until she decided to explain, " I don’t know, I’ll look into it for you but for now it's not important,” she leaves it at that walking toward what seemed to be an exit in with the container, it hadn’t spoken about wanting to eat cuisine from another world. It referred to itself with a name I couldn’t understand, followed by “Champion” and “world” and the last word was hard to make out so I kinda guessed. The path we had taken took us directly to the throne room, right behind the throne actually. The minister had placed the container back into its pedestal, " I’ll have to get a new glass casing for these two, thank you for helping us retrieve the spear and finding the first queens treasure, but if you would be so kind as to hand it back so I may put it where it belongs,” the Minster says, he had his hand extended before asking, I guess I was to give it to him when I arrived. I hand the spear over to the Minster, shortly after it left my grip the spearhead reverts into its rectangle shape confusing the both of us, " The spear will only activate to those who are capable of it, Caelus can keep it, we have no use for it anyway, “ Aurum says joining us from wherever she had gone. The Minster hands me the weapon back with no question although I would have to get used to wielding a spear now, one thing that didn’t add up was how the demon of that size was able to get into the cave unless it was someone else who stole the relic. " It had an accomplice, there's no way it could’ve gotten into the treasury with no sign of Haven being there, “ Aurum says sitting down on the throne, " I have a small file on a group of people that are connected to a string of robberies along with a few reports on them being a cult of some kind, one attempt has been on the vault but I was away so they were able to escape, I suspect they had the help of that demons magic. I’m sure someone of your caliber can handle this,” Aurum states smiling as she hands me the file given to her by the minister. The file was rather empty, a few papers about the robberies and one about the cult Aurum mentioned but nothing after that. It wasn’t mentioned in the file but Aurum had looked into it a bit on her own, she believed they occupied the western part of the kingdom, and so I head to the westernmost part of the kingdom, aside from Aurums suggestion there had been reports of strange sightings primarily in this area. Most of the buildings had their lights out, and one was run down with boards covering the front, as I walk near the buildings I stretch my arms. They still ached from the fight with the demon, it was tolerable, I reached a boarded building, with no specific plan in mind I go around knocking on the planks to see if anyones in, no response, lost in thought trying to think of what to do next the sound of someone speaking starles me back to the present. it came from behind the boards, " you, who are you, what do you want,” the voice whispers as if he doesn’t want anyone to know he was here. I think quickly about what I should say, if they are the ones who stole the spear maybe showing it to them would mean I’m one of them? I bring out the spear and to my surprise it worked, the planks had covered the door to make it seem like it wasn’t there, it opens up and the guy speaking to me pulls me inside, once in he closes the door. It was a run-down cafe, dimly illuminated by a candle. The guy wore a strange black coat with the same symbols as the demon, around his eyes were smudges of black makeup. " I can't believe you got the spear and met the champion! The others are waiting downstairs we better not keep them waiting Henry,” the guy calls me Henry? This must be his first time meeting this, “Henry”, he leads me to the back of the cafe, the seats worn out and the long wooden counter broken in half. The weird guy places his hand on a tile that sticks out from the dark wooded walls, a ruin appears on the back of his hand, as he emits the same dark energy I use, opening the passage below, he makes his way down and I follow. There seemed to be a lot more to this than we knew.
