Chapter 1:

Kin Hashimoto

Gold

100 Years Later...

"Kin, pass me the juice, will you?"

Mom's voice was faint due to Playboi Carti blasting from my airpods.

"Kin?"

Her voice came from the front seat. I took off my airpods, annoyed.

"What happened, Mom?"

"Hand me the juice next to you, will you?"

I reluctantly picked up the carton of orange juice and handed it over to her in the front seat.

"Thanks," she said, taking a sip from it.

The car bumped over a pothole as I sat back in my seat, putting my airpods back on and looking out the window. Sunlight fell on my face, 'Vamp Anthem' by Carti playing in my ears as I watched the landscapes pass by. The mountains were faintly visible in the distance now, we were getting close.

Suddenly, I felt my earphones being pulled out of my right ear. Sigh.

"Brother, what're you listening to in those?" asked my 12-year-old sister, Sakura. She was an annoying little thing.

"Pink Floyd," I said, pausing the music and grabbing the earphones from her. I resumed the song, lowering the volume a little. "Now shut up and stop annoying me, dipshit."

"Kin, watch your language!" asserted Mom from the front seat.

Dad stayed quiet, focusing on driving the car. He was a man of few words, one of the reasons why I admired him so much. Ever since I was a child he wouldn't scold me at all, no matter what I did. That's Mom's job, I guess.

Sakura scowled at me as she sat back in her seat, bored. I wouldn't be the one to give her attention.

A signboard to the resort in the mountains we'd booked passed by the window, displaying it was less than 60 miles away.

So this is a family vacation, huh? I wondered. My family wasn't exactly the vacation type, preferring to stay in the house during holidays and only occasionally heading out for outings in the city to watch movies or dine at fancy restaurants.

My sister was the sole reason for this vacation, she'd been begging for one for a while now due to her friends bragging about theirs in her class. My parents had agreed to take her if she got an A in her class, and somehow the dipshit managed to do it. I guess anything really is possible if you put your mind to it.

As the car drove by a patch of farmland, I noticed a man standing in the middle of the crops. Normally a random man would've been a normal sight, but this wasn't. The man was completely naked, and his body was covered in red paint that looked like blood. The strangest thing was, he was looking straight at me.

I quickly looked away, choosing to turn my attention away from this crazy person.

"What's wrong?" asked my sister, noticing my unease. "You look like you've seen a ghost."

"It's nothing," I replied, turning up the volume in my airpods.

I didn't know it then, but this was the last time I'd live a normal life with my family.

It was just the start of the madness that would drive my life to Hell.
