Chapter 10:

Lost

Wolves in Glass Houses

It was after school. I ran straight to the pines. Raina in my peripheral, already in wolf form. I shifted to greeting Cypress with my tail wagging slightly. He sniffed me. We ran in different directions. Cypress stayed at my side. I felt better more in control after hunting last night. My head felt clearer. It was easier to focus. I stopped suddenly. There was many people in the woods. Which was very strange. Me, and Cypress shift to human. Raina bounds toward us.

“What’s going on?” She asks. Cypress is in a torn green, and blue plaid shirt, and torn jeans. Raina is in black crop top, and black shorts. Are styles really are similar. Raina’s sniffing the air.

“Robin!” I hear someone call.

“Robin!” I hear another. Robin was Dan, and Debbie’s son. I babysat him on occasion. Something else me, and Raina had in common. Raina was Amy’s babysitter. I sniff the air, trying to make out a sent I know well.

“Jordan!” I call. Raina, and Cypress hang back a little.

“Can you find him?” He asks.

“Is Robin lost?” I ask Jordan.

“I thought that’s why you were out-“ Right you was shifting out here. He guesses. I can see the conclusion in his eyes. “Can you uses your senses to find him?” He says sounding like a concerned brother.

“You better not have told him about me!” Raina says furious.

“I didn’t.” I say not being able to help, but smirk. “But you just did.” She fumes. Hot headed as ever.

“Your secrets safe with me.” He says.

“I know. You kept Amy’s.” She says calmer now.

“What?” I ask.

“Later. Right now let’s find Robin.” He had went off to explore the woods, and never came back. We split off. Raina, and Jordan go alone. Cypress stays with me until I send him off to the right. I keep sniffing the air. I stayed in human form. I pass the baker at one point calling out his name. I keep focus. I get bits of it, but it’s mixed with everyone else’s. I manage to find a trail. I fallow it as quickly as I can. I pass Dan, and then Jordan’s dad. Then Julie, Cheryl’s mom, who glares at me.

“Robin!” I call out. It’s stronger. I think I’m close.

“Robin!” I call. If only he could howl.

“Char! Char!” I hear a faint breathless voice call.

“Robin!” I call. I should be right on top of him. I hear a scrapping sound. Someone catching their breath. I look down. Robin is hanging from a cliff. “Robin!” I call as I hear the scrapping sound of dirt as his hands slip.

“Charlotte!” I rush forward. Fear makes me shift. I grab onto his zip up jacket with my teeth. He cries out. Then I place him on the earth. He stairs at me with wide, black eyes. Confusion clear on his face. He wraps his arms around me. I shift human.

“Robin! What happened!” Julie calls. Then Raina, and Cypress fallow.

“Charlotte ran forward, and used her hand to grab my jacket before I could fall!” I sighed, relieved Robin would keep my secret.

“Come on Robin I’ll take you to your father.” Julie says.

“I’ll come with you!” Jordan says. “Good work Charlotte.” He says. Then he’s gone. It’s an hour later there’s a knock at my door.

“Yes?” I ask. Debbie’s there with a paper bag.

“Thank you!” She says. “This is for you. Like a weeks worth of burgers, and steak for four.” I grin a wolf-ish grin.
