Chapter 71:
Spice of life [Remake]
Matcha returned to the kitchen in tears. "She was so mean and scary," Matcha cried.
"Which one?" asked Zuina.
"The one with the sludge smeared on her head."
"Tis not sludge, but a rare full head of green hair. Madam Ookuma is quite likely to be our next Prime Minister in a year," Benihime stated.
"Ookuma!? No wonder Rika's in a tizzy, she once told me she hates her more than anyone," Waki stated.
"I don't blame her for feeling that way, I too despise that woman. My sister idolizes and even aides her at times," Zuina stated.
"I honestly don't know how she continues to grow her movement. Her policies are incredibly unpopular, yet with each election, her party inches closer and closer to a majority," Itsuki stated.
"And that is why I respect Madam Ookuma. While I don't agree on every position, she has my full and complete respect for defying the odds and steering her movement to victory. Why, I heard that just like me, she is attempting to prove her stubborn father wrong by becoming prime minister. With a motive similar to my own, I give my full respect to her," Benihime declared.
"I guess you're the only one then, I doubt Masaru would be a fan considering Ookuma doesn't think too highly of guys," Waki grumbled.
"I take it that you are not a supporter either?"
"Not in the slightest. I've heard bad things about that bitch from an underground journalist."
"Pray tell you don't take to heart the words of... Kabuki."
"Huh? Why's everyone talking about kabuki? You gonna see a play?" Mimi asked as she came in to grab a meal.
"I bet she's referring to that conspiracy theorist, Fubuki Dakota. Most of her detractors refer to her as "Kabuki Dakota". I myself think she's full of shit, but my mother's a hardcore believer," Matcha grumbled as she calmed down.
"What kind of stuff does she say about Ookuma?"
"Lies along the likes of accusing her of killing the scoundrel that ran away and killed himself after Madam Ookuma found out she was pregnant. And typical things like she rigs elections and murders foes behind the scenes. Lies to the highest degree, as while Madam Ookuma may have some controversial policies and views according to the masses, she is an honest woman that has risen to where she is through hard work. Why, I believe that despite the overwhelming negative press she receives, her message resonates as her movement continues to grow, why, her party has not lost a single seat or election ever since the party ran in the 2005 elections," Benihime stated.
"2005? If I recall correctly Ookuma's newly formed party won all the seats they contested, though I'd argue it was less due to their policies and more due to the atrocity," Zuina mumbled.
"Well, as much as I disagree with her, she is a customer and we must serve her, however, if she sends someone like Matcha back here in tears, I have no qualms with kicking her out," Masaru declared.
"Ah, perhaps Matcha would be a poor choice to serve Madam Ookuma and her party. She has an averse hatred for matcha tea," Benihime stated.
"Wait, THAT'S why she flipped out over me!?" Matcha shouted.
"Unfortunately it must have been a misunderstanding. I read in Madam Ookuma's bio that she developed her hatred for matcha due to being forced to perform the tea ceremony daily by her overbearing father. That is why she believes matcha should be outlawed."
"OUTLAWED!? That's just flat out radical! Who the hell is voting for that psycho and her party!?"
"I. As much as I initially disagreed, it seems the will of the people is beginning to speak otherwise. Madam Ookuma's party prevailed in the House of Councillor's election, setting the stage for her passage of legislation and ascension to prime minister next year. As a noble, I serve the will of the people, lest I face their just fury," Benihime stated as she left to bring drinks to Ookuma and her group.
"I think that Kabuki or Fubuki fellow's right. That woman's a monster," Mimi thought as she clutched her stomach.
...
In the luxury seating area, the representatives from other parties began to get in a vicious shouting match with Ookuma and her party.
"Everyone needs to calm down!" Reika shouted.
One of Ookuma's diehard supporters, Senior Commissioner Nakayama of the Tokyo metropolitan police, angrily turned towards Reika. "YUZUME! DON'T YOU DARE INTERRUPT MADAM OOKUMA'S DEBATE!" she screeched.
"Debate? That was a shouting match, and it's just common courtesy to quiet down."
"It seems you are still clouded with ignorance, Detective. It is necessary to make my point absolute and silence my opposition. Why, I dare argue their viewpoint is dangerous for our country. Why, just look at all the harm those degenerate things known as video games, anime, and manga have brought to our nation and planet. Even some degenerate novels and foods have also eroded our way of life," Ookuma calmly stated.
"Oh? I thought it was because you just personally hate those things and enjoy watching people suffer. You seemed to have quite the sadistic smile when you watched your ex-husband get murdered by your order, or when you sliced a young woman with a knife while walking in-"
"Those are disproved fakes spread by conspiracy theorist Kabuki Dakota. It saddens me that Tokyo's most esteemed detective is brainwashed by such deception."
"We both know that's bullshit. So tell me, where's your daughter you've been "courageously" raising this whole time? Does she even exist? And if she does-"
"Mao is growing up to be a fine young woman. She will turn 15 in just a few short weeks."
"15 already, so why hasn't she been seen in public?"
"You should know. Just look at how many of my opposition's bloodthirsty savages roam the streets. It would be dangerous to let Mao go out until she has matured to where she can defend herself with ease."
"Ara? And she can't even go to school?"
"She has received private tutoring. After all, I have yet to reform our nation's education curriculum."
"I'm not going to let you. I WILL expose you and bring you to justice."
"Well then Detective, when I become Prime Minister in a year and my dear friend Senior Commissioner Nakayama becomes Superintendent general, you'll be tried for all your crimes-"
"That you'll cook up to convict me of? I know how you work."
"INSOLENCE! YUZUME YOU'RE-"
"If you fire me, I shall become more powerful than you could ever imagine."
Nakayama froze as Ookuma calmly rose and tapped her on the shoulder. "It is not your fault, Senior Commissioner. She was uninvited, but I allowed her to stay and say her piece. Though now, you must leave, Detective Reika Yuzume."
"Th- Then I will ensure she is punished. YUZUME! HANDS BEHIND YOUR BACK!" Nakayama roared as she pinned Reika violently to the wall and cuffed her.
"I WILL be filling a misconduct claim against you," Reika glared as Nkayama marched her out.
"You say MY supporters are violent!? Yours are the barbarians!" one of Ookuma's detractors glared as he rose.
"Could one of the guards please escort the rats out?" Ookuma sneered.
...
Outside, the opposition politicians all got into their rides.
Nakayama meanwhile shoved Reika into her squad car before driving off. "You will pay for making me cut my dinner with Madam Ookuma short!" she seethed.
"And you will get suspended for breaking my nose and violently arresting me for no justifiable reason," Reika glared.
"Then I'll simply not file charges."
"Ara? So then I can walk free once I'm back at the station?"
"NO! In fact, I'll swamp you with paperwork! I won't allow you to just leave and harass Madam Ookuma again!"
...
"Here is your order in a to-go box as requested, Madam Ookuma," Benihime bowed as she entered the luxury seating area.
"Chef Shinohime, could I trouble you to fetch the manager so I can have a private discussion with her once the establishment is closed?" Ookuma asked as her group finished eating.
"Not at all Madam Ookuma, I shall fetch the restaurant's manager."
...
Benihime returned a few minutes later with her head hung low. "My deepest apologies, but our managers will be unable to grant you an audience until we have closed," she stated.
"Not to worry. You are merely the messenger. You need not worry, we will wait out the hour," Ookuma nodded.
"Very well. I shall inform the manager immediately."
Benihime then returned to the kitchen and told Masaru about what had happened. "I understand. Please take the rest of the night off then," Masaru nodded.
"Huh!? But I can still work, and we are still open for another hour!" Benihime protested.
"You need to rest."
"...Very well, I shall begrudgingly take my leave."
...
Masaru took a deep breath as he approached the luxury seating area. "Rika mentioned how Ookuma tricked her into committing some kind of atrocity. Considering Benihime might react hostily towards Rika if she learned of her assasin roots, it was a good move to make her leave work early. I just hope whatever Ookuma requests is not troublesome," he thought as he entered the luxury seating area.
Ookuma immediately shot him a cold glare as he stood before her and her group."And where is Chef Komachi?" Ookuma glared.
"Apologies, but she has left for the night. Since I am also one of the managers I-"
"Fetch her NOW!"
"I cannot, for she is not here."
"Do you want to be charged with sexually assaulting one of my colleagues?" Ookuma sneered as she signaled her guards to surround Masaru.
"I beg your pardon- MMPH!?"
Ookuma's guards immediately restrained Masaru and covered his mouth, as he stared in horror at the snickering Ookuma and her followers.
"Why do you look surprised? I control this room, and therefore the narrative of all the events that take place within. Now ladies, did this foul degenerate attempt to force himself on us?" Ookuma maliciously asked.
"Yes, Madam Ookuma," the room sneered in unison.
"Correct, and did one of our brave guards shoot the bastard dead to protect the life of her client?" Ookuma sneered as one of the guards pulled out her gun and pressed it into the side of Masaru's head.
"Yes, Madam Ookuma," the room maliciously giggled in unison.
"Correct. What a shame. He was billed as a prodigious chef, but was nothing but a vicious sexual predator. Segawa-san, if you please rip your shirt and scream on 4. Ready? 4,3,2,1-"
"AHHHHHHHHHHHHH!"
Ookuma sighed, but maintained her composure as her follows creamed in terror as the arm and head of the guard that had been pointing her gun at Masaru flew towards Ookuma. Ookuma caught the severed head and used it to block the bullets fired from the gun an enraged Rika had confiscated. Rika then prepared to unleash a knife slash with her other hand, but was effortlessly countered by Ookuma.
"So it seems dear Hannya was here after all," Ookuma sneered as she threw Rika back into the wall, nearly sending her through it.
Ookuma then retrieved Rika and slammed her face down into the table faster than the eye could see. One guard nervously brought the restrained Masaru forward as the remaining guards immediately pounced on Rika while Ookuma held her down.
"My, it seems like you were chained up in the back," Ookuma sneered as she ripped the tape off Rika's mouth.
"I'LL KILL YOU YOU BITCH!" Rika roared.
"No, you're going to help with my campaign. Just as you did back in 2005," Ookuma maliciously smiled.
"I'LL NEVER COMMIT SUCH ATROCITIES AGAIN!" Rika seethed with fury.
Ookuma clicked her tongue and pulled out a syringe. She immediately jabbed it into Rika's neck as Rika grimaced in pain.
"This will keep you in place," Ookuma sneered as the guards immediately got off Rika.
Rika's body immediately went limp causing her face to get a little paler with fear.
"Now, you can't fight back. Now listen closely; Korosekai, you're to join my supporters and aid them in "convincing" the good people of these districts to elect my chosen candidates for the big election next year," Ookuma sneered as she flashed her phone before Rika.
"And if I don't!?" Rika glared.
"Then Masaru Ryono will be arrested for sexually assaulting my colleague Segawa-san."
"BULLSHIT! Masaru didn't-"
"Of course he didn't, but I control the room. 20 women, aside from myself and Segawa-san, that are aligned with my cause are present in this room. In a court of law, will the jury believe the account of 2 or 22? I strongly believe 22," Ookuma sneered as Segawa happily ripped up her clothing to make it look as though she had been assaulted.
The guards then positioned Masaru to make it look as though they were restraining him after he assaulted Segawa, while another one of Ookuma's colleagues took a photograph.
"And now, I have my evidence. Be thankful that the bill was pre-paid, for if not I would have raised a commotion. You will be at the designated place in a week," Ookuma sneered as she grabbed all the to-go boxes of the food she ordered and left with her guards and colleagues.
The restaurant had closed so no customers were present when Ookuma and her entourage walked out. Most of the staff had also left, however, Mimi was still there cleaning tables. Upon seeing her, Ookuma froze and ordered her guards to restrain her and check her stomach.
"Wah!? What are you doing!?" Mimi cried as a guard lifted up her shirt.
Ookuma gazed intently at Mimi's stomach. "No scar, perhaps I was just paranoid," Ookuma mumbled as she signaled her guards to release Mimi.
Once Ookuma and her group had left, Mimi immediately ran into the luxury area and found a trembling Masaru and a shell shocked Rika.
"Ri- Rika, wh- what was all that?" Masaru trembled.
"The one person I want to kill more than anyone," Rika glared as she laid on the table.
"S- She tried to kill me!"
"That's just how vile that bitch is."
Waki, Itsuki, Matcha and Zuina immediately ran into the room and surveyed the damage with Mimi. "Rika, what happened!?" they all shouted.
"Well, that piece of shit messed me up and nearly killed Masaru. You're lucky I was able to break out of that duct tape you tied me up with," Rika glared.
Everyone was taken aback by Rika's anger and animosity. No one present had ever seen her in such a state of anger.
"Ri- Rika, why are you so angry? Just what exactly did that woman make you do that made you hate her so much? All you mentioned back when you told your life story was that she tricked you into killing a bunch of people, but you never elaborated on it. Could you please enlighten us? I don't want you to hide anymore secrets," Masaru stated.
Rika's anger subsided a bit as she let out a huge sigh. "I guess you all deserve to know, you and Mimi especially considering what that bitch has done to you both. I honestly never wanted this tale to ever leave my lips, but seems I've got no choice. Well first move me to a more secure location. Last thing I need is for a bug to record my greatest sin ever."
