Chapter 6:
Where Am I?
After several days had passed, I made a conscious effort to attend all of my classes and meticulously search for myself, but to no avail. I couldn't find any trace of her after class. In a desperate attempt, I even lingered in the library, hoping to catch a glimpse of myself with another young lady, but my efforts were in vain.
Growing increasingly concerned, I began to question the reliability of my own memory. I distinctly remembered conversing with my classmate, who I suspected might be involved in a murder. However, I started to doubt whether my recollection was accurate. Perhaps the incident occurred elsewhere in the school, and I simply couldn't remember.
Regardless of the uncertainty, I felt an overwhelming urge to leave the library early and embark on a search for myself. I was convinced that I must be somewhere out there, possibly accompanied by that woman. I couldn't afford to idly wait and do nothing while seeking justice.
Just as I was about to rise from my seat, I froze in astonishment, my eyes widening at the sight before me. I had stumbled upon something intriguing. Suppressing a gasp, I discreetly observed myself entering the library alongside the other woman, who could potentially be my classmate and the suspected murderer.
She had freckles adorning her cheeks and sported short hair. I noticed her whispering to myself as we walked past the librarian's desk. Now, my objective was clear - I had to tail her and discover the location of her dormitory. Assuming the guise of reading a book, I surreptitiously monitored her every move, ensuring I remained undetected.
Now when I stood by the other side of the shelf, I was sure to listen in on their conversation. “This amulet can shield you from death!” My classmate whispered.
“Oh, really?!” My previous self whispered back in energy.
“Yea, of course, it would. But I can make you immortal at the well tomorrow.”
Tomorrow…at the well?! Could she be that murder?! Widening my eyes, my memories of my murder were flooding my mind once more with her face still blurry at the moment.
“Really?! You could do that for me?!”
“Sure as long as you guarantee to bring the ornament to me.”
“Okay. Deal!” Eventually, I witnessed them leaving the library. A smirk formed on my face; this was my chance to trail her.
I walked, step by step, following them until they halted in a corridor junction. I halted as well, observing them bid each other farewell with a wave before parting ways. Turning in the opposite direction, I continued to tail my suspect until I witnessed her entering her own dormitory.
Finally, I had uncovered the whereabouts of her dormitory. Now, all that remained was to patiently wait for her to leave, seizing the opportunity to search for clues. They had to be hidden within those walls. They simply had to be.
After observing her departure from the dormitory, I cautiously surveyed the hallway in both directions and silently recited a spell in my mind to ascertain whether her roommate was present. Discovering that she was absent, an opportunity presented itself for me to enter the room.
With determination, I proceeded to enter the room, only to realize that the door was locked. This left me with no alternative but to employ my magical abilities to pick the lock. After once again ensuring that no one was watching me, I directed my focus towards the doorknob and whispered the incantation discreetly. As the doorknob emitted a faint, purplish glow, I cautiously turned it, hoping that my spell had succeeded.
To my relief, the door opened, and I allowed myself a small smirk before stepping into the room. As I surveyed my surroundings, I noticed that this room, much like my previous dorm, was impeccably clean. The room was enveloped in silence, with the translucent purple curtains obstructing the majority of sunlight from entering. Intrigued, I approached the curtains, pondering the reason behind the room's dimness.
Upon lifting the curtains, I was greeted with a clearer view of the room, prompting me to proceed with my task. I meticulously searched every corner of the room, yet my efforts proved fruitless. However, memories of the individual who had caused my demise resurfaced in my mind. Despite the haziness of her face, an inner voice urged me to continue searching. Although doubtful, I resisted the temptation to give up, until I accidentally stumbled upon a concealed door beneath my feet.
Startled, I lifted the rug covering the secret entrance and cautiously opened the door. What I discovered inside left me utterly shocked, causing me to gasp and widen my eyes, my gaze shifting slightly to the side.
Within the hidden compartment, I found nothing but numerous photographs of myself and my classmate, along with a notebook. As I examined one of the photos, I couldn't help but shudder, my grip on it tightening involuntarily. To my dismay, there were red X marks on my face in each of the photographs, while my classmate remained unscathed.
No way! This woman has marked my face with some X's. She is undoubtedly the one responsible for this, but what could be her real motive for wanting the amulet?
I carefully placed the photo back in its container and picked up the notebook, flipping through the pages until I finally found a motive that had been written in it the previous day. It stated:
"I cannot wait to become the dark queen once I eliminate Elona. I will make sure that amulet is mine, and I already have a plan to get rid of her once and for all."
I needed to remove this motive and warn Elona about this classmate. So, I searched for something to cut it out with and noticed a pair of scissors on a nearby desk. I used the scissors to carefully cut out the page.
Once that was done, I wrote a warning on the back of the page since it was completely blank. I also took a few photos with me and returned the notebook to its secret container, leaving the dorm for good.
I immediately made my way back to Elona's dorm to give her the evidence before she returned. Upon arriving, I checked to see if her roommate was present. Sensing her presence, I approached the door and knocked.
"Oh, hello there. How can I assist you? If you're looking for Elona, she's not here," my former roommate said.
"Well, that's too bad. I was about to give her these," I handed her the items in my hands.
"Hmm? What is this?" She asked, raising an eyebrow as she closely examined the evidence. She took it from my hands and studied it intently.
"It's prove that appears Elona is in a threat from one of her classmates."
Gasping, her eyes widened in disbelief. "I see..." At that point, she turned her consideration back to me and gave me a genuine face. "Alright, I will inform Elona about this. Thank you for the warning."
"No problem." After exchanging waves with my former roommate, I watched her enter the dorm while I made my way back to mine.
Upon my return to the dormitory, a smirk formed on my face as I leaned against the wall. It was truly unbelievable. I had accomplished it. I had successfully achieved my goal. Now, the only thing left was to figure out what my next move would be.
Peeking through the slightly ajar door, I kept a watchful eye for my former self's return to the dormitory. Once I spotted her, I patiently waited to see if she would confront me or not. This was my chance to at last be free.
When she finally emerged, I discreetly followed her, ensuring that my previous self remained oblivious to my presence. We came across a classmate walking alone in the darkness and silently trailed behind them towards the well. We saw her casting some sort of dark spell in it.
The moment my former self forcefully pushed our classmate into the well, I vanished from sight. With a smile on my face, knowing that I would now live on, I shed my identity as Alissa and embraced my true self as Elona. I couldn't have been happier, knowing that my classmate would never be able to harm me again.
