Chapter 35:
The Honest Warrior in a World of Lies
Makoto, Chihiro, Ryu and Shiro walked through the forest North of the Apex Palace. They had been walking for a while, when they reached a very old village near the beach. It was in absolute shambles, and seemed to have been in that way for a least a few decades.
"Shiro, are you sure this is the right place?" Makoto asked, looking around. "It looks kinda... dead."
The houses were all broken down, and parts of them were burnt pretty badly. The roofs looked like they had been drop-kicked, and Makoto couldn't see any living thing in the whole village except for himself and the others.
Shiro nodded. "I know, but trust me; this is the right place," he said with a wink.
When the group got to the center of the broken village, Shiro told the others to stay a bit behind him. "Only I can do this next part," he said. "I wouldn't want any of you getting hurt because you scared her, after all." Makoto tilted his head in confusion. "Uh, who's her?"
But before he could get an answer, Shiro cupped his hands around his mouth and called:
"Marjat, Marjat. Come out and play!"
Suddenly, there was a rumble from inside one of the houses. A strong wind blew around the group for a few seconds, then stopped just as suddenly as it had started. And in it's place was, seemingly, nothing, until a sudden wind whipped through them, and ended in front of Shiro.
But that wind wasn't a wind, it was...
"A GH-GHOST?????"
Makoto, Ryu and Chihiro screamed and fell backwards onto their butts. "W-W-What is a ghost doing here???" Chihiro whimpered as he clung to his older brother's arm.
The ghost girl that stood in front of them crossed her arms and looked at Shiro. She seemed to have been wearing a white dress at the time of her death, but the left sleeve had been torn off, her brown hair was frayed in every direction, and she had just socks on. "What do you want this time, Alus?" She said in a voice that could only be described as semi-transparent. "Heh, Marjat," Shiro chuckled, "I know that's what you used to call me, but uhhm..."
Shiro went a bit closer to Marjat and whispered something to her. She nodded, and Shiro stepped backwards, turning to face the group. "Alright, there's no need to be scared," Shiro said, "this is Marjat; I know her, and trust me, she means no harm."
Makoto, Chihiro and Ryu looked at Marjat, still quite shocked, but not as scared anymore. Makoto stood up and took a cautious step towards her, before jumping backwards when she floated forward and squinted at him. "EEK!" He shouted.
"Hmmm," Marjat mused. "I sense that the Master of those Dark Flames would fear this one," she said, taping her chin and pointing at Makoto.
"U-Uh," Makoto stammered, "who's the Master of the Dark Flames?" 'That person sounds scarier than the Abyss King!!' He thought.
"That's just what she calls," Shiro leaned forward and whispered, "the Abyss King. You see, he burnt down this village around 50 years ago, and well, now she hates him with a passion."
Marjat swooshed away from Makoto and next to a house not to far away. "I guess you brought them so I could teach them what I taught you, huh, Shiro?"
"Mhm," Shiro said as he nodded 'yes'. "I mean, even without Ruusu, I sure you can still teach them quite a bit of good techniques, right?" Marjat nodded, and swooshed back in front of the group.
"Alright then," she said, uncrossing her arms. "I guess I'll be teaching you three for a bitー"
"Heya~!" A cute, high-pitched voice suddenly said. 'Who's that?' Makoto thought as he turned around, and saw...
