Chapter 2:
Tasha Lake and the heart of the ocean
Hi Taurin.” The teacher's voice was soft and happy, a little too happy “Why not every one in the class say hi Taurin.” She said her happy smile getting creepier
“Haven’t you ever thought he doesn’t want his name shouted through the class, cause I sure didn’t when I joined.” I complained. I saw his shoulders relax a tiny bit.
A nod in my direction.
“Ok, you can sit in the back of the class with Tasha.” The Teacher pointed to the back of the class, like she was guiding a two year old

Later at lunch I was spooning apple sause into my mouth. I watched this Taurin. I tryed not to stare though he came over after getting bumped around. He kind of reminded me of a Koi fish, in a way, the soft silky hair, the black and white and those bright green eyes…
The rest of the day passed like icing a cake. Swimming was next, surely Koi Boy was not in swimming. I jumped into the water in joy. My legs felt as if they were threading together, stiking, I tryed to unstick them. I was sinking.
“I think I have a cramp.” I said trying to make it look like I was in pain, though I wasn’t.
***
“Mom,” I warned “I’m going to bed, I had a long day.” I said as I raced to the window. I searched for a while before deciding I was going out to look.
***
I looked around and watching where I put my bare foot. I spotted a human off in the shadows they jumped in the ocean with such grace, as if they had done it so many times that it was that easy. I watched the water and waited for them to come back. They did not. I rolled up my pants. I stepped into the cold crisp water. I tryed to swim, it didn’t work. It was like my legs were trying to stick together. I tryed to make it work. It Did Not.
I was trying to swim back when I started to sink! I screemed as bubbles were escaping. Someone grabbed me, no some-thing. We went flying in the air when I realized how far I had swam. It was letting me have air?
It had an arm around my waist. I looked down to my waist. My arms were locked tight on this arm. I spotted a long white tail with black spots and a green stripe all the way down the left side of the tail. Shimmering green sparkled in the moon light. It felt as if I was a test Dummy on a new invented roller-coaster.
We landed back into the water with a splash. We flew up again each time we did it I enjoyed it more. Until I expected more excitement but instead I hit dirt and grass
“Ouch!” I cried in pain. I glanced in his direction but he was already gone by the time I turned my head. I looked into the rippling ocean.
Seconds later mom came running out to help me up.
“Oh, sweety are you ok?” Mom sounded concerned.
“Yea, it hurts a little.” I looked back at the water rippling away. I didn’t really care about the scrape, I wanted to know who that was.
Mom had placed me on the couch. I rolled over to see mom.
“Mom, who moved in next door?” I ask
“Oh, I forgot to tell you, we are going over to meat them tomorrow.” Mom replied cheerfully. A deep pit fell in my stomach. I rolled back over.
“My book group is arriving in about ten minutes,” She continued “You get your wish, you can sleep on the couch tonight.
***
I kind of wanted to go in my room. Moms book group was more like gossip, wine drinking, food eating group. They never even said the word book. I sat in silence wondering if they ever shut-up. I instantly regretted begging mom all those times for wanting to join.
***
The next day I jumped into the bus, hoping he picked a different seat to sit in. Nope.
I walked to my seat/ now shared with a thief
“Do you know I like the window seat?” I snapped.
A nod then raised his hands in surrender.
“Thank you.” I said in my most thankful tone, it was a bit sassy but who cared, I sure didn’t.
He was shuffling out when the driver surreptitiously hit the gas peddle hard then the break.
He slammed the two kids who weren’t seated slamming into each other. My face turned red with rage. I was going to get revenge on the bus driver. I sat at last by the window, also known as my favorite spot—every one should know that.
***
As soon as we arrived at the school I headed straight for the principal office. I did a light tap on the door. I noticed Koi Boy had followed me up to the principal’s office. The door opened
“What did you do this time, Tasha?” His face fell to a flat frown
“The bus driver, Carl tried to kill me!” I blurred out.
“Do you have any proof? Or is this just you showing your power?”
“No, I have…” I stoped, what proof did I have? Everyone else on the bus would rather me suffer, there are downs to being the best person in class. Taurin was trying to get my attention.
“What?”
He pointed at me then gave a nod.
“You saying she’s telling the truth?”
A nod
“I’ll bring him in, come back here at about noon,” He continued “Both of you.”
A nod. Then we wandered back to our class room.
***
I sat in the waiting chairs at swimming lessons. I spotted Taraun was seated on the other side of the room, just watching. His green shiny eyes sparkled in the dim pool room.
“Alright, Tasha your up.” Coach shouted.
I jumped into the cool crisp water. I started to feal my legs glueing together. I started to sink to the bottom Taraun ran to the edge He grabbed my hand, he was really, really strong! He pulled me out and began to dry me off with a towel. My eyes split wide open at the sight of this. My legs felt normal again. After a few minutes he helped me stand, I was wobbly. I found that the reason that, Koi Boy Taraun had to save me was because Couch was on lunch break, with KIDS IN THE POOL!
