Chapter 1:
The Game of Life and Death at Heiya High School
Entry; Day 3
The afterlife is filled with spirits, yet only some of them seem to be alive.
Yet the war of the reincarnated at Heiya High School raged on, between the factions, led by reincarnated humans holding immense power and abilities. These humans had come from all walks of past lives, but most shared a common characteristic. Their life and death had been unfair, and since I felt pity on them, decided to create a new world for the most-deserving to have another chance at life.
It seems to be my job now, as I, as great as I was, have now fallen out of the favor of Death, and that wretch has now sent me to do this menial task! Does he not take pity on me?
“This is a game”, Death told me sternly. I paid no heed. The first time I ran this, nearly all humans had died within the first month. I knew I had to put on a show or else I would actually be punished even worse by Death.
I drafted a document regarding the game to all those who passed me, which I simply would hand to them without a word:
“Rules:
I’ll give you 1-3 abilities and a weapon.
There will be students there that are NPCs, they can be killed, but will respawn within 24 hours with no recollection of their memories.
Same goes for the teachers
You may destroy the school, but the school will rebuild itself 10 hours after its destruction.
Human students will be recognizable by their uniform. It will be dark black, whereas the NPCs will have light brown uniforms.
If you would like to live, you must find and take the heart out of the Kyou Mizuki
Swallow it
You go free
However, if you die, there will be no second chance. You will forever be trapped, floating in dark space.
From,
Mr. Supervisor
At the service of Death and Co.”
The reincarnated, after all, are in few, but the students are plenty. After all, those “students” are there just to simply exist, nothing more. A more modern term would be an “NPC”. The leading humans, then, are easily able to manipulate these students into fighting minions. If a minion had fallen, they would simply stand back up in a day or so, with their previous memories erased.
And how about the teachers, one may ask?
They simply appear when needed and disappear soon after classes end. Even if there was commotion when they were present, one could simply kill them. After all, they can’t do anything to prevent the humans from total annihilation.
Now, back to the matter at hand.
The war at Heiya High School started after a meticulously planned rebellion to overthrow the student president. After all, President Kyou Mizuki wasn’t even human. Yet all reincarnated humans knew that she had the key to being reborn back to Earth. Although Mizuki was plain-looking, everyone knew that I had planted the jade seal deep inside her heart, and if you were able to cut her open and swallow that seal, you were given the chance to be reborn into the real world once again.
It was around a month after the first humans were sent to Heiya High School when one of the humans first decided to steal the jade seal.
Izumi Hara, a boy with long-flowing raven-like hair, slim and average height, was the first to act. If it was not for his voice, one could easily mistake him for a woman. In his past life, this boy had been a university medical student, with an IQ of nearly 180. Although he could have had a fulfilling life in the real world, he owed a large student debt for his undergraduate studies, so when he fell sick from overworking, he could not afford any medicine. So there he laid in his apartment, coughing up a mixture of phlegm and blood for five days and nights before finally succumbing to his illness.
When Mr. Hara arrived, I simply told him the premise, and sent him on his way. He seemed to be a soft-spoken individual, but I could sense that he held immense power. I gave him the rules, and when he simply gave me a nod, it was on to the next step. I sent him abilities and a weapon that I felt best suited him.
“For you, Mr. Hara, you will be given the “Arms of Heaven”. When you wear these gloves, you will be able to shoot hot sparks of yellow lightning. Better yet, your ability will be to easily manipulate only the male students. With a sharp tongue, I shall send you on your way”
I was proud of my imagination, and it seemed that Mr. Hara agreed to this, so I bade him farewell from my throne and sent him on his way.
The next few days went peacefully, so much so that I lost track of Mr. Hara’s progress. I had also introduced several new humans, around fifty or so, but most were unremarkable by Mr. Hara’s standards, and I soon forgot about them. By Day Three, however, Mr. Hara had already amassed a large crowd of nearly all the males by his side. Mr. Hara had already started a path of destruction. His hot lightning bolts had made him incredibly overpowered compared to the other humans that went in, and Mr. Hara simply shot hot lightning into the hearts of those who were against him, forcing around five of them to join his side. The other five went into hiding in the school. But Mr. Hara sent his minions to find each individual one, and captured them. Then, if they decided not to join Mr. Hara, he would simply shoot a bolt into them, and that was game over for them. Some however, did join Mr. Hara, and eventually he had around five subordinates at his side, many of whom dutifully carried out operations of hunting down other humans.
It was around this time when I was forced to intervene, and give those still hiding some advantages. I found a group of five humans who were hiding in a furnace in the school basement. I recognized only two of them by name, Chika Itsuka and Takuichi Koga. Ms. Itsuka I remembered because in her past life she had been the daughter of a parliament member, before being beheaded by a mafia boss because her father could not pay his gambling debts. Mr. Koga I remembered for his death, which I laughed at him before I sent him to the high school. He had been a playboy, the son of a successful business owner. Mr. Koga spent all his days lounging around drinking and partying, before eventually also being shot by a lowlifer for being in bed with the latter’s girl.
Ironic, huh? The two victims of the mafia working together, attempting to survive the madness of Mr. Hara.
“How you enjoying the game so far, Mr. Koga and Ms. Itsuka?”
“This ain’t a game, cut the crap, you're just a sadistic god who wants us to die! Mr. Hara has the abilities of a demi-god. None of us can stop him, especially with the bullshit that you’ve given us.” Ms. Itsuka roared.
“Very well, I said. “Behold! Ms. Itsuka, take this large cutlass!” The cutlass was nearly the size of Ms. Itsuka, but I made it so that even her skinny frame could wield it.
“And you, Mr. Koga! I shall give you the ability to live longer. You may survive eight fatal hits before succumbing to death! Even seven shots to the heart, you’ll feel no pain!”
I didn’t want to hear the barrage of insults they might have given me, so I quickly vanished and waited to see what they would do next.
I supposed this would be the end of the day, but then came some of the most memorable people I ever met.
