Chapter 4:

Somehow, I felt it wasn’t bad at all

Ghost Girl

Nightmare 04 – Somehow, I felt it wasn’t bad at all

Chairs were lined up in rows, which continued to rise in a slanting position filling most of the structure where I currently reside. In the center front, a monitor was big enough for the whole place. Looking at it for a moment, I recognized that it was a cinema.

I was sitting on one of the chairs gazing at the screen. There was no video playing so it was natural that everything inside this place was dim. There was no one beside me as well.

Why am I here?

“Why am I here?”

I jumped in my seat, startled not because someone had just spoken my thoughts. It was because of that "someone." Her voice was echoing loudly and I could feel shivers when I heard it. I shifted my vision to my left.

And like what had I expected, there she was, sitting beside me.

The girl in white.

“Why are you here?” she asked maliciously as she noticed me. She emitted a blood-lusting aura as she started to stand up.

I was still shocked to see her again, but I did not let it stop me from keeping my distance. I had retreated a few meters away from her when she had completely stood up. From my position, I asked her.

“Are you going to kill me again?”

I remember the nightmare last night. This was undoubtedly the same girl. I didn't know why I was meeting her again like this but if her attitude were like before, then she would try to kill me again.

“I killed you already.” It was a hardcore sentence for her to say bluntly. “Why are you still alive?”

Apparently, this was a continuation of the first nightmare. But unlike it where there was a light post, this time in this dim place, I could clearly see that she was glowing slightly. Her height and everything about her were the same. She also had the memories of killing me, while I, as well, had the memories of dying.

However, she seemed unaware that we were just in a world of fantasy, a product of mind. Should I tell her that I am only in a nightmare?

“If you won’t answer then I just have to kill you again.” A knife suddenly appeared in her right hand as if it was produced out of thin air, just like how she did yesterday. She clutched onto it tightly as she walked forward.

“Hey, wa-wait! Why do you want to kill me?” I asked frantically.

“I will kill you.”

It's no use. She isn't answering my questions… Damn it!

I was constantly stepping back to keep my distance from her. If she were to be in the strike zone, I would probably be killed immediately.

Isn't she supposed to help me recover my memories…? The thought occurred to me. At the same time, I also thought that it was pretty unreasonable to expect help from someone who wanted to kill me.

"Say." I stopped retreating and just stood still in my place. “Can you just answer a single question then? If you do, I shall offer my head to you.”

“……” The girl stopped walking.

I doubt I could get any answers from her anyway. But if I do this, she might just at least give me consideration.

She stood there silently, her hair still. The white gown she wore was in perfect white without any stain or sign of dirt. And without any change, her face as well, remained emotionless. If it were on a scale out of ten, one would probably think that she was a creep or an eerie person. The rest would think she's either a ghost or a monster.

The cinema was in a silent, cold atmosphere.

I let out a deep breath.

“…Do I know you?”

As soon as I said that—

The ground and the building shook. The cold temperature went freezing. I heard the concrete walls cracking and saw the screen breaking apart. Suddenly, all the chairs floated in the air.

The ground vibrated strongly. I crouched on one knee as I lifted my neck to see the girl in front.

What is…happening…? Is she doing this?

“…You… You seriously joked about that?”

Her voice was endearing yet unearthly. It was sad.

All of my hair stood, and my instinct was screaming to run away right now. But my body refused to move as if I was petrified in place. Her voice indicated anger and wrath upon me. Her bloodlust was intense more than ever.

I could feel her eyes piercing at me as she uttered heavy words.

“Did you…really?”

A loud sound erupted. And before I noticed it, the ceiling had been already gone, the sky beyond it was nothing but darkness. The walls started crumbling too, and the floating chairs smashed themselves upon one another, and just after a moment, the cinema had vanished without a trace.

The only source of light, was ironically, the girl who was made by darkness.

She had caused this disaster—a monster who inflicted death and destruction.

Yet why?

"Did you really… forget about me?"

Why do you always seem so sad?

The world of darkness stilled and I stood up to approach her. I extended my hand to hold her as I spoke, “Hey… Are you alri—”

“I’m fine.” She smiled devilishly. Her sad expression vanished. “I should be asking that to you instead, you know?"

My words, along with my right hand—was cut.

“Ahh! My hand…!” I shouted, blood gushing out from my severed hand.

“Does it hurt?” She asked mockingly. "However, your pain could not compare to the pain I feel."

It hurt… However, seeing her suffering brought me a different kind of pain as well.

“I am, right now, close to breaking.”

She slowly pushed the tip of her knife into my stomach.

"Can you imagine someone you love telling you that he had forgotten about you?"

I could feel the cold metal entering, and piercing my insides.

“I have waited for you…” The blade, from tip to the base, penetrated me. And as I coughed blood, she put her hands around me. It was firm, more of a hold rather than a hug. She squeezed me with all her strength. “Death would not even compare to this.”

For some reason, the pain from my severed hand and pierced stomach disappeared and I could not feel anything but coldness.

“……” It seemed like speaking was beyond my capability now. My mouth moved to form the words but no sound came.

The girl continued hugging me. “If we cannot be together in this world then surely, it would work out in the next one.”

Her silent whisper floated in the darkness. Even while my consciousness drifted, I could still hear her voice clearly.

“I’ll free you from any suffering. So please, let’s just die together.”

It was an earnest wish for this unexplainable girl.

At the same time, it was a curse to me. A curse that somehow…

Somehow, I felt it wasn’t bad at all.
