Chapter 7:

Epilogue - I?

The Mixing Market

The girl blinked her eyes, as if she were awakening for the first time. Taking in her surroundings, she noticed a simple cabin in front of her. The wood of the building was quite old, but not from aging. If she had to describe it, it seemed as though the wood had been charred somewhat. A slow but rhythmic snore echoed from the open window. Around her was a luscious yet still forest. No breeze blew by, nor were there any other sounds. It felt as though time was frozen, even though it was clearly moving. In the distance, there was a white pillar rising towards the sky with no end in sight.

She tried to collect her thoughts, but they were hazy at best. The first and last thing she remembered was passing through a crack in an endless void of white. She thought there were two others with her, but her memory made no sense. One person dissolved into a white mist, floating up into the sky. The other quite literally popped out of existence. People can’t just disappear like that, she thought. It wasn’t like she knew for a fact, rather it was her instincts telling her that.

Unsure of what to do, the girl tried to take a step forward; however, a snag and a small noise caused her to jump in place instead. The snag came from her right hand.

For some reason, it was gripping a simple chair on its top railing. The small noise meanwhile came from her feet. Crushed rocks littered the area around her body. The most surprising thing was her toes. Before, she wasn’t able to see her feet when standing upright. Now, she could barely make out the tips of her feet.

Creak…

The girl’s attention snapped towards the cabin as the door creaked open. While she was distracted, the snoring had stopped, and the source seemed to have opened the door. A young man, somewhere around sixteen, came out, staring at her. Besides his black…no, dark purple hair, his features were pretty average. A loose fitting shirt covered up the top half of his body, but there was nothing covering underneath. While they were partially or completely naked, neither of them were particularly embarrassed. Instead, they were puzzled.

The young man hesitantly spoke first. “Who are you?” He had never known anyone to come here, so seeing someone right outside his home was startling. The girl understood what he said, but she had no idea how to answer. The young man waited patiently, but in the end, the girl could only think of one response:

“Who am I?”
