Chapter 7:
Enchanted Fighters
In Ray's house, Arina and Ray are watching the cartoon movie in Arina's laptop, the screen shows a there was the cat chases the mices, the cat hitting the mices with the crowbar. It's a weird scene, but they both laugh at it, their eyes glued to the screen, the room filled with their giggles.
"Hahaha! I can't believe to that." Arina's laughter bubbled over, her eyes shining with amusement as the cartoon cat strutted away with a smug look on its face. She leaned back into the cushions, her cheeks flushed from the warmth of the room and the excitement of the absurd scene.
"Okay, it was funny and jokey. Well, Arina, you are loving the cartoons in your own world." Ray asked, he realized how the comedy was different from what he was used to in his own world.
Arina nodded, still smiling. "Yeah, I know it's not everyone's cup of tea, but I find them hilarious." She paused the video, turning to look at him. "But tell me, what's it like in your world? You've been so quiet about it."
Ray took a deep breath, unsure of where to start. "Well, it's not as colorful as this place. It's more... realistic, I guess. In the Wonderland, the comedy cartoons are puppets, hand puppets and wooden puppets, but not so much of animated ones." He paused, a slight furrow appearing between his brows. "But we do have our own version of laughter and joy."
The room grew quiet for a moment as he collected his thoughts. Arina's curiosity was piqued; she'd never heard anyone from the fairytale world speak about their life before. She leaned in closer, her eyes searching his, eager to learn more about the mysterious land he came from.
"In my world, we have these... gatherings," Ray began, his voice gaining a hint of excitement, "Where everyone dresses up as the characters from our favorite stories. We dance, play games, and sometimes we even have real-life versions of the cartoons we're watching." He paused, a smile playing at the corners of his lips. "But the best part is when the real characters come to life and interact with us. It's like being in the story itself."
Arina nodded and said. "Okay, I would guess to do that, but I don't think I've ever seen anyone do that here." Her eyes grew wide with wonder as she pictured the scenes he described. "So, you actually meet the characters from your stories?"
Ray nodded eagerly. "Yes! It's like they step out of the pages and into our lives for a day. It's magical, like a festival, but better." He leaned in closer, his voice dropping to a whisper. "But sometimes, the stories don't always end happily ever after."
Her smile faded a bit, and she reached out to touch his arm gently. "What do you mean?"
He took a moment before responding, his gaze drifting to the floor. "Well, you know how fairytales have darkness too. Sometimes, the characters from those stories come to the gatherings as well. They can be a bit... intense." He swallowed hard.
There was knocking sound at the door, interrupting their conversation. Ray opens the door, he sees a mischievous little witch girl, with a pointed hat and a broom stick, standing with a basket full of goodies. She looked at him with twinkling eyes and said, "Hey Ray."
"Oh, it's you, Willow." He sighed with relief, recognizing her from the local storybook. "What brings you here?"
"I heard there's a new friend to meet!" She grinned, peeking past him to catch a glimpse of Arina. "There was a some puppeter, who was having good of comedy, so I'm here to go the puppeter show!" Willow bounced on her toes, her enthusiasm palpable.
Arina's eyes lit up at the mention of puppets, a concept she'd never encountered in the fairytale world before. "Puppeter show? Can we go?"
Ray nodded, smiling despite the earlier somber tone. "Of course, it's not every day you get to see a live show in Wonderland." He turned to Arina. "You're going to love this. It's like nothing you've ever seen in your world."
They stepped outside into the whimsical neighborhood, the air thick with the scent of sugar and spice. The cobblestone streets were lined with peculiar shops, each one more inviting than the last. As they approached the town square, the sound of laughter and applause grew louder, mingling with the clatter of puppets and the music of a lively accordion.
The square was packed with creatures from various fairytales, all chattering excitedly as they awaited the performance. There was a stage set up with velvet curtains, and a row of wooden benches surrounded it. In the center, a burly dwarf with a wild beard was tuning a tiny ukulele, his eyes twinkling with mischief.
The puppeteer, a tall, lanky man with a top hat and a scarf around his neck, stepped out from behind the curtain. He had a wide smile that could charm a snake and a twirl of his mustache that spoke of his theatrical flair. "Welcome, one and all, to the Puppeteer's Extravaganza!" He announced with a flourish of his hands, the crowd erupting into cheers.
The show began with a whirlwind of color and sound, the puppets dancing and singing, bringing the stories of Wonderland to life before their very eyes. Arina watched in amazement as the characters she'd only read about played out their tales in a way that was both familiar and new. The crowd was enraptured, children and adults alike, their laughter echoing through the square.
Which, Airi approaches to Arina and Ray, as Airi said. "Hello there, Arina."
Arina looked up, her eyes sparkling with excitement. "Hi Airi! Guess you are here to come for me."
Airi nodded. "Yes, I guess to love it."
Ray looked at Airi with a question in his eyes. "But why are you here, Airi?"
Airi shrugged. "Well, I heard about some goody here in the town!"
"Goodies Cookies! I love it!" Arina exclaimed, her eyes following Airi's gaze to the basket she held. The scent of freshly baked cookies filled the air, and her stomach rumbled in anticipation. As, Arina, Ray and the villagers are going to find the Goodies Cookies, as the puppeter looked that it was empty. Which he was gone tired, but the dark mist came out from the puppet, as Airi looked to the puppeter with the dark mist, she smiles evily.
"Hehehe, I amused to that. Our ruler will proud to that." Airi smiles evily, her eyes glinting with a mischief.
In the dark world, there was shadow figure was an lady in black dress watching from the distance, her eyes piercing through the crowd, never leaving the puppeter's figure. The energy around her grew colder, and the whispers of the flora and fauna grew silent.
"Well, nice work for Airi." The lady in the black dress spoke to no one in particular, her voice cutting through the merriment like a cold knife. The crowd parted as she glided towards the stage, her form casting a long, eerie shadow over the ground.
When, Arina, Ray and the villagers are came back, which Airi hides in the bush. As the puppeter was happier that he never felt before. The dark mist around him began to disappeared as the shadow figure of the lady in black dress vanished.
"Well, you are here for the comedy." The puppeter said, wiping the sweat from his brow. He looked at Arina with a hint of curiosity. "But, I never knew you liked the dark side of the comedy."
Arina's eyes grew wide with confusion. "What do you mean by dark comedy?"
The puppeter chuckled, his eyes twinkling with a mysterious light. "Ah, the kind that makes you laugh, but also think. It's not for everyone, but in Wonderland, we appreciate all shades of humor." He leaned in closer, his voice dropping to a conspiratorial whisper. "But sometimes, the darkest jokes hide the darkest secrets."
Airi came here to Arina and said. "I'm still waiting for you, can we watch?"
"Yeah, I like that." Arina nodded, her curiosity peaked. As Arina, Ray, Airi and the villagers are watching the most fantasy princess puppets dance, the puppeter began to pull the strings, feeling it was good.
