Chapter 8:

Dwarf encounter

Wound after wound I ended up as a Guild Receptionist

Tebonai gave a final warning to Kaede: "I don't think lord Vosphel believes you. I can't tell what he's going to do, but do stay on your toes."
Kaede waved at him with his arm stump while leaving the infirmary. Gaell was mopping the blood in the hallway while adventurers loudly discussed the recent events. Probably. That's what he would have liked to think, at the very least.

A short walk in the bustling streets of Rith washed off his lungs all the smell of irony blood he had to endure, which is something he didn't notice until he did. He walked into the workshop Tebonai recommended, and greeted the blacksmith at work. The man was a drippy dwarf, if such thing can be imagined.
"Kegale here, what is me going to do for yo?"
Kaede wasted no time being weird or awkward to a man whose race he had never met: "I need a furnace for refining pills, it has to be small with a perfectly spherical chamber of 25 centimeters diameter."
The dwarf scratched his eye, and asked "Material?"
"Bronze."
Kegale smirked. "Yo'll be parting round a thousan gold, can yo afford?"
He couldn't.
"Wrought iron it is, then." anticipated the dwarf while grabbing something below the counter and lifting it up. It was simple and a tad on the large side, but for the most part it was exactly what Kaede asked.
"How..."
"That's what me wonders. How didyo come up with me same designe?"

Before leaving, Kaede bowed down respectfully to a man of deep ingenuity. If alchemy was to be practiced by dwarves, Kegale would be nothing short of a master of the craft. It was called polygenesis: two unrelated people coming up with the same idea.
With his mind still absorbed in such thoughts, Kaede ran into two hooded cultivators waiting for him just outside the workshop.
"Oh? If it isn't the F-ranker Caedith. As you might imagine, lord Vosphel is waiting for you."
