Chapter 5:

Chapter 05

The Ice Bucket From Hell

“Why did you pick that?!” Lily angrily asked.

“I mean, I asked you a couple of times but each time you said I could pick”, I replied.

“I know that, but why did you pick a kids’ movie?!”

“Aren’t you a fan of this character? I thought you might like it.”

“I know that, but this isn’t the sort of thing you watch on a movie date!” She scolded me as she stomped on the soft carpet.

It was just past noon on the day after Lily and I had inadvertently summoned a demon and possessed her. It was also after the night that the demoness told me how to get rid of her by making Lily fall in love.

Subsequently, Lily and I are at the mall theater after I invited her to skip classes and watch a movie together.

“I don’t believe it”, she muttered to herself, but I heard it. Continuing her scolding, “Listen, if you want a girl to fall in love with you, you have to make a good impression! If you pick a kids’ movie for the first movie date, it gives the impression you’re childish and immature!”

“So, do you want to watch the movie or not?” I asked as I presented to her her ticket, ignoring everything she said.

She gritted her teeth and furrowed her brows, visibly torn about the answer to the question.

Her reply was to begrudgingly snatch the ticket off my hand and stomp her way to the concession stand.

I followed her and asked, “You sure you wouldn’t like me to set you up with your crush, whoever that is? ”

“Like I said, I’m not crushing on anyone right now”, she replied.

“I had the impression you were trying to get somebody’s attention when you wanted to do the ice bucket challenge yesterday.”

“I was trying to get attention, but from no one in particular. I wanted attention from everyone!” She paused for a moment before continuing, red-faced, “Admitting that is embarrassing, don’t make me say it, geez.”

We arrived at the end of the line to the concession stand, but it was long despite today being a weekday.

Continuing the conversation, Lily said, “Besides, you were the one with this idea.”

“I gave you other options though.”

“Huh? You said if we choose some random guy I’m friends with, there’s a high chance of failure because the deadline is unlikely to give us the time to develop feelings for each other.”

“You also said we don’t have time to find every guy who has a crush on me and see if I would be interested in one of them.”

“You said the two best options were to hook me up with my crush, or you do what the demon says and make me fall in love with you.”

“And since you agreed those two options were our best bet but insisted you don’t have a crush on anyone right now, I asked you out to a movie date”, I took it on me to finish her train of thought.

Honestly, I thought she wouldn’t agree. The way she has treated me so far doesn’t give the impression she thinks of me as a potential romantic partner, which is why I hadn’t tried asking her out before.

It doesn’t help with my nerves that her attitude right now also doesn’t indicate she’s thrilled to be here.

“I can’t believe we’re skipping class for this”, Lily lamented as she looked at the ticket she had in hand.

“Then, do you want to exchange the tickets for something else?”

“Huh? Weren’t you dangling the ticket to my face because you knew there’s no way I wouldn’t accept it?”

“T-that wasn’t my intention. I just thought you’d like to watch something else that would feel more like a date.”

“It’s fine”, she said with her brows still furrowed. Her expression had yet to go back to normal and has been like that throughout the entire conversation.

I wasn’t sure if it’s actually fine based on the look on her face.

“Besides, you know I’m not really into those chick flicks.”

“That’s true…”

“But, for your sake, this love thing better be true.”

“I-I swear it is.”

“It’s really weird. I can recall the two incidents yesterday clearly as if I was doing those things myself, but I can’t remember anything when I transformed last night.”

“Then, maybe you’re not able to recall anything if you transform in your sleep. Maybe your consciousness is still sleeping when the demoness takes over your body.”

“Hmm…” She never took her suspicious gaze off of me.

Luckily, we were next in line and that’s the time she wore a smile to face the concessions guy behind the counter.

After buying our snacks and drinks, we quietly headed into the theater and towards our seats.

Looking around, there was barely any audience. There were a few solo adult watchers, and then there’s Lily and I. The row we were on only had the two of us, and the rows behind and in front of us were empty.

The people that formed the line in the concession stand seemed like they were there to watch the other shows. It was a weekday after all, the target audience of the featured film were being good kids and not skipping school unlike us.

“Let me say this, though”, Lily said as we took our seats. “You get extra points for picking this movie.”

She was facing away from me so I’m not sure what expression she’s wearing when she said that.

First she seemed reluctant, then she said that. I was certainly getting mixed signals.

The lights then dimmed to indicate the show is about to begin.

The warnings and reminders were being shown when I asked Lily, “What do you mean?”

She turned to face me with a huge distorted smile on her face. Her fangs reflected the light coming from the screen.

The first trailer for an upcoming movie was barely playing and Lily had transformed into the demoness.

She was quick to grab my arm and pull me to her so she could steal a kiss. A deep one. No tongue, but it seemed like she was sucking the air out of my lungs.

I wasn’t sure if I managed to pull away with my strength or she simply disengaged. Either way, our lips had broken off, but her hand was still on my arm.

“Mmm”, she moaned as if she just tasted a scrumptious treat. “That bit of hope you gained earlier gave your soul a little bit more sweetness than usual.”

“W-what are you doing?” I asked while in a confused state, my voice raised as hushed as I could as to not make a scene.

“Having a taste”, she replied.

“I thought you were giving me six days?”

“Oh, but I haven’t said I would not be appearing before then, no?”

“But you said you weren’t going to eat me until then?”

“It’s normal to check on how the flavor is developing when you’re preparing food, isn’t it?”

“You’ve had your taste then, give Lily back!”

“Just let me have another taste first”, she excitedly said as she pulled on my arm again.

I resisted this time, which caused her to use one hand to reach for my neck. I caught it before it could do so with my free hand, causing us to hold hands with our fingers interlocking.

That was no romantic gesture, that was a struggle between prey and predator. The former being me, as it’s always been since yesterday.

“Please, just another bite”, she pleaded sweetly. “Please, just a little.”

All the more reason to continue my struggle. I wasn’t sure what the “bite” or that “little” entails.

Unfortunately, the demoness was overpowering me. The fact she was doing it while in Lily’s petite build wasn’t even surprising for me anymore.

When her face got dangerously close, I faced away as much as my neck allowed. This made her unable to reach my lips, but left my neck exposed.

And she took that opening while the second trailer started playing.

She licked the side of my neck. I could feel the two prongs of her tongue slide up and down near and on my jaw.

She was much closer than I thought, which caused me to try and put more strength in pushing her away. This backfired as she simply used my strength against me and let me fall forward towards her.

It was game over. The demoness relentlessly sucked and licked my mouth, eating away my strength. The more this went on, the less I could resist.

For a second day in a row, I thought I was going to die as I could feel my life withering.

What saved me was an usher finding us in the act at the start of the movie, then kicking me and Lily, who I’m not sure when she reverted back to herself, out of the theater.
