Chapter 10:
Giftear
The bed feels incredibly comfortable when
Silvia sits down on it and the rest of the hotel room also looks so
expensive and fancy.
Why did she deserve such luxury?
While
she tries to admire the room wordlessly, Vivianne sits on a small
sofa and writes frantically on her notepad.
Why is she using such
old-fashioned paper instead of typing on some trendy hologram?
By
now she feels so exhausted that she could fall asleep right away, and
yet she can't stop thinking about tonight's confrontation with
Massimo. Who could have expected that her first encounter with an
enemy would happen today? Even if she has no idea why they are
enemies.
He spoke of a basilisk and Defteros. Of the Children
of Roko... All terms that, as always, mean nothing to her. Maybe he's
just a confused man who spoke to her like that, but then how could he
know her name?
Confused
or not, Silvia doesn't have a good feeling about the whole thing. She
wants to keep the content of this meeting to herself for now.
Vivianne will certainly be able to find other clues.
In
the meantime, Silvia will try to do her own research.
This matter
could be something that government organizations, such as the
Investigation Department, should not find out about for the time
being. As sorry as Silvia is to have to lie to Vivianne.
When
Vivianne asked her if anything in the shopping street looked
familiar, she could only answer in the negative. It's the truth.
It's actually crazy - almost insane. Silvia had forgotten
everything. The look of the city, the rules of society and especially
Giftear.
She hadn't paid much attention to this artificial
intelligence until now, but now she knows how important A.I. is for
the daily life of modern society. The fact that all creative and
entertaining works seem to be the product of generative technology
seems incomprehensible to Silvia. Although no memories have come to
light, she remembers how much she appreciates man-made art. Is she
perhaps in reality an eccentric outsider in society? That would
certainly explain her outfit...
“Hm...
Tell me Silvia,” Vivianne begins, bringing Silvia back to reality.
“What exactly did you do in the last three months after you
were found?”
Well, that's a really good question.
Silvia's
memories of the last three months are actually very hazy - but at
least some of them are there.
She remembers sitting in a cell.
Occasionally she talked to someone: Therapists, perhaps?
All this
thinking is exhausting and Silvia now realizes how tired she really
is.
She can't help but yawn out loud.
It's really hard for
her to stay focused, so she simply tells Vivianne what she remembers
from the last few months.
Tiredness has now gained the upper
hand, but Silvia can still hear Vivianne talking:
“Sounds like
pretty brutal handling for someone who only suffers from
amnesia.”
“Yes, 'just' amnesia,” replies Silvia, without
really having heard the content of Vivianne's statement.
She
immediately drops onto the bed and drifts off into a deep
slumber
She has done enough for today.
