Prologue: The Legend of the Beginning

In ages past, there was an abundance of magic that filled the land. Through the mana in the earth, numerous miracles were performed and heroes of old would perform unimaginable feats.

It was through these miracles that heroes would inspire fantastical stories and make their mark on the world. And the stories that spawned would give birth to new tales and instill a magic that was filled to the brim with wonder.

The people of the world would continue their pursuit of magic in hopes of growing to be heroes like the fantastical Merlin, King Arthur, Charlemagne, or the authors whose tales weaved even more heroes and grand figures.

Alongside the magic that was granted by the world’s mana, technology sprouted forth much later in the mortal world’s lifespan and soon grew to be a mainstay in modern life.

The world was advancing! Spellcasters even developed code catalysts, devices that would create a spell’s framework and only required the caster to input the instructions to cast the spells.

But such progress had consequences…

The world's science had advanced to such a degree that magic was starting to lose its power.

Spellcasters and magical creatures were starting to lose their connection to the world's mana. For the use of technology had ruined their ability to access the natural power of mana. As such, the mana of the world grew weaker from under utilization.

If the world’s mana grew too weak, then the people and creatures of the world that relied on magic would risk going extinct. The world’s order would suffer many casualties…

There had to be ways to restore the ability to process or at least access mana!! Someone had to make the effort to help the world’s inhabitants. Not just for the people and creatures at risk, but for the world itself…

So five brave spellcasters, later known as The Legendary Supreme Mages, made an effort to stop the corrosion by seeking out the spirit of the world, the only one who could help them. For SURELY she would not ignore this plight. The Mother of Earth…

Gaia.

And so, they set off…

As the last spellcasters able to perform old styles of magic, they were tasked with this long journey and after years of searching, they found her domain…

As they pleaded their case before Gaia, she listened, then contemplated their words before reaching a consensus.

Swayed by the risks to her realm’s inhabitants, The Spirit of the World agreed to help. It was thanks to her benevolence and love for her people that the Supreme Mages were able to forge a contract with her.

From that day forward, Gaia will grant the world’s inhabitants a spirit of a legendary hero or figure that will choose them at birth. Giving their hosts the access to some of the magic and mana that made their feats so great

This Legend will grant their hosts 3 Magical Abilities based on their stories, and at the age of 18, they will also grant their hosts a Sacred Treasure.

For some, the Sacred Treasure is a tool, for others, a weapon, and for others beyond that, it is immaterial. It is a moment, or technique. It is something important to them.

There are of course limitations to these abilities. The abilities are dependent on the host and their ability to synchronize with their legend.

If the host argues constantly with the spirit then the abilities would lose potency. Additionally Gaia forbade certain abilities such as pure immortality to be passed down, for such power could do irreparable damage to the human psyche.

And so, the contract was sealed, the spirits of numerous heroes, fairy tales characters, and legendary figures scoured the globe to find their new hosts. They were all excited to be granted a second chance at life, although for others it was their first.

It took some getting used to, but eventually, the world adapted to this new way of life.

Meanwhile, the Supreme Mages then went into hiding to observe the world as it progressed. Some lived among the populous while others hid in the shadows.

With this new chapter of the mortal world’s story, a city was soon established. One where you can sit on the beach, stay at one of the local resorts, or simply visit for a spell to drink in the glorious night sky. This was the beginning of a glorious coastal city that would grow large and even develop its own culture.

The Glistening Coastal City, Starlight City, home of the Gilgamesh Fighter’s Challenge, became a beacon, where people of any age, species, and background could come to stay. It is where we find the hero of our story relaxing on the beach.
