Chapter 1:

Bloddy Night

Dark Hero

A massive island sits in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. It’s haunted by a dark and dreadful atmosphere. Smoke rises from multiple buildings engulfed by flames. Screams and explosions fill the air as the fire continues to spread.

A group of three people launch multiple supernatural attacks, causing a massive explosion. They begin to stare as the smoke clears and a dark human shadow emerges. A person in a police uniform appears with a sinister look on his face. He goes to unsheathe his sword on his left hip. Suddenly, the officer vanishes and reappears behind the group. Seconds later, blood gushes from their bodies as it appears they’ve been slashed. The officer walks away as he waves the blood off his sword, and the three fall to the ground and die.

In a different part of the city, away from the action, lies a regular house. A kid the age of eight is staring at a TV while sitting on his mom’s lap. The TV shows a news channel covering the horrific event taking place across the island.

“The raid is getting worse as the night continues. This can only be described as hell. If you’re hearing this, then wherever you are, please stay indoors until further notice.”

An explosion booms in the distance, and as the reporter looks back, the shockwave hits, causing the feed to cut off. Fear fills the eight-year-old boy's face as he realizes just how bad the situation is.

“Mommy, I'm scared,” he mutters as tears begin forming on his face.

“Don’t worry, Yuto, everything’s going to be ok. We aren’t in the danger zone. As long as we stay in the house, we should be perfectly fine. This has nothing to do with us.”

Yuto’s dad enters the living room.

“That's right, Yuto. How about we go play your favorite game?”

“YAY! Mommy, do you wanna play with us?”

“Mommy’s gonna stay here and keep watching TV. Go play with your daddy.”

“Okay.”

“Yuki, don’t go overboard with Yuto right before bed.”

“Don’t worry, I won’t. Me and Yuto are just gonna have a little fun, right, Yuto?” Yuki’s lips pucker up to the side as he gazes to the left with the obvious expression of a lie.

“R-Right,” Yuto whispers as he makes the same face.

“Uh-huh, you two are awful liars. Whatever, as long as no one gets hurt, it’s fine with me.”

Yuto and Yuki head upstairs with an overjoyed expression. Just as they head upstairs, a sketchy white van pulls into the driveway. Two people wearing a black hood and pants exit the van. A worried look crosses the face of Yuto’s dad.

“Shit…I didn’t think he was actually bold enough to go through with it,” Yuki mumbles with a look of extreme fear.

“Yuki, what’s going on?”

“Lira, there's no time to explain. WE HAVE TO GO NOW!” Yuki shouts in desperation.

“Mommy? Daddy? What’s wrong?”

“YUKI!” Lira yells with profound confusion.

“Dammit, Lira, just take Yuto and run.”

Lira grabs Yuto and runs out the back door into the backyard as Yuki follows suit. Suddenly, the front door is kicked open, and the hooded men enter the house. As they climb the fence and enter the street, Yuki pulls out his phone and makes a call.

“Why are you calling at a time like this, Yuki?”

“Shunji, I need your help. I got in over my head, and now some people are after us.”

“WHAT?! YOU DAMN FOOL! YOU TOLD ME YOU GAVE UP TRYING TO EXPOSE THEM!” Shunji shouts in anger.

“There’s no time for this, Shunji. We need your help now.”

A knife soars in and cuts Yuki’s hand, making him drop his phone.

“SHIT!”

“YUKI!”

The two hooded men slowly walk through the backyard.

“They won't get away,” one of them says.

They jump over the fence, and one prepares to launch an attack. Knives begin floating out of his clothes and surround his right hand. As he holds his hand in the direction of Yuto and his parents, the knives shoot out at incredible speed and strike Yuki.

“AHH!” Yuki screams as he falls to the ground.

“YUKI, NOOO!”

“DA-DADDY?”

“K-Keep running… d-don’t… look back,” Yuki groans in agony as he fights to stay alive.

Blood begins to fill Yuki’s lungs and mouth. He starts coughing up blood as he reaches his hand toward Yuto and Lira.

“Yu-Yuto, Lira, I'm so sorry. The two of you never should’ve been caught up in this. My foolish mistake put this family in jeopardy.”

Yuki continues to cough up blood, and Lira goes to help him.

Before Lira could move, three knives struck her stomach, and she quickly fell to the ground. Blood started leaking from her stomach and dripping off her mouth.

“MOMMY, NOT YOU TOO!”

Yuto grabs Lira’s arm and starts pulling.

“GET UP, MOMMY! PLEASE GET UP!”

A desperate feeling fills Yuto’s body. His body feels weak as he falls to the ground. Tears start flowing from Yuto’s eyes, and the reality of the situation kicks in. He’s lost in a sense of confusion, sadness, and desperation, hoping that everything is just a dream, but deep down, he knows his parents are dying.

Lira struggles to stay up as she coughs up a huge amount of blood. Her vision blurs as she musters enough strength to look at Yuto and tell him her final words.

“Yuto, my boy, I love you so much. You have to keep running. Survive this, Yuto, and grow up strong. You have so much life left to live. Continue living, my boy.”
‘Someone please save my dear boy. I don’t care about my life, but he doesn’t deserve to die like this.’

Lira falls to the ground and dies. Yuto says nothing as he stares at his parents’ lifeless corpses. The two hooded men make their way to Yuto and hover over him.

“What should we do with the kid?”

“No witnesses,” the other says as another knife floats to his hand.

Out of nowhere, a gray-haired man in a white shirt and black pants swoops down to Yuto and attacks the hooded man. The hooded man dodges and jumps back. The other hooded man goes in to attack.

“Out of the way.”

A blade of water forms around his hand as he goes for the kill. The gray-haired man grabs the hooded man’s hand and runs his hand through the man’s heart. He pulls his hand out of the body and lets the lifeless body fall to the ground. He then looks at the other hooded man with a serious expression.

“I’ve done my job. No need to risk my life,” the hooded man says as he vanishes from the scene.

The gray-haired man looks down at Yuto and his dead parents.

“Damn, I got here as fast as I could, but I was too late.”

“Yuki, you fool. Look at what you’ve done,” he says in his head.

“Shu-Shunji, why did this happen?”

Yuto’s eyes are widened and soulless, with a blank facial expression.

“Sorry, Yuto, your dad got caught up with the wrong people. There are people in this city that you don’t mess with—powerful and evil people. Your dad was trying to expose one of them, and this was the result.”

The despair on Yuto’s face is slowly overcome by the feeling of rage. As the situation fully processes through Yuto’s head, he can't help but be enraged. He clenches his jaw tight and leans over the ground.

“I see. And what would I have to do to take these people down?” Yuto groans with rage.

“It’s not possible. These people are too strong. This kind of thing runs deeper than anyone could ever imagine. The crime on this island is growing and only getting worse.”

“SO WHAT? I’ve heard that you’re just as strong.”

In a fit of rage, Yuto begins gripping the ground and baring his teeth. The ground starts cracking as Yuto’s fingers pierce the very earth itself. Shunji is shocked as he witnesses Yuto make a mini-crater in the ground.

“Train me, Shunji. Make me strong enough to take them down. I don’t care what it takes.”

As Shunji gazes at Yuto, a dark sky comes into view. Hovering over the island, horrid screams from the raid fill the air, along with the sound of the crackling fire. The dark vibe grows worse than before as what can only be described as a nightmare looms over the island. Slowly, the dreadful screams fade away, and an eerie silence fills the air.
