Chapter 7:

Somewhere Far Away

23 year-old's summer vacation

"Why don't you get a real job?! I am sick of seeing you just lazing around while all of your friends have a real job!" My mom shouts at me, out of nowhere.
I stand up from my chair, my blood is boiling, I can't tolerate this anymore, "I have a job! I make my own money! I just don't want to be miserable like you!"
"What job? Just jamming around with your friends is not a job! It has no stability and no future. When my colleagues ask me about you, I can only say that you're a freelance, even though you're jobless, then I hear how their kids are getting good jobs, and it hurts me."
How dare she say that? We work hard to get to this point, we can grow more, we're growing, but that's going too far.
I got my suitcase and started packing up my belongings angrily, I don't want to live here anymore.
"What are you doing?"
I keep packing my stuff until most of them are in and then leave my room.
"I'm leaving."
I'm just fed up with her, she always looks down on me because I don't have a "proper" job, but I don't want to get a job, I already have something that both makes me happy and some money, I don't need a job.
What does she know about me? She's barely at home, all she does every day is just a slave for a corporation, I don't want to do that.
Just because she works hard, she often looks down on me, saying that I wouldn't go anywhere at this rate.
You don't even know what we do, you don't want to know what we do, because all you care about is that your pride get hurt by your insecurity.
I got a train to my grandmother's home in the countryside, I wanted to be away from all of this mess and just do nothing without anyone bothering me.
I told the band that I was visiting my grandmother for a while, so they wouldn't be confused when I couldn't join them.
I arrived at the train station in the village, it's a very quiet and empty station, and no one rides the train in the middle of the day in summer vacation.
This village is up in the mountains, the closest city is about 2 hours away so there is nothing much going on around here.
I should've got a taxi or called one of my relatives to pick me up, I just realised how hot is today, I'd get sunburned if I didn't get there quickly.
About 20 minutes later, I finally arrived at the front of my grandma's house. This place doesn't change at all.
"Excuse me, is anyone home?" I said from the front door.
"Yes, please wait." Said someone young, definitely not grandma. Someone opens the door, it's a tall girl with long straight black hair and brown eyes. "Granny, Olivia is here!" Shout her to the back, she sounds very excited, do I know her?
I am just standing in silence.
"Did you forget me? I'm Tomori."
Wait, what? That short, silly person who lives beside us is now a tall and pretty lady? "Uhh, you look so different."
"Of course dummy, when was the last time you visited us?" As she shakes my head. "Come inside, you must be tired from the trip."
We walk inside, and things don't change at all here, even though the last time I was here I was still in my first year of high school. I can remember all the decors that are still in the same spot as they were like 6 or 7 years ago.
We're in the living room, it's so nostalgic. She still keeps the old TV and radio here.
"Rest here, I'll get you some drinks and snacks," Tomori said before she went to the kitchen.
There is no AC or anything here, but somehow it's more relaxing and chill than my home, I wouldn't know if it's summer if I hadn't gone outside.
Grandma comes to the living room, "I'd cook you something special if you told me before coming here."
I scratch my head, "I want it to be a surprise."
"Just rest for now, let's cook your favourite food later."
Now that just makes me not want to rest, I want to make and eat them and then I can rest.
"I'll continue at the back." As she left the room.
Shortly after, Tomori comes to the living room with drinks and slices of watermelon. She put it on the table and sat right in front of me.
"So how's it going?" Asks her.
"Nothing much, apart from I'm getting older."
"Have you graduated from college? Did you get a job?"
"Yeah I graduated, and no I don't have a job. All I do is just be in a band."
"Wait that's cool, so what do you play?"
"Drums. What about you?"
"I teach art in the local high school and am also responsible for the art club. I can only draw though, so it's kinda difficult."
"Doesn't sound very fun."
"It is not that bad, I can learn new things and improve myself."
"Tomori, please help me here!"Grandma calls Tomori from the backyard.
"Well I got something to do, so see ya."
I am excited to do nothing for the next few weeks, but I gotta sleep right now, I start to feel the exhaustion from the trip.
