Chapter 1:
A Small Hope
I awake from the noise of my alarm ringing in my ears. I take a look at my phone, It's 6AM. Time to get up and get ready for my classes. I, Leo, attends the High School down the road. Today marks the start of the last two months of school, I say to myself. I then crawl out of bed and look upon my empty room. Nothing but a bed and television, empty as always. Living alone has been difficult, I think to myself. Ever since me and my parents agreed not to be involved with each other anymore, I continued to think. Well i might as well get up and have a shower before heading out.
After taking my shower I get dressed in our uniform. It's simple long black pants, and a black coat, hiding a blue undershirt. I then brush my curly dark hair then head out. The sun hidden behind gray clouds. It has been like this for weeks. The school is only a mile away so I just walk to and from it every day. i arrive at the decent size school, Its entrance clearly seen from the street. My classroom is on the second floor, and I sit in the back.
Normally there is one empty seat to my left, but today my classmate Ruri is here. She has only show up a few times the last few months. Long jet black hair, and a slender frame and covered in bandages. I few scars line her face and arms as well. I've never had the courage to talk to her before. I figured everyone has their own problems, but today she look especially hurt. I sit in my desk next to her and ask "are you okay?" She stares daggers at me and tells me to leave her alone, her red eyes piercing me. I say, "Okay" then leave her alone, put down by our simple conservation. The day goes by slow, I glance over at her a few times but she is just staring blankly into her book. The day ends and I head home.
The next day approaches, the morning routine the same as the last. I hate to admit it but all I can think about is Ruri. When I enter the classroom she is already seated in her desk. I say "Good Morning" to her. She looks at me coldly and says nothing. I then notice a new bandage on her face. I've been where she's been. It's dark and cold. The though of not waking up tomorrow is the best thing that could happen.
I write a small note for her, it contains my address, phone number, along with a small message. If you need help or need to talk, use these. She glances at me and she says softly but angrily, " I told you to leave me alone." "I know I say, but I am offering you an escape. Just think about it." She snatches the paper and hides it quickly. Toward the end of the day I make the comment, "I want to make curry tonight, but I'm afraid I might make to much and have leftovers. Her ears perk up slightly but she doesn't look as to not draw attention. The day comes to a close, not another word said.
