Chapter 7:

The sadistically evil city

Streamer Royale

Madoka nervously darted her head around as she peeked out from behind a bush. There was no sign of Red Reaper, but that didn't mean there wasn't any danger.

"I don't sense anything, so I guess it's safe for now," she thought as she retracted her head.

Her, Iori, Kumi, and Leona had managed to gain some considerable distance from Red Reaper and were now in a forest overlooking what seemed to be a large town.

"So we heading off to town?" Iori asked.

"Seems like the best course of action, but I have no idea what might await us there," Madoka sighed.

Kumi offered to do a quick scout, but the proposal was shot down due to fears it might backfire. Thus, the four agreed to head to town together. As they neared the gates, they noticed a sign that read "City of Sadevile" along with two well-dressed and snobby looking guards standing watch.

"Oh, well we seem to have some filthy, but quite savory looking peasants, wouldn't you agree, Vileburt?" one of the guards sneered.

"Oh yes, Janvile, they are most scrumptiously voluptuous, but they reek of filth."

"Well so did the peasant Burtvile played with. In fact, I dare say there's a conspiracy out there making all the peasant women attractive..."

The girls glared at the conversation unfolding before them, and decided it was best to head for a different town.

"Oh and where do you think you're going?" one of the guards glared.

"Uh, not here," Iori growled.

"NO, no, no! You are forbidden from leaving! You are to be play things for this noble town!"

Kumi glared and snapped her fingers causing both guards to be struck by lightning and fried to death. However, a barrier suddenly encased the four girls as a squad of armored elves suddenly rose out of the ground.

"Thou art guilty of capitol murder, and thus are to be sentenced," one elf announced as a golem appeared and began carrying the barrier like a ball into town.

The town looked impressive, with it's streets paved with fine marble and the buildings adorned with fine minerals. However, there was also a nasty disparity in plain sight. Well-dressed people were proudly walking lesser dressed people like dogs and constantly degrading them. One noble was constantly breaking the bones of both a mother and child, while another was forcing two men to make out atop the corpses of their dead wives and children. Malicious smiles were abound along with mocking laughter. It was a putrid sight that made the girls want to vomit.

Kumi attempted to summon lightning, but found she was unable to summon any outside of the barrier. "Fuck, I can't kill this town."

"This place is horrible. How could such a place exist?" Madoka trembled.

Iori scowled and let out a sigh. "Humans are sadistic. We take pleasure in putting down others and making them bleed. That's why so many stories have characters suffering, because it scratches that sadistic itch humans have deep within. But some humans can't control their sadism and seek to inflict worldwide pain in order to satisfy it. Sometimes, they even become so sadistic they cross over into masochism. Though masochism is just being sadistic to yourself, so the point stands; humans are sadistic. We love making ourselves feel better at the expense of others. Our sadism is so strong that it's like a daily necessity to make someone else's day miserable to make yourself feel powerful. This is why bullying will never go away, why wars will always be raged, why opposing sides will never see eye to eye. Because we are all sadistic. Who cares about right or wrong, all that matters is asserting dominance and degrading your victim to shit. Happy endings? Nah, people want to see characters suffer because it excites them. They say the only constant in life is change, but I say human sadism is the other constant. You say there are heroes that seek to save the day? Nah, they're just culling their sadism by bashing monsters and demon kings. Then there's politics. Nothing but a sadist slugfest. "Craft better policy for the good of the populace"? Nah, more like pass OUR policies to make the other side miserable. After all, to the victor go the spoils and the power to subject the losers to hell for pleasure. Sadism is an innate human trait. Even babies can be sadistic at times, and only get more sadistic as they age. And no matter what path they take or how their life goes, there will be looming sadism. Vengeance itself is rooted in paying back those that were sadistic to you with even greater sadism. The concept of games themselves are nothing but ways for humans to soothe their sadism either by beating other humans or NPCs. Chess just so happens to be one of the most sadistic games out there due to it being purely skill-based and cutthroat. As such, the results of the game can land a critical hit on someone's mental state. More so if you beat them in the most humiliating fashion. Sadism will always be within every human, even if you actually do show someone compassion, in the back of your mind, you'll be thinking, "What if I kicked them while they were down? Would it feel great? How hilarious would it be to watch them die in agony?" Sadism is inescapable for humans. The only question is how much they let their innate sadism leak out and control their life."

Everyone went silent as Iori concluded her speech.

"That's actually pretty deep," Kumi nodded.

"Yeah, I can kind of understand what you mean," Leona somberly nodded.

"Still, do you really think we're all just sadistic monsters waiting to hatch?" Madoka d=nervously asked.

"Well clearly me and Kumi already got some sadism pumping through our veins. I've seen how Leona can get when playing games, so that leaves you. Though you had no problem kicking that clown in the face, so I take it you adopt a similar mentality when you have to escape by any means necessary," Iori grumbled.

Madoka somberly sighed. "Still, I know people that are really kind."

"I do too. We call those folks, people that keep their sadism at bay. I'll admit you seem to be the best at that amongst everyone here-"

"Uh, I only get that way in games," Leona glared.

"Yeah, bullshit Miss "I'm inking Astrid's head wasabi green."

"That doesn't count as sadism."

"If we wanna be cynical, we'll say sadism and masochism, but as I said, masochism's just about being sadistic to yourself."

"Oi, the mood's gone to shit. Maybe we should all just shut up for a bit," Kumi grumbled.

Everyone mutually agreed to do so as the golem carried them through town. Eventually, the golem arrived at a fortress-like structure at the center of town and entered. It was clear this structure was the holding area, but despite it looking like a max-security compound, only one guard seemed to be on duty.

"Charges?"

"They're the ones that murdered Vileburt and Janvile."

"Ah, the ones Princess von Satome informed Duke Vile about. Throw them in the back."

The golem nodded and tossed the barrier towards a circular indentation in the floor. Before the girls could react, the floor opened up and they along with the barrier descended into darkness below.

Outside, a cloaked figure sighed before quickly ducking out of sight. "That idiot. Ugh, guess I'll have to save them," she grumbled.
