#083 Whale Fall

I once read that a phenomenon called ‘a whale fall’ can occur when a whale’s corpse sinks to the ocean floor. A flourishing ecosystem is left in its wake, supplying a great variety of sea creatures with nourishment and shelter for decades.

The frame of the plane groans as we face the uncertain waters of turbulence. Looking at how its great metal ribs stretch out above me, I wonder if whales too have perished due to rapid changes in pressure and flow velocity…

It leads me to question: Does a plane leave an ecosystem in its wake when it crashes?
