Chapter 34:

Weight of the World Pt. 2

Code: Zero Defect

Holiday watched as Frankenstein's body trembled violently, her hands twitching uncontrollably as arcs of lightning sparked around her, creating an erratic, chaotic glow. The air became heavy with static, and the very atmosphere vibrated with volatile energy. Holiday could feel it—Frankenstein was losing control.

"Alex... Alex, stop! You've pushed yourself too far!" Holiday pleaded, her voice desperate as she stepped toward her.

Frankenstein's eyes flickered, but not with recognition. Instead, they burned with wild intensity, the teal glow of her iris now an unearthly blaze.

"Too far? No... I haven't gone far enough, Judy," she growled, her voice warped by the unstable energy coursing through her.

Lightning shot out from her body, striking at everything it could find. The walls cracked and sizzled from the heat, and the ruined floor beneath her began to melt in places. Frankenstein was no longer in control of her power; it was consuming her.

"Fuck... Alex!"

Frankenstein's lips twisted into a dangerous grin, her mind lost to the frenzy of power. "You think you can stop me with that weak gravity of yours? You're afraid, aren't you, Judy? Afraid to fight back because you know I'll kill you this time."

"If you keep this up, you'll kill yourself!"

But Frankenstein was beyond reason. Each step she took sent another shockwave through the ground, destabilizing the area even further.

"Then die already!" she screamed, raising her hands above her head.

A massive bolt of lightning gathered between her hands, the energy pulsating violently, ready to obliterate anything in its path. Holiday’s eyes widened in horror. The sheer size of the bolt—it wasn't aimed at her. It was going to destroy everything around them, including Frankenstein herself.

"No! Stop!" Holiday screamed as she launched herself forward, desperately trying to get to her in time.

Lost in the haze of her unstable powers, Frankenstein gasped and grunted. Her mind twisted around, and her heartbeats were violent. It felt like every organ in her body was burning up and disintegrating from within. The lightning bolt fractured and faded away, but not because she willed it to.

Frankenstein pulled on her hair and let out the most painful scream. "U-ugh...! Hah... AGH!"

"Alex!" Holiday shouted.

But she didn't stop. She couldn't. The electricity continued to pour out of her uncontrollably, her body glowing brighter with each passing second. Her grin had faded, replaced with a hollow expression of rage and despair. In her eyes, all Holiday could see was the reflection of desolation.

"Damn it, Alex..." Holiday mumbled. "Alex, you have to stop! Please! I don't want to lose you!"

In a single second, Frankenstein was mere inches away from Holiday, her arm in the motion of swinging. Holiday saw it coming, but she could not react. Frankenstein grabbed a hold of Holiday's face, propelling forward in the blink of an eye. She slammed her against the wall, forming a massive crater within.

A splash of blood shot out of Holiday's mouth as Frankenstein continued to hold her by the face.

"Stop crying," Frankenstein muttered. "You can't save me, Judy. You never bothered to... so don't act like you can now."

The lightning around her intensified, becoming blindingly bright. Holiday could barely see through the bright light, but she felt the full force of Frankenstein's power bearing down on her. Her heart pounded in her chest as the realization hit her—there was no stopping this, not unless she was ready to sacrifice her own life as well.

Holiday gritted her teeth, whispering to herself. "I've always cared... Enough to go this far just to save you."

She grabbed onto Frankenstein's wrist. Although she was trembling with pain, she managed to pull it aside despite being electrocuted. Once more, their eyes met, steeled by resolve.

"Code: Event Horizon... Overdrive."

Suddenly, Everything went dark. The underground facility had vanished, leaving Frankenstein adrift in an infinite void of the deepest black. She took a step forward, but where was forward? There was no way to tell—nothing to suggest she was anywhere at all.

Suddenly, a faint glow appeared. Looking down, she saw strands of orange swirling around her feet, coiling in a circular motion before vanishing beyond the horizon of darkness. Her eyes widened, locking onto a massive black hole, half visible and outlined by a ghostly blue and white light.

She rose slowly, entranced by its terrifying beauty. Then, from the singularity itself, Holiday stepped out.

Her gaze pierced through Frankenstein, sharper than any blade. Frankenstein had seen it before, if only briefly, and thought little of it then. But now, as she stood frozen, staring into the four-pointed stars in Holiday's eye, she felt something she hadn't in years—true fear.

"W-what the hell... is this...?" she muttered.

But Holiday kept her mouth still, keeping her gaze on Frankenstein with pity.

She let out a long sigh. "I'm going to give you one last chance, Alex. Stand down and forget about me... or cease to exist. Choose."

"Hah... Not giving me much of an option here."

"Neither did you when you decided to confront me."

"So you should already know what my answer is!"

Frankenstein bolted forward with her fist raised. However, her electrified punch came to a halt when Holiday effortlessly grabbed it. She tried to pull it again, but it was impossible. Holiday's grip was far too strong.

"Then... There is nothing more to discuss."

As Holiday released her grip, a faint tremor rippled through the nonexistent ground. The auric trail of orange swirled faster, mirrored by the event horizon itself. The black hole was accelerating, spinning at a terrifying speed, and with it came an unimaginably powerful gravitational pull.

Frankenstein struggled, trying desperately to resist, but with every step back, she was dragged two steps forward. No matter how hard she fought, the force grew stronger until it was too much. Her screams vanished, swallowed by the black hole’s immense pull, and she was sucked into the singularity.

Inside the void, fractures appeared, splintering the darkness piece by piece. The black hole spiraled out of control, devouring everything faster and faster, until the weight became unbearable. The void collapsed, shattering reality with a catastrophic implosion.

To those who witnessed it, a towering pillar of black and white shot into the sky, splitting the clouds in its path. For a brief moment, the world turned still, frozen in monochrome—even the rain that fell from the heavens paused.

As the dust cleared, Holiday stood at ground level, panting heavily, her arms trembling from the strain. She glanced to the side, where a massive crater marked the completely obliterated underground facility. In front of her, Frankenstein lay unconscious, her body flickering with the last remnants of her power.

Holiday raised a hand, and with the sluggishness of exhaustion, lowered it. Color slowly returned to the world, and the rain resumed its fall. She collapsed to her knees, coughing violently. The first brought searing pain. The second came with blood. Her vision blurred, and a strange vibration echoed in her chest.

From her pocket, she pulled out a strange syringe and shoved it into her upper arm with a cry of pain. Her breaths quickened, but as she injected herself with the syringe's content, they slowly stabilized.

"Ugh..." Frankenstein moaned as she pushed her arms against the ground.

Her head lifted, and they showed nothing short of the eyes that glared at her with hatred, just like before.

"Y-you... Why did you... pull me out...?"

"What...? Did you want to die... or something?" Holiday asked, struggling to breathe.

"Hah. It would've been... Agh... better than being saved... by the likes of you."

"Then you're still... as stupid as always."

As much as she struggled to do so, Frankenstein got on her feet.

"Alex... Just give it up."

"You'd love that, wouldn't you? But I'm not willing... to let this go your way. Get up. This... isn't over yet. Not until one of us dies."
