Urban Legends Club

"And now, here's Axel Voss on behalf of the newly-formed Urban Legends club!"

The overwhelming lack of applause engulfed me as I walked onto the stage and towards the microphone. The teacher who'd just called out my name gave me a thumbs up as I walked by her.

I'd practiced my smile in the mirror for hours, but when I finally faced the crowd, all I could manage was a painful grimace. Normally, I would've had Chipper handle the club introduction, but since only the club president can do it, I was doomed from the beginning.

"Uhm..." I muttered into the mic, struggling to recall what I'd memorized that morning. In my head, I tried to work things out.

What was it again...? Wait, stop trembling. Let's not overthink it and go step-by-step. Introduction first.

"G-good morning, everyone. I'm Axel Voss, president of the Urban Legends club," I said in a nervous tone.

See? It wasn't that hard. Now, what does the Urban Legends club do?

"Our club investigates local ur-urban legends to find the truth behind them."

See that cute girl in the front row, the one wearing the bizarre yellow beanie with a purple leopard print on it? She looks confused = give her an example.

"You know, like spooky myths and stories you hear all the time through people or read on the internet? That type of stuff. You could call us detectives for the supe-supernatural."

What a shame. I almost got through without stuttering. Well, forget it. I'm doing leagues better than the last time I spoke in front of a crowd. I'm done with the hardest part; now it's time for the easiest—wrapping things up.

"So, uh... Yeah... (pause). Consider joining us if you're interested in that kind of stuff, and consult us if you have any interesting urban legends you want to know the truth behind. And uh... Thank you."

Good job, Axel. You blew it.
