Chapter 4:
Survivor of my own madness
And so it begins, another day in this castle, firstly I needed to make breakfast, as I saw the dirty plates I was thinking which was going to be the next area to clean up, I took some eggs and bacon out of the box, a tea bag and more bread which I spread with jam
I still was feeling strange, I was leaning back and forth, my eyes were a bit itchy and my body wasn’t recovered at all from the things that happened in the room and in the basement
Still, I was planning to continue no matter what, I can’t afford to give a bad impression when they come to check the place up, I needed the money.
The money that I have in my savings is about to end, since my parents are gone, I don’t have the help of anyone right now.
-Maybe being so focused on other things wasn’t a good idea…
I was munching my bread, slowly, like if I didn’t want to swallow it, my stomach was feeling weird too. I spent more time taking breakfast thanks to that issue.
When I finished I clean the plates and frying pan, I look at the kitchen and saw how everything wasn’t as bad shape as I thought, same with the main lobby and the bathroom, I assume they cleaned those areas for one to have at least one area free of dust to eat and do what we do after eat, but that didn’t mean it was completely free of dust, I took the duster and broom along with the mask and glasses and started to clean all the kitchen and main lobby, having all the dust accumulate in the main entrance.
It wasn’t as bad as cleaning the basement but I was leaning on the walls from time to time, I keep spacing out looking at the ceiling for a few seconds or the floor, I could hear my own breathing as if it was someone inhaling and exhaling in my ear, my heart was bombing blood in a very fast pace too, and I still had my eyes tired, every time I close it for more than one second it was either burning me or like if it was glued with some very strong type of glue.
I keep moving my head from left to right and giving me small hits in any part of my body, but I finished, I took the dust from the dustpan and throw it in the trash can, I did this two more times to make sure all the dust was picked up, and the next step was checking the giant rug.
I open the door, dragging the rug with me and start to shake it off, I could see all the dust on the rug floating, after a few minutes I begin to roll the rug while shaking it, every time it was getting heavier, until I had a giant roll and enter the castle trying not to lose my balance and putting the rug next to the door.
Cleaning the part where the rug was very easy, there was only dust on the edges of where it was, but I had to mop the floor, and the stairs, I took my time to prepare the water but I was feeling very tired.
I searched for coffee in the box and found it.
—Better drink it solo —I say to myself.
I left everything prepared to mop the floor as I was boiling water, taking off my mask and glasses next to the bucket and cleaning my hands, perfect time to take a rest well deserved. Once the teapot started to make an annoying sound, I turned off the stove and made a strong black coffee with no sugar.
—I love drinking coffee black but this is a bit too much… —I yawn and cough.
I took a sip of the coffee and felt uneasy, like if I was going to vomit but I kept pushing and drinking it all, my energy wasn’t restored at all, my stomach hurt a little but I was a little more awake than before, it was the coffee or the hot water.
—Maybe it will take effect after a little bit.
I clutch my eyes, having my finger in the middle of them as I take a deep breath, and start mopping the floor, mopping the floor, mopping the floor. All that I could watch was the mop going back and forth, to the left and to the right, doing circles, it was life I was in a trance, and when I noticed, I was sitting down at the of the stairs, I stand up and look at everywhere, the floor, the stairs, they were clean, already dried, I could feel something wet in the back of my pants.
My eyes opened and I slowly put my hand on my butt, and saw it was water, I sigh in relief looking at where I was sitting. It was the water from the mop that was making a mess on my clothes.
—I probably entered some kind of automatic mode or something —I looked at the windows and saw that the final rays of light had just set down —I should get some sleep…
I push down the rag and put in the floor, I take the stairs to enter the room where I was staying and take some clothes to bathe, once I enter the bathroom I try to endure the cold water, the weather was already cold, so this was a challenge, but when I noticed I already finished, I change my clothes to once more comfortable and went to the kitchen to have some light dinner, two sandwiches, and a cup of tea.
I couldn’t stand anymore being awake, when I finished my dinner and brushed my teeth, I walk to the stairs and throw myself again on the bed. But I couldn’t fall asleep that easily…
