Chapter 10:
Sugar Rush before the Sweet Nightmares
I stand and turn to see James leaning against someone's picket white fence. He has a tightly fitting dark green long sleeve shirt on with tan cargo pants on and boots.
"How are you doing today kitten?" He asks.
I jump to him and cover his mouth with my hand. Up close I can see the flakes of green in his brown eyes. I look around to see if anyone is looking.
"Don't you dare call me that in public!" I hiss.
He removes my hand from his mouth. Pulling me close.
"So I can call you that in private?" He asks quietly with a smirk.
My cheeks and ears are burning again.
"You are so annoying." I say walking away. He let's me go easily.
He catches up to me and walks beside me with his hands in his pockets.
"You were purring last night what's changed?" He asks. "Wait it's because it's not dark out so Paisley hasn't come out to play. Am I right?"
"Would you stop?" I almost snap. I cover my face with my hands to cool my cheeks off. I can't let people know I dressed up and went into public.
"Alright alright. I see you're embarrassed." James says backing off.
We walk in silence for a bit.
"Let me buy you a coffee." He says breaking the silence.
"What?" I ask. Yes coffee sounds good but with him? Now? What did I even put on for clothes? Wait. I am wearing clothes right? I look down to see my light grey knit long sleeve shirt, black leather pants and boots. Ahh I was able to think this morning.
"Well we will be up late so might as well right?" He asks.
"I guess you're right." I reply. But do I really want to be seen in public with him? What if one of his ex's show up. Wait. How many girls have I seen him with?
"I take it we are going to the only place in town that specializes in coffee?" James asks.
"If one wants good coffee then yes that's where one goes." I try sounding wise.
James let's out a laugh.
"What?" I ask.
"Nothing. Ah ha. You almost sounded like Aba." He snickers a little.
"Creep." I giggle a little.
"Recluse kitten." He quietly whispers in my ear before taking off in a run.
"You little!" I take off in a run after him.
It wasn't a far run at all but we end up at the Cafe. I'm a little sweaty but not out if breath. James has a little sweat around his collar.
"I guess today was a bit warm to run in long sleeves." He says trying to pull on his shirt to cool off.
"Just a touch." I say lightly pulling on my shirt. "I'm going to go to the bathroom real quick."
"Sounds good I will be here." James says.
I leave him at the entrance and go to the bathroom to clean up the sweat.
Walking out I see him sitting at one of the tall tables with 2 cups of coffee. Did I take too long? Did he find a girl? Or a girl find him? My heart is racing a little.
He waves me over. I walk up to the table and hop up on a chair.
"I got you their Carmel brew. If that's alright." He says handing me a cup.
"Thank you." I tell him calmly even though I'm really excited I have been wanting to try this one.
"So for tonight's training." James starts.
"Yes?"
"Try not to wear white. I don't want to be at fault for ruining your clothes." He says quietly while looking around.
"I wasn't planning on it." I told him.
"Also I'm curious." He looks at me almost concerned.
"What?" I asked concerned.
"I'm curious on if Paisley will grant me a visit or if it will be Hazel." He takes a sip of his coffee.
I look down at mine lost in thought. I don't want people to question me going to the training grounds at night. But do I really want to walk around dressed as a Meif'wa?
"Ummm." I'm a little scared to give him the answer in public. What if some one hears.
"You can tell me later. Well I should say show me later." He winks.
"Creep." I take a sip of my coffee. Looks like they just slapped the word brew on it because I have had this before. Still yummy but slight disappointment.
"Saw that one coming. How does 11pm sound for a start time?"
"That works for me." It's quiet for a minute as we sip on our coffee.
"You have plans for dinner?" Askes James.
"I should probably head back and make some dinner for my trainee." I tell him. Plus she hasn't met her quota for smoking the house out this week so it will probably be tonight if I'm not home.
"How is that going? I know you like training but she seems younger than the others you have worked with." James questions.
"She's.... she's alright. Always wanting to work. A fast learner for mana and can take a hit. The girl got slammed between one of those big lizards tails and a tree then walked it off."
"What?!" James is in shock. For it's a feat not many can do.
"Yea she also is light on her feet." I rub my face. "Last night she scared me twice. I had no idea she was in the kitchen. Twice."
"Sounds like you're having fun with her around at least." James sips on his coffee.
"Yea my life is a bit more lively with her around. But I should go." I hop off my chair. "See ya later. Thank you for the coffee."
"My pleasure. See you in a bit." He says staying in his seat.
I make my way home and get into the house. Setting my things down on the counter.
"Hi Hazel." Says Samantha.
And I about jump through the roof. When did she get into the kitchen?!
"Haha! Scared you again." Samantha smirks.
