Chapter 5:

Disappearance

Legend of Ionr

The next morning, Cint woke to the familiar noise of the camp. He stretched and rubbed his eyes, but something was off—his mother wasn’t here, and her sewing kit, was gone. His father was also nowhere in sight. Cint got out of the tent in a panic. His heart was pounding. He quickly looked around the camp he only saw the refugees moving around, some starting small fires for cooking, others chatting in groups. Cint spotted a familiar face, older man which arrived to limia with them. “Have you seen my parents?” Cint asked. The man said. “I saw your father at dawn. He went to the docks with a few of the other men, looking for work. But if you are asking your mother… I didn’t see her.”  His father was at the docks, but where was his mother? The camp wasn’t large, but it was crowded. She could be in the camp, he thought, trying to stay calm. Maybe she had gone into the city center to look for things to sew, or to ask around for work. “Thanks,” Cint said to the man, before going back toward their tent. He stopped for a moment, looking around the crowded camp. His father was down at the docks, at least he knew that. But the absence of his mother stressed him. Deciding he couldn’t just wait, Cint decidee to go to the city center, hoping he might spot his mother. The streets were just as busy as they had been the day before, with merchants setting up their stalls and people moving about in every direction. He made his way to the lower district, where the docks were. He scanned the crowd. To find his father among the workers. But It wasn’t successful. So he decided to continue look for her mother and returned to the upper district. He asked around the the street and checked every street corner he passed, but no one had seen her mother. As he neared the market district, Cint spotted a woman selling fabrics and sewing materials, but he couldn’t se her face so he decided to walk up to the stall. Maybe she came here to get supplies for sewing, Cint thought. He approached the stall. “Excuse me,” he said to the vendor. And described his mother and then asked if she had seen his mother. The vendor shook her head. ”I’ve seen a lot of people today, but I can’t say I remember anyone like that. I’m sorry.” He continued his search, checking every possible place his mother could be, Cint couldn’t shake the feeling that something was terribly wrong. His mother had never just disappeared before, not without telling him or his father. Where could she have gone? As night began to fall, he returned to the camp, he was really tired. There was still no sign of her mother. After a while his father also returned looking tired, but there was a small, satisfied smile on his face as he approached. “I found work, Cint,” he said, his voice filled with relief. “Down at the docks, it pays enough for us to get by for now.” Cint opened his mouth to respond, but the weight of the day’s events stopped him. His father was happy and he didn’t want to ruin his happiness. Then his father noticed Lana's absence, realized something was wrong, and asked Cint  "Where is your mother?" Cint replied, "I don't know, I looked for her all day, but I didn't see her". Evenon's expression changed from happy to worried. And said "We will look for her tomorrow, try to get some sleep".
