Chapter 4:
1970 - Killer Spouse
The rain poured down relentlessly, soaking Alex to the bone. He wore a hat, concealing his face, and a dark coat that clung to his body. The weight of the gun pressed against his back, hidden beneath his shirt. His heart pounded in his chest as he approached the house with the name board "Emma Stewart" displayed prominently. As he muttered under his breath
"I should finish her before she dig about anything more". The lights inside the house were on, casting a warm glow into the night. Alex's pulse quickened, a mix of dread and anticipation surging through him.
He needed that evidence; he had to clear everything up, no matter what. Gritting his teeth, he reached out and rang the doorbell, He stood in front of the door, the rain dripping from his mask and forming small puddles at his feet.
He took a deep breath and rang the doorbell, the chime echoing through the quiet night. His other hand gripping the gun tightly behind his back. He stood in front of the door, the rain dripping from his mask and forming small puddles at his feet.
Emma, freshly showered and in a short nightgown that hugged her curves, was startled by the unexpected ring of the doorbell. The house was dimly lit, and the gentle hum of the rain outside created a calming backdrop.
She wrapped a robe around herself, feeling slightly disheveled from the long day. As she opened the door, she was taken aback to see Alex standing there, drenched and looking more intense than she had ever seen him. Her heart skipped a beat as she took in his appearance—his wet hair under his hat, his serious expression, and the way the rain clung to his clothes. Alex's heart thumped erratically as he saw Emma. The sight of her—her wet hair cascading down her shoulders and the nightgown that accentuated her figure—made his resolve waver. He had planned on confronting her with cold precision, but the moment she opened the door, his emotions took over.
"Alex?" Emma's voice was a mix of surprise and confusion. She stared at him, her eyes wide with a mixture of emotions.
For a moment, they both stood there, flustered and unsure. The tension between them crackled in the air, charged by the storm outside and the secrets they both harbored. Emma's surprise at Alex's sudden visit was palpable, and Alex's struggle to maintain his composure was evident.
Without thinking, Alex's body moved on its own. He stepped forward, cupping Emma's face in his hands. Her skin was warm and soft against his wet cold palms. Before he could second-guess himself, he leaned in and kissed her, the rain and their surroundings melting away in the heat of the moment.
Emma's initial shock faded, and she responded to his kiss, her hands wrapping around his neck. Alex pushed her inside, kicking the door shut behind them. The sound of the lock clicking into place echoed through the hallway, a final barrier between them and the outside world.
