Chapter 13:

The Crown Of War

Champion's Ring

After the leaders of the battlefield came out, the rebelling army fought even more viciously due to the confidence boost they received from the appearance of their leaders. Chen Yi, as soon as he killed the Silver spirit warrior he was thrashing, turned his attention to the leaders of the rebellion.

He gave them an antagonistic stare and released the attack he had recently acquired Wind manipulation. He disrupted the direction of the wind that was keeping the masked leaders of the rebellion afloat. Although the attack did not require much of his stamina, it did mentally consume him. After seeing that Chen Yi was sweating from exhaustion, the leaders stood up and broke into devious smiles.

They rose up into the air and performed individual attacks. One was well versed in sneak attacks and so performed the Eyes of the abyss, which entranced enemies and surreptitiously attacked their souls. Another person used the skill Red Devils’ Barbarian FIsts, having specialized in brute force in close-quarter combat. To top it all off they seemed to be toying with him, as a predator would with its prey.

Chen Yi received the attacks calmly as if he had already seen through everything his opponents would do. His calmness unnerved his opponents. However, the confidence they had in their attacks made them dismiss their opponent’s credence in surviving.

Chen Yi used the powers he had received from the dragon god to dismiss the attacks. He used the stormy weather above him such that a lightning strike blocked the attack from the man about to attack him. While that man was dazed, he mustered up some mental fortifications inside his mind to protect against the mental attack that had reached his inner body.

(The system also helped him in his endeavour, in that it localised the internal damage as a “parasitic” system. This meant that it had the ability to spread the internal damage received over an area. Such knowledge was also used in Chen Yi’s previous world, where scientists learned about the properties of various silks to create strong tensile materials that were used, for example, to improve the strength of body armor. This was done as silk had a characteristic way of first softening and then stiffening when pulled due to its internal iterated repetitive fibroin protein structure that had smaller domains surrounding it, creating silk with outstanding mechanical functions. It had higher tensile strength than almost all other natural or man-made synthetic materials of the time. This meant that when it was used, the area in which the damage occurred just needed to be repaired instead of being replaced.)

His assailant briefly paused, hocked that their attackers were negated, in a seemingly fortuitous occurrence. This pause gave Chen Yi everything he needed. He traveled away from the assassin-like aggressor and using his large weight and large battle prowess as a tiger leaped onto the muscular man. He then brandished his fearsome claws and swiped on the man’s chest, almost fatally wounding him if not for him swiftly using a defensive trump card.

The woman tried to get an attack in while Chen Yi was busily wounding her comrade; It didn’t work.

Jumping away from the duo, Chen Yi gave himself enough space to test a hypothesis. He used power transmutation to combine weather manipulation and water manipulation. He made it rain more intensely such that the battlefield began to be filled with small puddles, hindering the sight of both his allies and his enemies and then combining the skill to extract water from the puddles to create weapons made with water.

The system suddenly exclaimed inside Chen Yi’s head, “Congratulations to the host for upgrading the skill Water manipulation. Skill has been upgraded to Water manipulation level 2 where you have greater control over water. All water manipulated by you also has greater defensive and offensive abilities. ”

Chen Yi smiled with glee, making his opponents’ hearts palpitate with scary premonitions of what was about to happen. Utilising the upgrade of the skill, he “forced” lightning from the clouds to electrocute his adversaries. The pain was not life-threatening, but it inhibited them from thinking, interrupting the use of their swords. The funny sight of silver spirit stage cultivators being kept at bay by an emperor body stage was extremely funny.

Just when Chen Yi was going to continue the comical torture, his smile froze and he slowly turned around. He found that his abdomen was wounded. It leaked blood profusely. The one that caused said wound also leaked something, but it wasn’t blood, it was a menacing smile. Chen Yi found that his systems were shutting down, unable to cope with such a large loss of blood. Chen Yi fainted.

As the battle raged on, the exhaustion started catching up with him and everyone on the battlefield, the ground was bloodied and stained red, the sky was a dark blue color, the battle had been raging on for hours, as time passed, there were more and more casualties on both sides of the battlefield. It was as if the devil was there, twisting turning the people into his puppets, his marionettes, for his pleasure.

The opposing army rejoiced at the death of Chen Yi. They battled with even more fervour and rampaged across the battlefield, certain that victory was in reach. All of Chen Yi’s comrades retaliated. By retreating. Morale was at its lowest and it caused even more deaths.

The system suddenly exclaimed within its host’s semi-conscious mind: “ Unprecedented circumstance occurring: Host is advised to wake up.”

A roar resounded throughout the battlefield, making the armies pause in their tracks. They looked back to see a small creature in the sky, basking in the air in front of the sun. It roared once again. It seemed to command everything in nature, by forcing things to obey and succumb to it. The wind itself started to violently blow through the house with a powerful passion, its currents ravaging the stupefied soldiers, suspended in reality.

Then, the chaos began.
