Chapter 20:
Tsurihito's Bride
"Huh... what..?" That didn't quite sink in with me. What the heck is he talking about?? "What do you freaking mean!?!"
"The thing in front of you is a ghost!!! Get back!!"
Takuma had an iron spear in his hand... I was afraid for her... what is he trying to do..? I had to stop it.
"Let go of me!!" I yelled as I tried to reach her. She was afraid too looking at Takuma. He was looking like a bloodthirsty serial killer, an avenger... But I couldn't get out of Teiji's grip this time... He had support, five people held me down in place. They were my classmates.
"We are doing this for your good, Katsuhito! So just stay here and don't do any freaking thing!!" Satoshi was holding me down too. It felt humiliating... just so when I happened to save her, I am unable to do the same right now. Her face... her terrified face aches my heart. I couldn't bear it, but I couldn't not bear it too...
Why the heck are they doing this!! What wrong did she do!!? She is alive then why are they saying that she is not!!
"You... you are the one... who killed them..." Takuma growled. Everyone went silent as he charged at her with his full force. Tears came into my eyes... it is painful to watch... why... why are you doing this... she was back just now... at least treat her with kindness just as she did with everyone else...
"What..." Takuma and us were shocked too. This time my mind came back to reality, questioning the reality itself.
"Did Takuma just... phase through her..?", I murmured in disbelief.
"Saw that Katsuhito!? You saw that!? She is not alive!! She died two months ago!!" Satoshi yelled. I didn't want to believe it.
"What... the heck..." I don't believe it. "Then how the heck was I able to interact with her for two months!!?!?" I yelled back.
Teiji slapped my head in anger. "You were hallucinating all this time!! Why don't you understand such a simple matter!! Sensei arranged this trip to try to bring you back to reality, and he died because of that!!"
I didn't want to say that that was true... but the image in front of me was undeniable proof. Takuma was still trying to charge at her, but he is constantly fading through her very body.
"Why... why the heck didn't you tell me this before..." Everyone went silent. The thought of her being dead was not sinking in, maybe it never will. But my mind kept that information in the shelf of my brain. She was not alive, she never was... it was all a dream...
No- a nightmare... a nightmare that kept me happy for two months... my happy nightmare...
"That's because... you were so close to being dead that we were afraid... that you would kill yourself..." Teiji said in a low voice. "You should've looked at you during that time... you kept yourself in your room for three days without food or drink the day she died. And after that when you got out, you looked like a zombie, but happy. You were hallucinating from the day you got out of that room, saying that Airi-chan was now staying with you!!"
I looked forward. It might be true. That gravestone with her name in it looked fimiliar.
Takuma placed his feet on her grave just a few seconds after. It was weird, he stopped launching attacks on her. He was examining something.
He looked at the name of the grave that he was standing on. He looked at her and jumped on the grave. I was angry.
"Airi... chan..." My eyes went blurry. Is she really not alive? Not just a tiny bit? Where was the hope that I have seen before? Please... I want it to be a joke... maybe they are joking... Airi-chan is coughing loudly too...
Takuma grinned evil. "Haha... looks like a ghost like you have it's weaknesses." His actions were not looking good.
I yelled. "Stop joking with me!! She is real!!"
Teiji smacked my head harder this time. "Shut the freak up Katsuhito!! Fifty people have already died because of it!!"
That was news for me. That old receptionist said that, I remembered. The people who touched water will slowly die now that the Tsurihito's Bride was initiated.
Takuma pierced through the earth with the big iron spear that he was holding, directly underneath his feat, on her, Airi-chan's grave. A hole suddenly opened through her chest, and a gush of blood poured from her body, or the ghost that everyone was calling, as she fell down face down on the ground.
Everyone celebrated his victory... I mourned her defeat...
Airi-chan was gone two months ago, she was gone now too. She... was gone.... gone forever...
