Chapter 1:

Fetus

Healer Of The Crevice

Ash on the other hand, was a shy child. He always stuck with his parents like glue, while others went out to explore and see how they could survive the new planet they have birthed on. Thats why the progeny of Ash couldn't evolve into Homo martians and stayed as Homo sapiens, a species weaker but stronger in their mind.

For the Homo sapiens, or in easy terms humans, their emotions is the single most powerful thing. It is that separates them from the rest of the animals. For this reason, they are respected by the Martians and kept in utopias called "Fetus" where they can enjoy their lives to the fullest. Humans' population is decreasing in Mars too, which is not a good sign as we might see them extinct in a few years or so."

"Enjoy their lives, huh.." Sora finally closed the book, A Complete History of the origin of Homo martians. Artificial winds whirled up around him as it ran in circles inside the garden. It was afternoon time, but this place feels like day at any time of the day. He was sitting under a tree and was reading the book for the past hour, without any sign of slumber.

"I don't know how people sleep at noon." He looked at others in the garden, fast asleep. "It is funny considering the fact that we are meant to enjoy ourselves here, but the only thing I can feel is boredom."

The garden was limited with walls around it, like a cage. How is this a utopia? This is a cage, entrapping humans inside and killing them of boredom, or so Sora thought.

Afternoon time was the most boring time of the day, as none would be there to chat or spend time with him. All of them that were sleeping inside the garden were Sora's childhood friends, people he have grown up with, all of them being male.

"I have to cut my hair..." he twisted his overgrown hair with the book set aside. The white hair flashed in the bright lights as another light, reflecting the lights around him, a false light.

"When were we supposed to have our selection phase again? I guess it was tomorrow..." he looked up the sky, which was just a concrete roof. "Sixteen years gone by so fast... I guess this is what they meant by living in utopias."

As far as he enjoyed living in the utopia— except the afternoon time— the other side of it scared him. Living in a utopia, humans undergo changes of various natures that they wouldn't otherwise. The experiments show it very well. The most thing that scares him was "The Utopia Experiment" book's 57th number experiment that showed that humans will tend to cannibalise if they are kept in utopias for long amount of time.

Luckily they won't die in other people's stomach, as they are closely monitored through cctvs mounted everywhere, and their Homo martian tutors are there to help them too.

"Why does afternoons need to exist? I don't like it at all..."

"You don't like sleeping in the afternoon, but you are the one first to sleep at night."

"Sensei!" Sora was surprised by the sudden sound of someone talking. It was their Homo martian teacher. "Is it wrong?"

She laughed. "Nope. That's good too!"

"That's good."

"You are reading that book for many years now." She looked at the book that became an ancient artifact. "Do you find that interesting?"

"Yes." He exclaimed. "History is interesting. I wonder what if felt like when they lived in earth." He repeatedly removed his white hair from his eyes.

"Looks like you need a hair cut."

"I think so too, sensei."

"Anyway, remember that your selection phase is going to be held tomorrow, so be mentally ready, okay? I am going out for a bit."

"Okay sensei."

Sora lied down on the ground. He placed his hand up to the air, as if he were trying to grab something. "Tomorrow, huh... I wonder what would happen tomorrow." He rolled around. "I can't help but feel excited...
