Chapter 6:

Heart/Heart

Experience II

I stood behind her as I looked at her beating heart drip blood in her hands. She spoke of manifesting, could this be what she meant? Am I able to do something like that?

Two of the other men were occupied fighting Dr. Vex, while the one who spoke to us initially, had yet to move. He stood there observant and in no rush to move it seemed like. Maybe he was equally as curious as I was. Or wary. Either way, it was unsettling.

The hole in her chest remained free of blood and open, as if it had always been there. Like it was a part of her body. She squeezed her heart and drained it of all the liquid inside, wincing at the action. Slowly, the once heart started to mold into a long, metallic red sword that she wielded on her right shoulder blade. The edge was a bright red that reflected against the lone light that shined above us with a dark red hilt at its base. It was huge. There was no way anyone was strong enough to hold this, let alone use it.

"Pay attention Experience II! It will be for your benefit! Can you stop?! I'm talking!" He screamed from above, dodging a kick to the head while throwing a punch that knocked one of the men out of sight.

Daiya drew her sword, in wait of the man. But he surprisingly did nothing. I had to hide. This was my opportunity. It's obvious that I'm of no use to either Daiya or Dr. Vex. I wish I was of some use. There was still an empty space left in the wall from when Dr. Vex threw that man in there. I should be safe until th-

"Don't move." The man appeared behind me. I felt a ray of heat piercing my temple. When did he get there?

Dr. Vex bolted from the air to intercept but was kicked back into the wall with the two men following inside.

"Our report doesn't speak of this. Retrieve the ones with no light. Threat level low. Precaution of Dr. Amosoly Vex. What is that-" Before he could finish, Daiya swung her sword right at his head, but he blocked it with his hand, turning it yellow upon the touch. I escaped from underneath his grip and ran for the hole.

My stomach started to turn into knots again and I kept slipping in all the liquid at my feet. I could hardly stand yet she stayed on the ground. Why did I feel that similarity between us? Because Dr. Vex called her Experience IIII and me Experience II? She's strong, nothing like me. All I have is this useless body that can't even walk properly. Skin that's too cracked. Hands that are too small. That emptiness, I felt it from her too but she's, I don't understand.

I don't like this feeling.

I crawled into the hole and hid behind the wall, only peering outside to see what was happening. I wish I could be of more help, but I think staying out of the way is better for the both of them.  At first, all I could see were red and yellow sparks clashing back and forth until I adjusted my glasses.

The man shot a yellow beam at her, but she blocked it with a single swing of her sword. With a slight of her hand, the sword transformed into some sort of red gun. She jumped back and shot red liquid towards the man who dodged all of them, appearing behind her and kicked her back a few meters. He looked my direction and started to walk towards me until he got shot in the head, knocking him down momentarily. Daiya walked past the hole I crawled into.

"Don't be afraid. There's always something you can do. Sometimes nothing is the best answer," She whispered to me. All her words carried some type of warmth to them, almost as if she meant what she was saying. I couldn't tell.

The man let off a barrage of light beams in her direction and she matched all of them with the red bullets of her own. She could fight someone this strong all by herself meanwhile I'm in the corner, scared for my life and unable to do anything. If I had only been born someone different, maybe I could've been useful.

He jumped in front her, throwing a punch that she blocked then threw her own that he parried as he swept her feet from underneath him. Instantly, her gun turned back into a sword and with a single slash from below, cut the man in half. The lower half of his body dissipated and reformed with the top of the other half as he stood up.

The man got up and took a step towards Daiya, but something seemed different. He held his side for a moment and made a slight grimace. "What are you? My reports speak nothing-" He didn't even finish his sentence before she kicked him in the same spot where she cut him at, as he flew back a few feet. He was slow to get up before he saw a red sword pointed at his neck. "What?! Impossible! Why can't I teleport?!" he babbled.

"Why are you after me? What does Experience have to do with any of this? Why me? Why does everyone keep staring at me, getting close then running away? Who sent you?" Daiya asked the man.

He looked confused, which was confusing. They seemed like reasonable questions; even if it was unlikely, you were to get any answer out of him. I, too, wanted to know. But she actually asked them, even though she was afraid. "WHO ARE YO-"

All I saw was a yellow light beam go through the man's body as he evaporated into particles. That face he made, right before he died. I knew that face. It was the same one that I wore all these years. It was one of a person that can't seem to understand. Only now had it ever occurred to me that other people might've felt the same way as I do. Until the end, he died knowing nothing. Will I share the same fate? Hating this body until the bitter end? It seems likely, after all, one can't change their nature. Right?

"Wooooooo! Experience IIII-"

"Daiya, please. Daiya is my name now."

"Okay, okay. Sorry. For all these years it's the only name you've had. It'll take some time." Dr. Vex said as he came from out of the hole in the wall with two heads in his hands. "Government lapdogs, am I right? Hahahaha! Exp-uh, I mean, Daiya! Who knew?! You've gotten a lot stronger since the last time, eh? It was those moves I taught you, right? Right? Right?"

"No, I've been training...on my own," she turned towards me. I was still in the hole, unsure if it was safe to get out until she approached me and offered her hand. Heat radiated from her skin, and it felt nice. I want to touch her, just to see what it felt like. I can't. Not yet. But maybe, maybe one day I'll be able to understand a little more. "You can get out now. It's...safe. Right Dr. Vex?" he nodded, "And Dr. Vex, can you let us out of this place? It's quite disgusting."

"Not yet, there's some things I want to tell the both of you." The two heads in his hands dissipated as he sat down against the rubble that remained. "More and more people are going to come after us, I'm sorry but this is the path that I've chosen. I have to know. What life was like. I can't stand having this...this...block!" He smashed his hand against the wall, creating another hole.

"Who-who, uh, who am I?" They both turned towards my direction. It shocked me. Did I ask that? I did want to know, why I have this body and why everyone seemed to despise it. Why it felt so cold and why was there another me. People who stared at me, with no sense of knowing or remembrance. It hurt so much.

"It's a question everyone wants to know, a question that has yet to be solved in 1000 years," he stated matter of fact. "But the good news is," he smiled as he teleported in the air, "We're one step closer! Isn't that right, Experience IIII, my good friend?!?!"

"It's Daiya."

An odd pairing. Maybe it isn't so bad to have someone around. A friend is a person who shares a bond, huh? I want to understand what that means.

Maybe that will tell me who I am.
