Chapter 4:

A storm is coming

Eclipse

4 hours ago before present
"I should be there with them, to protect them if something happens" said a middle aged man in hat, gloves and a cloak urgently.
"Nothing will happen uncle Grildward" said Kenji, looking out of the window. They were sitting in a small wooden bar, mildly famous in the kingdom of Celisia.
"Only me and Denry know where the cabin is, no one will get there. And Isabelle is strong" he added.
"I know but" said the man in concern, "But it's not like she is alone there. If she was alone I wouldn't have been worried, she would have handled it, but she is not alone! She has got baby Aldric with her, she can't fight with him around!"
"I understand but" said Kenji with a hesitation, "I... I can't take risk"
"What do you-!" Grildward started in frustration but realized he was too loud. He toned down, careful not to draw eyes or ears, and said in a lower voice, "What do you mean risk? It's me! Don't you trust me?"
Kenji didn't say anything, just stared out of the window in hesitation.
Grildward was taken aback by it for a moment but he understood what the matter was. He sat back, a hurt on his face, and sighed, adjusting his hat, and said, "Ok, so be it"
There was silence for a while, then Kenji got up saying, not able to look at Grildward, "I... I'll get going" to which Grildward didn't say anything, he just sat with his hat on his eyes and after a while Kenji started to leave. But before he passed the table Grildward said, "I know you're hiding something". He understood, the reason Kenji didn't tell him about it wasn't distrust, but this. Though he had no idea what, but he was sure Kenji was hiding something, it was all over his face.
"Just know that... they will be safe" said Kenji gravely, tapping Grildward's shoulder, and then giving a sigh of unsettling feelings he walked out of the bar door, while Grildward sat there silently.
But he had already decided he would not just sit ideally, he will follow them, in his own way. He got up too and left out of the bar door, stubborn to protect his friends. Because he had a bad feeling... something wrong was going on.
something seriously wrong.
*
Present
Two people were walking in heavy rain on a deserted road, woods on one side and green lands on the other, under the dark sky which lighted up on moments of lighting and thunder. They both had an umbrella on, one of them was Grildward, in dark tall coat, gloves and hat, and other was a lean young boy, about 18, with curly orange hair.
"Remember what all I told you Jun" said Grildward, "We stay low"
"I remember master!" said the guy with determination, energetic as always, "Stay low and don't let Isabelle find we are following her, understood!"
"If you're that loud she'll find out anyway" said Grildward with a sigh, and Jun's eye's widened as he realized and tightened his lips.
They walked for a while and then Grildward took off one of the gloves on one of his hands, other holding the umbrella, and there was a small stone at the center of his palm, coming out of his skin like it was stuck to it. He closed his eyes and concentrated, and the stone glowed in a yellow light, as Yun's eyes widened looking at it in wonder like a child even though he has seen it happen a thousand times. "We are close" said Grildward opening back his eyes, and put back his gloves as the stone stopped glowing.
He was right, after walking a few distance he could see light shining through the heavy rain, and after some distance he could see it coming from the window of the small cabin where Isabelle and baby Aldric were there. But as they got closer to the cabin slowly, Grildward said with concern, "I feel something off"
"What is it master?" asked Jun.
"I don't know, but there's something wrong" and after thinking for a while said, "I think we should check inside"
Jun's eyes widened as he said, "But what if she sees us?"
"We have to take the risk Jun" said Grildward as they closed to the cabin.
But as they got closer, they could hear loud cries of baby Aldric even above the noise of the rain. This alarmed Grildward and Jun and both of them ran to the house in concern and fear, which increased when they saw the front class window broken. Grildward knew it, something was seriously wrong.
They stopped in front of the broken window and looked in, only to be shocked. In the cradle was baby Aldric wailing and Isabelle was on the floor, unconscious, with a piece of paper and a tape recorder beside her.
"Isabelle!" shouted Grildward in terror and rushed to the door, throwing his umbrella away and breaking in through with one shoulder blow, Jun following behind him. "Isabelle" he said in concern and fell to his knees beside her, taking her head on his lap, gently shaking her to wake her up but she won't wake up. He checked, she was breathing to a little relief of him, and then searched around to find a water pot in one corner out of his reach.
He looked at Jun and said "Jun! Get me som-" but stopped as he noticed Jun was standing there like a statue, his eyes wide and the piece of paper in his hand. His face was white and hands were trembling.
"Jun" said Grildward but Jun didn't listen, so he called again "Jun!" to which Jun suddenly snapped out and turned his face to Grildward, his mouth quivering. "What happened?" asked Grildward.
Jun spoke with a shaky voice, almost about to cry, "De... Den... Denry is... D-Denry is D- uh..." he took in a deep breath as tears rolled down his eyes, and said, "Denry is dead!"
Grildward didn't accept it the first time. "Say that again" he said with wide eyes and arched eyebrows.
"See!" said Jun, crying and trembling, and handed the paper to Grildward who took it with confusion and a rising fear in his heart which felt heavy. He read.
"Isabelle
I'm sorry. Denry is dead."
He stopped right there. He read that line again, and again, and again, not being able to believe. His breaths rose, his body started to shake. "That's..." he said out his a shaking voice, colors fading off his face, "Th... That's not p... possible... how...". He was trying to catch his breath as Denry's smiling face flashed in front of his eyes. It was too much to take in so suddenly. Jun on the other side had fallen to his knees and was crying, his hands on the his face. "It's... It's Kenji! He's the one who wrote it" said Jun through his crying.
Grildward read on, trembling, his chest getting heavy as tears formed around his eyes
"I couldn't save Denry. I was too late.
I have failed you, I have failed Denry, I couldn't protect a friend. And though I don't have the right to ask for your forgiveness, I hope in future you and young Aldric forgive me. And don't worry, I will take care of you and Aldric, and I will get revenge on the man who did this. Denry's death will not be for nothing.
I'm sorry.
Kenji"
The paper fell from his trembling hands as tears rolled down from his eyes. A mixture of confusion and torturous sorrow pained him, his heart ached as he slowly started to realize that this was reality, Denry was actually dead. That's why Isabelle was unconscious, she couldn't handle the shock.
That's when Isabelle grunted in pain and said out "Den...", her head on his lap, snapping him out. "Jun get some water!" he said loudly, snapping Jun out who was crying. He first looked around in confusion but then got up instantly and went to the water pot, filled a glass and ran back to Grildward.
"Mop your tears and stop crying!" said Grildward to Jun mopping his own tears, his eyes red, forcing himself not to cry. He grabbed the paper and the tape recorder and kept them in his inner court pocket.
"But... Denry" said Jun in tears.
"Do it!" snapped Grildward and Jun mopped his tears, forcing in a straight face.
Grildward took some water from the glass and splashed it on Isabelle's face. She squinted her face a bit and then slowly opened here eyes. She looked around, eyes half closed, and then looked at Grildward and said, "Unc... Uncle Grildward... you"
"Yes Isabelle, It's me" he said forcing a smile.
"D... Den.... Den" she said out, still half conscious.
Grildward was having a hard time holding his tears while Jun was facing the other side because he couldn't hold it. It was eating Grildward from inside, it was too much to bear, but he clenched his teeth and pushed it back and said with a smile, "Denry is fine!"
"But... the letter... It said D... Den... Den" a painful expression was forming on her face as her eyes filled with tears.
"Noth-" he hesitated but still forced it out, "Nothing happened to him, Denry is alive and he's coming soon!"
"B... But the letter"
"There's no letter.... It was an illusion... someone's behind you, it was a trick" said Grildward. It was torturous to smile lies while keeping something so devastating inside, but he beared it. He had no choice but to lie because if he told Isabelle that Denry was actually dead she'll be uncontrollable and they need to get out of there because it was dangerous, if Denry was killed it's only a matter of time before they turn up to Isabelle and Aldric in their cabin.
She sighed in relief, a faint smile on her face, and said, "Oh... thank god..." but she heard Aldric crying and said out in concern, "Aldric!" trying to get up, but Grildward held her back and said, "No need to get up" and looked at Jun, who had somehow handled himself enough to hide his cries by now, to get the baby. He went to little Aldric who was crying and as he took the baby in his arms, the thought that this beautiful child just lost his father made it even harder for him to hold back his tears. When he handed Aldric to Isabelle, who had now sat up, still feeling weak, she noticed a tear roll down his eyes and asked in concern, gently caressing baby Aldric as he slowly calmed down, "What happened Jun?"
Jun couldn't say anything so Grildward covered up saying, "It's nothing, maybe it's late must be tired" and before Isabelle could say anything he said, distracting her, "Whoever tricked you with such lie wanted you down when they arrive. Glad we made in time, they must be on their way here, we must move"
"Yes..." said Isabelle slowly getting up with baby Aldric in her arms, asleep, "There's no way Den will be de-" she couldn't say it, her heart stopped beating for a second, "Uffff... He's alright. Den is alright... I just hope he comes home soon... god, thank god it was just a nasty trick" and then added, an anger on her face, "Whoever did this must pay..."
Grildward couldn't say anything to it, he would cry if he did, Jun was already facing the other side. He just said, lowering his hat to hide his teary eyes, "We.... we should get moving"
"Wait a second!" said Isabelle and went to her table. She grabbed her diary and then, from the box beside, a small pendant, a crystal with a red taint at it's end. "There's no time to take everything but these... whatever goes, these must not be destroyed" she said, handing them to Grildward, "take these"
Grildward put them in his pocket, his hat still low, not being able to hold back because he knew what they were.
Isabelle kissed her ring and kept her hand on her chest and said, "ahh... I just hope Den is alright... That letters scared me... uffff... God, protect my Den... I hope he is fine, Uncle Grildward... I can't live without him..."
"He" Grildward almost broke out in tears, he pushed back and said without looking, "he's fine"
The rain had stopped and they walked out of the broken door. Isabelle with baby Aldric in her arms, Grildward and Jun on both of their sides.
That's when suddenly stopped, they felt a presence appear behind them. A very negative presence.
"What's the hurry!" said someone with a sinister voice.
They turned around to find three people, two men and a woman, standing in from of them. Three monsters. One on the left was man wearing loose shirt, his hands abnormally long and crooked falling loosely in front of him, his back crouched and a bunch of hair falling in front of him, hiding his face, making him an image from nightmares.
The girl on the right wore a tight red short and pants, her eyebrows and ears pierced, her hair blond tied into a bun, thin long thrones stuck into them, and with blue lips she was licking her knife with a heinous smile, looking straight at them.
And the man in the center, the true evil, a lean man appearing like a silhouette, black shredded cloak and hood, his mouth completely black from the inside, black drool like tar oozing out of his mouth, which had chilling sinister smile like a nightmare. His hands and face were pale grey, like he was a dead body, and crow hat on his shoulders
Grildward and the others looked up as a huge bunch of crows started to fly in circles above them, cawing loudly, Baby Aldric had started to cry again, and they looked back at the sinister man as he stepped forward.
"Please don't go away!" he said with his wide black heinous grin, spreading his arms, "The party is just getting started!"
