Chapter 3:
Remember Death
I woke up later but this time I was moving. Rubbing my eyes to clear my vision I could see I was sitting in the back seat of a car. My memory was foggy, so I was confused. It all came back to me then, Mr. Hato, Blake Malcom, everything.
“I-is Malcolm alright.”
No answer, I must have talking quietly as I had just woken up.
“Mr. Hato—I mean Hataru.”
“Yes.”
“Was Malcolm ok.”
“Yes Dante, I brought his to Mrs. Dawkins as shortly after you had fallen asleep. He should be completely fine.”
*sigh of relief*
“Where are we going?” I asked.
“Back to my hotel, why”
“Just curious.”
“We don’t leave for Japan for at least three more days.”
“Oh good, can you take me back to see Malcolm and say goodbye.”
“No need for that, look in the compartment next to you.”
I opened the small middle compartment of Mr. Hatos car. Inside there was a small gift.
“What’s this Mr. Hato.”
“Why don’t you open it and find out, also I told you to call me Hataru.”
“Oh sorry, it just seems so weird calling you by your first name, seeing as we just met just a day ago.”
“I stopped you from killing a boy, I believe were past first name basis.”
“Your right…”
There was a pause.
“Open the gift already.”
“Oh—Alright.”
I unwrapped the gift carefully. We didn’t get gifts often back at the orphanage, so I was always careful with the wrapping paper and the gift. I peeled back the wrapping paper slowly and to my complete surprise it was the newest smartphone, A SmartSung 21. I had heard about these recently, apparently, they were super expensive and had a really good camera.
“Mr. Hataru you didn’t have to buy me one of these you know, I’d be completely happy with no gift at all.”
“No, no its alright, you seemed like such good friends with that Malcolm kid that I wanted you two to stay in touch.”
“You bought one for Malcolm too! Mr. Hataru, I thought these were insanely expensive.”
“Again, don’t worry about it, I have more money than I know what to do with.”
I opened the phone to find a setup sequence, in which I had heard was common with most phones. I was confused because I had rarely ever used a computer let alone a smartphone.
“Mr. Hataru, how do you set up one of these.”
“Just follow the on screen instruct—Oh wait you probably don’t have an email or even know all that much about electronics.”
I nodded.
“Well then I’ll help you set it up when we get to the hotel, how about that.”
“Ok.”
We didn’t talk the rest of the ride after that. I just stared out the window at the passing by landscape. The trees were pretty and vibrant, though it may have been my eyes as I didn’t go outside much. As we drove I though of how I had tried to kill Blake. Was I really prepared to kill him? I didn’t know, all I knew is that I was angry, angrier than I had ever been, so much so that I had acted on impulse and hadn’t even thought. I guess that answers my question then. I also remembered Mr. Hato’s movement; it was incredibly fast, almost like a flash step that I had read about in a manga called Bleach.

We were getting closer to the hotel. The road had become thinner and there was only one lane now. We were in the city closest to the one the orphanage was in. We drove for at least two miles before we came upon a tall white building, with the name of “Four Seasons.” I assumed this was the hotel.
Mr. Hato pulled up in front of the building and asked me to get out, along with getting out himself. He gave the key to the car to man a man wearing a collared blue suit with a white striped button down underneath. We both walked through the hotel doors. I was greeted by a homely scent, and that of new furniture.
“Ah- Mr. Hato good to see you again, and who is this accompanying you?” asked a man behind what was a white desk that looked like the marbles in the rec room.
“Oh, that’s right I never notified you that I would be adopting a child today. This is Dante. Dante this is Jefferson, the receptionist at this hotel.”
“Hello Mr. Jefferson.”
“Hello Dante. Mr. Hato would you like us to upgrade you to accompany your new companion.”
“Yes, thank you for asking.”
“Well, it does happen to be my job. Anyways I will be upgraded you to a double suite with two queen beds and a small kitchen, will that be alright sir?”
“Yes, that’ll be splendid.”
“Wonderful Mr. Hato, here’s your room key along with a spare, the Wi-Fi password and the front desk phone number. If you need anything else don’t hesitate to call the desk. Have a wonderful night.”
“You as well, take care of yourself.”
We walked from the front desk down a hall towards two metal doors. Mr. Hato’s shoes clacked loudly against the tile floor. When we got to the doors, Mr. Hato pushed a button with an up arrow marked on it. We waited and the one of the sets of doors opened to a small box. Mr. Hato stepped inside, and I followed. He pushed another button marked with the number three. We started to ascend. The box beeped three times before it stopped moving and the doors opened. There were two well lit hallways one to the left, and one to the right. Mr. Hato walked down the left one and stopped at a room marked 304. The door handle looked funny, as there was a small black box with a red light. Mr. Hato swiped the card given to him earlier informant of the box and the light turned green. He opened the door. Once again I was met with the smell of new furniture.
“Stay here Dante I’m going to go get my stuff from my previous room. It’ll take thirty minutes tops.”
“Alright.”
Mr. Hato left again. I took this chance to explore the room. There was a TV and two rooms opposite each other from the main room. I went into the one on the left. There was abed inside as well as another TV, a closet and my own bathroom. I looked in the other room as well, It was nearly Identical, except slightly bigger. I figured Mr. Hato would take this room. I lay on the bed in the smaller room, until I heard the clack of the door lock and Mr. Hato return.
“You have quite the bit of stuff Mr. Hataru.”
“I’m aware, I had to carry it all here. I’ll help you set up your phone once I get myself organized, ok.”
“Alright.”
