Chapter 6:
Raceblazers
No way.
This couldn’t be real.
“I decided to follow up on that gift I was going to give you when we were in Wisteliah. The place you want to go to, it seems like the perfect way to do that now. Cherry was a bit worried after telling me what you were looking at before I got there. But, if you are fine with the idea, Hisa requested to join in and supervise you. Her words, not mine. Think you can handle it?”
Having to make this choice did not sit too well with Chelbie. Regardless of whether or not she would have preferred going alone this time, like Styra said before, she would have to sacrifice her original plans.
“Fine, fine, fine… Hisa can come. How bad can it be anyway right? I mean, you guys are coming along to watch too, right?”
A look of doubt began to cross Styra’s face when she heard this being mentioned.
“Remember when I said that we were able to hang out and relax until things got serious? Well, Eternika told me it now needs my help to find Voltaze and The Eternal Light that went missing while you were passed out. It has gotten a lot more urgent this time around. Cherry is coming too. Overall, this means it might be awhile before we figure out where they went. Since it’s really a tight knit mission, you can do your own thing and tell us how it goes. If anything comes up as an emergency, we’ll need you to come and help us.”
The sadness Chelbie felt from hearing this was heartbreaking yet understandable to an extent.
“Alright… Ya know I’ll come right away if it gets that bad. I’ve been waitin’ for round 3 with that guy anyways. Hopefully I can take care of that as soon as possible.”
Styra nodded in agreement as she got ready to leave when a sudden thought crossed her mind.
“Oh yeah, one last thing… If you find any traces of Voltaze or something else important in that world you’re going to, lay low and report it to us. Fair game?”
Chelbie smiled from ear to ear upon noticing what she had been waiting to hear.
“Fair game. See ya later best friend.”
The words echoing from within Cherry’s room began to warm Styra’s soul as she closed the door gently.
Examining the application further, Chelbie noticed that according to what it said, President Daylight prepared outer space pods for tomorrow morning on top of a special building called the Auxom Space Station in Centreplex City to those who filled out their forms.
Luckily, she did remember passing by the place when first entering Animearth’s atmosphere with her friends.
There were plenty of things to question about how everything was going to operate though.
How would she be able to bring every single vehicle she ever owned to that world? Her three favorite ones were the MadCyke motorbike, Stealthsteel Trike, and (to no one’s surprise) the Flamethrottle Fury.
Not only that but, she would need to pack all of her tools into a toolbox.
She knew that it was also necessary to navigate more around Revv’s most infamous streets so she could understand where to go when driving to and back from the Blazethon’s racing headquarters.
Last but not least however, the part of this that concerned her the most was if she would have to join a team or go solo. Part of her hoped she could do it alone, with Hisa tagging along as someone to keep her company and cheer her on.
If she did have to join a team, her chances of succeeding were best to be utilized as much as they would need her.
In a way, if she won the Blazethon, Lucila would easily get jealous once she rubbed this victory in her face. Chelbie intended to get her riled up into a losing fit anyway.
It sounded like the perfect revenge plan in her head.
Laying down flat on the bed, a sudden idea popped up that changed her perspective on how she was thinking of handling her unfinished business in Revv.
Chelbie could remember the nightmares she had and it made her wonder if it was some sort of premonition. For as unusual as it was, the way it happened felt more personal than any other dream she had dreamt of.
Maybe something really dangerous was looming in Revv.
Closing her eyes as she went soundly asleep, a certain memory began to kick in which specifically haunted her. The lingering silence and beeping of a heart monitor woke her into a frenzy before witnessing the loss of her legs at that time.
Caressing each knee carefully, the clicking of those familiar big boots quickly shifted her eyes towards the door. There stood a large shadowy figure who stood unmoving in front of the entrance.
“What do ya want?” she asked in a firm manner.
She felt stuck and almost on the verge of hopelessness when she saw the figure walking steadily until it stopped for a bit to give her this cryptic message from its hollow yet robotic voice.
“Look outside,” said the hulking automaton.
Although she was uncomfortable with this request, Chelbie pushed herself around to see through the window out of curiosity. She began to notice the clamoring of people running away with fear in their eyes. They were crowding the area in all directions across the streets, frantically unable to find an exit amidst all of the chaos.
Staring above into the sky however, a humongous, colorful, and ethereal structure glowed beyond where it could be seen. Underneath it was an enormous pitch black eye that seemed to suck the color out of the world and into itself.
“What the hell is that thing?! We gotta stop it!” yelled Chelbie
Turning back around to ask for help, she instead found Lucila standing right in front of her bed.
“You don’t get to stop it from happening Chelbie. You never could.”
Instantaneously after these words were said, a strong powerful wind dematerialized everything including the walls which had once held Chelbie secure inside. Falling towards the floor in an attempt to escape the monstrous storm, she immediately lost control as the windy conditions violently pushed her up into the air.
Staring at its strange and unsettling nature for too long began to unveil every mesmerizing yet unpleasant feeling she could ever have imagined.
Disastrous as it was though, there was no going back from what she was experiencing as she approached The Eye.
