Chapter 14:

The Mysterious Keeper

Devil's Curse

As Kenjiro and his group made their way back to the Kurei-Kage stronghold from the outpost, the forest around them seemed to grow darker and more ominous. The eerie calls of deadly birds echoed through the trees, and an uneasy feeling settled over the group. Suddenly, a figure emerged from the shadows, wearing a sharp-pinned black hat and a long, dark cloak. His face was obscured by the cloak, revealing only his red eyes, which glowed with a malevolent intensity. In his hand, he held a wooden staff with a thick, spiraled top, and dark auras emanated from his presence. Deadly crows with red eyes circled around him, creating an aura of foreboding.

The man glared furiously at Kenjiro and his group and demanded, "Return the horn! Now!!"A chill ran through Kenjiro's body, but he maintained his composure. "What if we say no? Will you kill us?" he responded.

The man's voice was cold and menacing. "It carries a curse. It was my property. Return it at once."

Kenjiro retorted, "We obtained it by raiding the outpost of Sector 3. Why didn't you take it from there? Answer me!"

"I don't feel the need to answer you! Return it at once or else," the man insisted.Kenjiro, refusing to back down, said firmly, "No!"

With a swift motion, the mysterious man raised his staff and struck the ground. Dark auras surged forth, striking Kenjiro and his team. The force of the attack was overwhelming, and almost every member of the group fainted, leaving only Kenjiro, Yurei, Jiro, and Raiden conscious, though barely able to stand.

The man appeared in front of Kenjiro in an instant, and with two fingers, he tapped Kenjiro's forehead. The impact rendered Kenjiro unconscious, and a wave of dark energy radiated outward, knocking out Yurei, Jiro, and Raiden as well. The mysterious man took the Broken Horn and vanished into the shadows.

Meanwhile, back at the samurai academy, Ryuji was discussing demon curse powers with his teammates Haruto, Akira, Yumi, Takeshi, Hana, and Sora. They shared their progress and demonstrated their abilities. Haruto's demon, Raijin, granted him control over thunder, allowing him to summon powerful lightning strikes. Akira, cursed by Arakaza, could manipulate winds, creating deadly gusts and whirlwinds. Yumi, empowered by Kagutsuchi, wielded the flames of an ancient volcano, generating intense heat and fire. Takeshi, with the power of Tsukiyomi, controlled the shadows, moving through them and striking from the darkness. Hana, blessed by Fujin, could command the earth, summoning vines and roots to ensnare her enemies. Sora, the latest addition, possessed the power of Seiryu, the Azure Serpent, which allowed him to manipulate water and create devastating torrents.

Their discussion was interrupted by the arrival of Master Kenshin. He gathered the group and addressed them with urgency. "We have received an urgent mission. We are to assist one of Sector 2's outposts in the north, located in Rurika City. The outpost is under threat from a Kurei-Kage raid. We must reach there quickly."

Ryuji and his teammates prepared for the journey, understanding the importance of this mission. Master Kenshin called upon a high-ranking demon named Kaijin, known for summoning a giant, deadly frog. Kaijin was a formidable demon with the ability to manipulate the elements of the swamp. He could control the fog, creating illusions and disorienting enemies. His summoning of the deadly frog was one of his most fearsome abilities, as the creature could traverse great distances with its massive leaps and was almost impervious to attacks.

As the giant frog appeared, its slimy, dark green skin glistening in the dim light, the team mounted the creature and set off towards Rurika City. The enormous creature could leap great distances, allowing them to cover the ground swiftly.

As they traveled, Ryuji's thoughts turned to the recent battles and the weight of their new powers. The mission ahead was not just about protecting an outpost; it was a chance for revenge against the Kurei-Kage for the devastation they had wrought upon the samurai academy.

The desert landscape of Rurika City loomed ahead, and the team steeled themselves for the battles to come. The memories of their fallen comrades and the weight of their new powers fueled their resolve. They knew that this mission was not just about duty but also about proving their worth as newly ascended ronin and avenging the honor of their academy. As they approached the city, the tension in the air was palpable. The Kurei-Kage forces were already in motion, and the samurai could see the signs of impending conflict. With their demon curses ready and their spirits high, Ryuji and his teammates prepared for the showdown that awaited them in the heart of the desert.

Back in the darkened forest, the unconscious bodies of Kenjiro and his team lay scattered. The mysterious man examined the Broken Horn, his red eyes narrowing as he studied its surface. "This is only the beginning," he muttered to himself before disappearing into the shadows once more, leaving the Kurei-Kage team defeated and vulnerable.
