Chapter 8:
Synthetic Love
"What... are you? “The words escaped my lips, trembling with fear yet
Camela stood there with no emotion at all
"What are you really?..." I stammered, still reeling in shock.
Camela stood there, her smile eerily sweet, her expression void of any pain.
"I could barely move...."she whispered"But we did it, Gerald" her voice filled with a calm satisfaction.
The car behind her back, now crumpled and destroyed
“We stopped the car" she added, a note of pride lacing her words.
As she fall off her knee kneeling down as she stared at the ground like a lifeless doll
I just stood there, staring at the seemingly perfect creation before me.
Her skin mimicked that of a living, breathing human, her hair fell seamlessly across her shoulders, and her features exuded perfection. Every detail, every aspect, was designed with such precision, a creation beyond imagination - perfect in every way.
Disgust and anger washed over me as I stared at the robotic figure before me, realizing the deception of beauty in front of me
"You won't get away with this! I won't hesitate to expose you. “My mind reeled with disbelief. This couldn't be Camela.
Is it really....A robot, I clenched my fists, as I felt the need to expose this fake to the world
"I won't let a robot deceive anyone else”
Camela didn't say anything and didn’t respond either
It could be due to the impact she had by turning off the self-driving car
"It make sense “I whispered as I recalled Camela's actions - accepting me, the heartfelt gift, and her considerate gestures.
There were moments where she seemed eerily human. Are those all nothing but a lie struck me.
Time was ticking, and I have to do something
Reporters would flock here soon, eager to cover the incident regarding the out of control car
In that case they might also caught us here if I don’t act fast
Then suddenly, my legs started to move on their own, carrying me towards Camella
My mind raced with conflicting thoughts; this felt wrong, but my body continued unfailingly, reaching Camela. Instinctively, my arms wrapped around her, lifting her in a bridal carry,
The sound of an approaching car met my ears, and I saw Glen's car stopping, his expression tinged with shock at the sight before him. He leaped out, his face stricken with worry and concern. Hastily, he opened the back passenger door, offering assistance to place Camela inside the car.
“Get inside the car." He commanded
I tried to protest, my voice strained. "I'm not going anywhere," I resisted, my mind still whirling with shock and disbelief.
But before I could continue, Glenn forcefully kicked me inside the car
The situation had taken a turn for the worse as we fled the scene. I was trapped inside with Glen, and the robot.
My mind filled with confusion and fear, my heart pounding in my chest.
"You owe me an explanation! What is that thing?" I confronted him
As the car sped away, a woman's voice from the backseat suddenly spoke up "Thank you for looking after my daughter" her tone filled with gratitude
"You call that thing your daughter? Creepy!" I blurted out and glen whos busy ddriving glared at me
“Sorry I was out of the line “I said as I look away
“Please don’t mind him lady Catherine “glen whispered
“This must be Camela's mother “I thought as I stared at her
She bore a striking resemblance to Camela herself. Her features were a reflection of Camela's beauty, her striking resemblance unmistakable. Soft, wavy locks framed her face, while her eyes held the same intense gaze as her daughter's. I watch as he took out various tools, her hands moving with precision as she worked on Camela.
The sounds of metal clinking against metal filled the silence, the atmosphere growing heavier with each passing moment. Slowly, the woman seemed to be "fixing" Camella, the robotic parts exposed as she worked on
As she worked on Camella, catherine spoke gently
”she is robot, but I love her deeply, just as much as Camela" she added.
"Nora 2A is also my daughter, after all"
"After Camela's rehearsal, she collapsed due to an unidentified poison added to her drink “glen explained
"We don't know when she'll wake up, but we have to keep this under wraps" he continued, his voice filled with urgency.
"There's a chance someone is trying to assassinate her,"
"Camela has many enemies" Camelas mother explained, her words tinged with a mix of fear “if her enemies realize she's still alive, they may double their efforts. We cannot risk exposing her
My frustration and confusion reached a peak,. "And your solution is to use a robot that looks exactly like her as a substitute instead of reporting it to the police?" I exclaimed, my voice filled with disbelief.
"This doesn't make sense! Why not involve the police, or at least inform someone responsible for her safety?"
"Exposing it to the police won't accomplish anything," she pleaded. "It could be someone powerful, and if we reveal her disappearance, she could lose everything. Knowing she's still alive will only encourage them in their next attempt."
I glanced at Camela, or rather the robot impersonating her, lying motionless on the car seat
“so it was that robot all along ?”
Her mother beside her, Tools whirred and buzzed as she worked, her hands moving skillfully, It was an eerie sight, with sparks occasionally flying and a constant hum of mechanics filling the car.
There was awkward silence
As the truth slowly unfolded, the pieces in my mind started to click together .It explained everything. The dramatic change in Camela's behavior, and the eerie resemblance to a lifeless doll now made sense.
Glen, still focused on the road, finally broke the silence. He took a deep breath and spoke, "I am aware of your previous job and I know what you're capable of" The reality crashed down on me.
Glen's eyes remained fixed on the road as he continued speaking, "Since you already know too much, I can't let you go so easily so here's an offer" he said
"I'll increase your salary if you keep quiet." He seemed determined to keep me close, unwilling to let me walk away from this situation.
"Hey, why do I have to stay in this job? I quit! “I. Protested “I can't let you do that. I have to keep my eye on you “Glen state firmly
